Food and Xmas gifts for charity in Dunkeld

Dunkeld’s Atholl Arms Hotel is holding a charity day on Sunday 30 November to raise funds for Marie Curie nurses, the British Heart Foundation and a dog shelter in Romania.

The hotel’s award-winning chefs will lay on afternoon teas, and cakes and other home baking will be on sale. Its RiverView restaurant overlooking the River Tay, voted
best for informal dining in Central Scotland in the 2014 Scottish Hotel Awards, will be serving special lunches and dinners. Booking is recommended.

The event, starting at 12 noon, will provide opportunities to buy unusual and distinctive Christmas gifts. These will include jewellery, Perthshire soaps and candles, cards, prints by Ed Fielding Photography, and felted wearables such as scarves, gloves, hats, wrist warmers and cowls.

Dunblane artist Sarah McSpoff will be displaying her one-of-a kind farm animal paintings.

Tickets have gone on sale for the biggest Hogmanay street party in Glasgow as Ashton Lane gets ready to bring in the bells at its annual New Year street party.
For £25 a ticket, revellers (strictly over 18s only) can spend the night under the Lane’s twinkling canopy of fairy lights enjoying live entertainment, DJs, street performers and hopping around their favourite bars and restaurants soaking up the magical party atmosphere.

Watch and Wolf

Watch your favourite film and enjoy the food and drinks you see on screen? Edinburgh’s own Jelly and Gin have come up with an event where you can do just that with Watch and Wolf a new multi-sensory cinema experience.

On arrival guests will receive a box which holds numbered packages of bite-sized food and cocktails. After a short introduction, the film begins, during which the food-matched moments are signalled by Mr Wolf.

Watch and Wolf launches in December 2014 at the National Gallery of Scotland in the Hawthornden Lecture Theatre. The films include the retro classic Gremlins and perrenially popular Elf and The Wizard of Oz.

Butchershop Bar & Grill’s Amie Duncan wins Virgin Rising Star of The Year Award

Amie Duncan from The Butchershop Bar & Grill steakhouse in Glasgow won the Virgin Rising Star of The Year Award at the UK Restaurant Manager of The Year competition this month in London. She was the only Scottish finalist to be recognised as both a finalist and a winner. Well done Amie!

Summerhall Christmas Market returns the second weekend of December (Sunday 14) with a bumper crop of traders from across Edinburgh and beyond. The market will take over the first floor of the old Veterinary College with over fifty traders selling locally sourced and fairtrade food, drink, crafts and gift ideas. Traders range from familiar Edinburgh companies to artists and makers who are based in studio spaces, or residents at Summerhall.

Pop down to shop a huge range of bespoke furniture, skincare, craft beer, gin, soft furnishings, art prints, knitwear, vintage clothes, organic chocolate, textiles, jewellery, handicrafts, baby clothes and toys, stationary – you name it – it’ll be there as part of the event with a low carbon footprint but very high quality local fayre.

Summerhall based community choir the Summerhall Singers will be on hand with carols and Christmas songs over lunchtime and to warm those cockles the Gluhwein will be flowing.

New to Summerhall – throughout December the arts hub will be selling beautiful ethically sourced Christmas trees in the courtyard. The Christmas tree forest will be open all day on Sunday 14.

Alongside the market will be the familiar blend of drop-in activities for families and kids in the Yellow Room and fresh yummy food served up at the Royal Dick Pub. Street food vendors Jones and Sons BBQ, Harajuku Kitchen, The Big Blu and Ninja Buns will take over the courtyard – alongside a couple of hand warming braziers.
