Manchester City vs Chelsea – Prediction

Manchester City to win 1-0, The games between these two Premier League heavyweights usually are low scoring affairs. I don’t expect Mourinho to divert from his usual game plan against the big teams of sitting back and breaking on the counter especially since they conceded two at home against Swansea last week.

It might be a single moment of brilliance that’ll decide the game and don’t surprised if it comes from a certain Sergio Aguero who might start after making an appearance from the bench against Baggies on Monday.

Game on: Sunday 16/08/2015

Betting Tips

Odds for a Manchester City win is at 2.15, which is a really good bet for you to consider. Odds for a draw is at 3.55 and that for a Chelsea win is at 3.80

As mentioned before the clash between these two are usually low scoring affairs so the safest bet for the game is Under 2.5 at odds of 1.86.

Sergio Aguero is favorite pick for player of the season and the odds of him being the first goalscorer is at 5.5 and is a bet i suggest you guys should be making.

Manchester City

Manchester City come into this game on the back of a 3-0 away win against West Brom on Monday. It was a statement of intent on what they aim to achieve this season and answer to anyone who had written them off from being title contenders.

Although it was just one game there was plenty to suggest City are on the right-track. Vincent Kompany seems to be getting back to his best and so does Yaya Toure who scored the second of the three goals. New acquisition Raheem Sterling looked threatening but failed to score two clear cut chances indicating that he is far from being a complete player.

Next up they face fellow title contenders Chelsea a team  whom they’ve failed to beat in league in their last four attempts. City though are on a 7 game winning streak at home keeping a clean sheet in 6 of those.

Toure who was substituted late on against the Baggies after pick up a groin injury has recovered and is fit to start on Sunday. Gael Clichy who had been on the sidelines with a groin injury is fit again and could start game however the duo of Fabian Delph and Fernando are unlikely to feature.

Chelsea

Chelsea were handed a shock on their opening game of the season as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Swansea at Stamford Bridge despite taking the lead twice. Chelsea were the second best team for most of the game and to be honest were lucky to hold onto a point after Courtouis saw red early in the second half.

City would have been the last team Chelsea would have wanted to face at this point but on Sunday they face the Citizens at the Etihad with the risk of falling five points behind their opponents if they end up losing the game.

Chelsea seems to still be on vacation mode and have now failed to win any of their last six games (including pre-season games) in normal time which includes a 1-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

Chelsea have lost 5 and won just one of their last 7 games at the Etihad Stadium but the solo win and draw came in the last two seasons. If Chelsea are to lose this game then it’ll be the first time since 1998 that they fail to win atleast one of their opening two league games of the season. Chelsea have kept only one clean sheet in their last four games in the league.

Asmir Begovic is set to make his Premier League debut for the Blues as Courtouis serves his one game suspension. Oscar who had opened the scoring against the Swans last week will likely miss the game on Sunday after picking up a injury in training.

Past Meeting

The last time these two teams met at the Etihad Stadium the game ended in a 1-1 draw with Schurrle opening the scoring for Chelsea in the second half after Pablo Zabaleta got send off for City.

However in what would be one of the most dramatic moments of the season Chelsea legend Frank Lampard came off the bench for City and scored in the 85th minute thus earning a point for the Citizens.

The reverse fixture also ended in a 1-1 draw with Loic Remy and David Silva scoring for their respective teams.

Where they are in the table

2nd – Manchester City – 1 game – 3 points – (+ 3 GD)

8th – Chelsea – 1 game – 1 point – (0 GD)
