A few weeks ago, I got the chance to spend a weekend in San Francisco.  If you follow me on Instagram then you’ve seen some of the photos.  I love weekend getaways.  You get a chance to relax, recharge your batteries and see a new city.  San Francisco is such a large and diverse city that it takes many trips so see everything.  I’ve been to the city before but this was the first time I stayed in the Union Square area.  I ended up staying close to the hotel as I was ‘lucky’ enough to visit during a major storm.  Apparently SF was in the middle of a severe drought and it hadn’t rained for months, until I showed up.  It poured for 3 days straight and I felt like a drowned mess most of the time, hence no outfit photos.  Also, just as I was leaving the sun came out.  Figures.

Luckily there was a Uniqlo within a block of the hotel.  I’ve heard about Uniqlo opening up stores in the US a few years ago but never had the chance to check it out for myself.  I spent a few hours at the store and ended up with a complete outfit.  The store is a cross between The Gap and American Apparel. They had a lot of basics and nothing too trendy but seemingly well-made. One of the most exciting parts of the shopping experience was that I bought a pair of pants and they hemmed them for free.  FREE.

During one of the breaks in the weather we hiked on over to Chinatown.  It was soon after the Chinese New Year so there were still red lanterns in the street.  It looked like a movie set it was so beautiful.

The best meal of the weekend was at Maykadeh Persian Cuisine in North Beach.  I tried the Breast Kebab, Lamb Tongue, and Brain.  I loved them all.  The brain was actually my favorite but I would recommend all of them.  I was with friends and everyone really enjoyed their meal and most people enjoyed the weird stuff (tongue and brain).

Have you ever been to San Francisco?  What are your favorite parts of the city?
