Target: Camp Emerson Director Sue Lein
Goal: Refund all fees to family of girl banned from camp for kissing a boy
Recently, a 15-year-old girl was kicked out of her summer camp because she shared a kiss with a boy in the camp. Camp Emerson, the Massachusetts summer camp the girl attended, did not have a policy against kissing. The girl, whose name was not given, was told she was at fault even though male counselors had encouraged the boy to kiss her. She was humiliated and banned from the camp, not even allowed to say goodbye to her friends, because of an innocent kiss between teenagers.
The two teenagers had met each other at the camp, and counselors recognized that the two had feelings for each other. The male counselors encouraged the boy to kiss the girl, and reportedly high-fived him after the incident. However, this girl faced a much harsher reaction to the kiss. She was scolded by Sue Lein, the camp director, and called a slut for one kiss. The girl was escorted out of camp by a uniformed police officer, and was not allowed to say goodbye to friends or counselors. Her family was not refunded any of the money for the camp, despite the girl’s unfair expulsion.
The family is currently suing Camp Emerson for the girl’s expulsion and humiliation. In the lawsuit, they say that to this young girl, the summer romance made her ‘feel confident and beautiful for the very first time in her life.’ Most teenagers would dream of a summer romance, but none would imagine the romance ending with humiliation at the hands of camp officials. This 15-year-old girl is at an age when many teenagers begin dating or kissing. The camp should have supported her as she experienced a young romance, but instead they humiliated her for acting like a normal teenage girl. This girl deserves an apology, and the money spent on the camp which treated her with contempt should be refunded.

PETITION LETTER:
Dear Ms. Lein,
Recently, you expelled a 15-year-old girl from Camp Emerson because you claimed she was indulging in sexually provocative behavior. This behavior was simply a kiss with a teenage boy. The boy had been encouraged by male counselors at the camp to kiss the girl, and was rewarded with high-fives. The girl, on the other hand, was humiliated as you called her a slut and kicked her out of the camp. She was forced to face further public humiliation as she was escorted out of the camp by a uniformed police officer.
I ask you to apologize to this girl’s family and refund the money spent on the camp. This girl did nothing wrong. She only pursued a summer romance that is the fantasy of most teenage girls. Nothing she did warranted the treatment she received. She should not have been banned from the camp, and she definitely should not have been humiliated as she was. Apologize and refund the family immediately.
Sincerely,
