Today marks the second annual #GivingTuesday, created to kick off the giving season and serve  as a counter-narrative to the shopping events that precede it: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The day is focused on inspiring charitable activities that support non-profit organizations, and trending all day on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Last year, New York’s 92nd Street Y got the ball rolling, but was soon joined by supporters in The United Nations Foundation. Now, there are countless organizations and individuals involved.

Want to get participate in #GivingTuesday? The group is encouraging everyone to take to social media outlets to share your good deeds.

Here is our list of food pantries in Westchester, Putnum and Rockland. Or click here for more information on #GivingTuesday, including other ways to donate, volunteer and help out with some of our local nonprofits.
