On November 1st, I wrote about the importance of Thinking Small in November and shopping through local businesses and Direct Sellers to have a greater impact in your own community.
All month long, I will be spotlighting Direct Sellers and the impact that their businesses have on the community. I hope it will inspire you to Shop Direct.
Today, I want you to meet Ginny Hannan through this Shop Direct Spotlight. Ginny is with Norwex and has been in business for one-and-a-half years. When I asked Ginny what drew her to her company (or Direct Sales in general), she said,
My oldest daughter is on the autism spectrum and we always check the ingredients in her food. However, when I attended a friend’s Norwex party, I realized I never checked the ingredients in the cleaners I used on my floors, counters, and windows. I knew things needed to be change immediately, and I wanted everything! Because of Norwex, I now have a healthier environment for not only my oldest daughter, but our entire family. I also save so much time because cleaning with water and a cloth is so much faster.
As she mentioned above, Ginny is a mom, and like many people in our industry, she is balancing her life between her Norwex business, her hobbies and interests, and her family, about which she says,
I have an amazingly supportive husband, Tim, who is my best friend and love of my life. My two beautiful daughters are Katie – 6 and Rosa – 4. We adopted them nearly 4 years ago from Colombia. Katie is my helper. She can pinpoint someone’s needs and takes care of it before we even know it is a need! Rosa loves to perform and is my social butterfly. We also have a spunky 11 year old furry daughter, our shih tzu named Mo, who isn’t a big fan of the little humans we brought home.
Being a home-based business owner can change your life, and in turn help you changes others’ lives, too. Those changes can come through tangible rewards, like money and incentive prizes, and they can also come in intangibles ways, too, like self-fulfillment, pride, and having a greater reach.
I asked Ginny what she thought the biggest impact was to her family so far, and she replied,
Of course, it has an enormous impact on our health, but it has also made a way for us to have more fun money to spend. We have also chosen to use a portion of the profits to sponsor several children through Compassion. It is such an incredible way to change the lives of my customers and children in other areas of the world. WOW! A business that provides a healthier household, income, and the ability to be philanthropic, sounds like Ginny has found something very valuable for her and her family.
As with any business, the income a Direct Salesperson earns in any company will vary from person to person. Ginny is excited about the fact that she was able to not only start for free, but that she also continues to earn cash and rewards based on her efforts. She shared the following with me when I asked about her income,
I am incredibly blessed to earn 35% of my sales. I started up my company for free because Norwex offers new consultants the chance to earn their starter kit (which includes the incredible Norwex mop!) for free if they sell only 2000 dollars in the first 90 days. During the first couple of months, there are also challenges to sell and recruit that will help the new consultants earn 100s of dollars of more free product, all while earning CASH to use however I would like!
So, how does Ginny’s home business have a greater effect on her community? She loves that her income affords her the ability to shop from other Direct Salespeople, she also pays for dance lessons for her daughter, goes out for “fun nights” with her friends at local restaurants, attend conferences, and purchase items for the needy.
Can you see what’s happening here? More money is staying in the local community and local families are benefiting all because people decide to shop with Ginny who turns around and supports local businesses!
Take that a few steps further and imagine THOSE local business owners then shopping local. The dance instructor and restaurant owners most likely shop at local grocery stores, get their hair done at local salons, and they may even have children in other classes that are taught by local small-business owners!
Plus, the fact that Ginny helps support those in need in her community means that the money you’ve spent with her is having a very broad reach.
Ginny knows that choosing how you shop and who you shop with is important. She said,
At times, it may feel like you are being invited to an overwhelming number of parties for direct sales companies. However, when we attend those parties, we are supporting our own. Women have the opportunity to make extra money, make a difference in their communities, and get outside of the home for some much-need adult time by selling for these incredible companies. I encourage you to attend the presentations these women give and to support them.
As a few last thoughts about her business, Ginny shared this,
Norwex is truly a company that cares about its consultants, communities, and the environment. I love working for a company that wants to make a difference. We are in the business of changing lives. In fact, our mission statement is to improve the quality of life by radically reducing the use of chemicals in our homes. You can be a part of that, too, by hosting a party, making a purchase or joining my team. Hostesses have the opportunity to earn several hundred dollars in free product to start their lifestyle change. And of course, being a consultant, you can earn even more for free while making a huge difference in the lives of those in your community. It is rewarding and the relationships you make through this experience are worth every minute you spend sharing the products with others.
