When it comes a lot of household items, I’m not a brand snob.  I will purchase store-brands left and right in order to shave pennies from our receipts.  But there are THREE items on which I refuse to skimp: toilet paper, cotton swabs, and dishwasher detergent.  And when it comes to that dishwasher detergent, I’m a Cascade girl

Maybe it’s because Cascade was what my Mother and Grandmother used; that dark green box of powder was a mainstay under the kitchen sink, coming out after every meal to be used against a dishwasher of dirty dishes.  When I became a grown-up girl and had my own little kitchen (and my Grandmother’s vintage oatmeal dishes and dime-store china in my cabinets), I followed in their footsteps and purchased Cascade.

Now that I’ve moved beyond just family meal preparation and have entered the world of food photography, I don’t just need my dishes clean … they need to be sparkling.  There is nothing worse than pulling out dishes you need for a shot and discovering it has streaks or opaque spots on it.  Instead of being able to immediately plate and shoot, I have to waste minutes polishing away the spots.

Infuriating.

Yep, even with my old detergent mainstay, I’d still see spots and streaks occasionally, so when I was asked to try a new version of Cascade — Cascade Platinum — I knew that I would be getting clean dishes (that’s a given with Cascade) but I didn’t expect “sparkling” results.  After all, I live in an area where the water is just apt to leaving behind streaks or spots.

I. Was. Wrong.

Other than a few scratches from over 50 years of use, my Grandmother’s oatmeal glass came out of the dishwasher crystal-clear.  No soap residue or water streaks.  Just clear, beautifully cut glass.

This Mama is in love.

{About Cascade Platinum}

What makes the Cascade Platinum Pacs so much more powerful than the other Basic and Complete versions of Cascade?

Here’s where it gets all scientific-y and stuff.

Folks, there are enzymes… powerful enzymes in the triple-action formula of Cascade Platinum that are just better at cleaning tough food.

Then, there is a unique liquid-top dual surfactant system.  It’s job?  To deliver exceptional shine to your dishes AND help keep the interior of your dishwasher sparkling.

(fact: before using Cascade Platinum, I had no idea that one could clean the inside of a dishwasher. Just think — all those years I wasted … missing out on a sparkling dishwasher.  Sigh)

Finally, a specially designed chelant and polymer system helps prevent hard-water film build-up on dishes, glasses and even those interior walls of the dishwasher.  The chelant is designed to fight the Calcium in hard-water and food, helping to deliver virtually film-free dishes wash after wash.

{Thinking About Food Presentation}

Have you noticed there are a LOT of food photos on Facebook and Instagram?  It’s not just food bloggers and recipe developers; EVERYONE is sharing pictures of desserts, amazing main dishes and pretty drinks.  The phrase “you eat with their eyes” has never been more true than in today’s digital age.  Top Chef judge and editor of Food+Wine magazine, Gail Simmons, has joined with Cascade to discuss why presentation is just as important as preparation.

From prep to plating: It’s more than just a great-tasting recipe, but also perfect presentation. Sparkling dishes, shining flat ware and spot-free glasses truly let you put your best food forward with culinary creations that pop!

Gail recommends impressing with a Platinum Presentation: “The easiest recipes pop with unexpected, gourmet presentations.  Drizzle bright sauces on sparkling white plates or layer desserts in crystal-clean glassware. Keep your presentation sparkling with Cascade Platinum, which keeps dishes perfect for anytime entertaining and impromptu guests.”
