Arizona Cardinals

Probable:

TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring), S Chris Clemons (groin)

Questionable:

WR Michael Floyd (hand)
Handcuff: John Brown/Jaron Brown
Fantasy Impact: Obviously any injury to a WR’s hand is very concerning. If John Brown is available, add him and play him every week regardless of Floyd’s status. Jaron would play in the slot in Floyd’s absence and would likely receive limited targets. Jaron would have little immediate value.

TE Troy Niklas (hamstring)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: None

Doubtful:

Inactive:

DT Corey Peters (IR) (achilles)
Handcuff: Rodney Gunter
Fantasy Impact: Missing the entire season at age 27 will hurt Peters’ long term value as well. Gunter will start in his rookie year at nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. A limited ceiling and opportunity should deter most IDP owners, but he is a rookie starter for a good defense.

DE Zac Wagenmann (IR) (foot)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: None

LB Daryl Washington (susp)
Handcuff: Sean Weatherspoon/Kevin Minter
Fantasy Impact: When he plays Washington produces at a LB2/3 level. After missing all of 2014 because of suspension, and will likely be suspended again (personal conduct) if/when he is reinstated. Its time to move on if you haven’t already.

Atlanta Falcons

Probable:

S William Moore (calf), CB Desmond Trufant (shoulder)

Questionable:

RB Devonte Freeman (hamstring)
Handcuff: Tevin Coleman
Fantasy Impact: Freeman is expected to play week 1 but may be limited. Saying his hamstring is “90%” healed. I am about the same amount sure that owners should not start him this week. If Freeman is limited expect Coleman to get the bulk of the carries. The more carries Coleman gets the more likely he is to break a 40 yard TD run. A statistic he AVERAGED his senior year in college. Ideally the Falcons would have a clear view of how they are going to use their backs, but injuries to both this preseason limited their ability to evaluate. Freeman will likely play the scat back role when healthy, making Coleman the RB to own early on.

CB Dezmen Southward (knee)
Handcuff: Phillip Adams
Fantasy Impact: As the Falcons 4th CB, Southward is not expected to see much playing time. His handcuff Adams would see even less. If you have Dezmen, it would be wise to look elsewhere for help.

TE Jacob Tamme (back)
Handcuff: Levine Toilolo
Fantasy Impact: Tamme offers sneaky sleeper potential this year. If in the lineup he will get most of the TE reps. With White another year older and already ailing, Tamme could be as high as the number two target at times. He is a match-up based play best used when White is hurt. Toilolo is too TD dependent and should be avoided.

WR Roddy White (Elbow)
Handcuff: Leonard Hankerson
Fantasy Impact: Roddy White is another year older but his talent remains intact. When healthy he produces at a WR2 level. Health, however, is his issue. Entering the season following elbow surgery, White is a high risk/reward player. If you own him, GO GET HANKERSON! He offers great sleeper potential. He is a true plug and play.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

LB Brooks Reed (IR) (groin)
Handcuff: Kroy Biermann/O’Brien Schofield
Fantasy Impact: Placed on IR and designated to return, Reed was expected to start at SLB and contribute heavily on special teams. His absence opens the door for either veteran Biermann or newly aquired Schofield. The later will only be used in rushing situations, making Biermann the better option. This situation has time share written all over it. Owners should look elsewhere.

Baltimore Ravens

Probable:

DT Lawrence Guy (knee), WR Michael Campanaro (leg), DT Timmy Jernigan (knee), S Kendrick Lewis (leg), CB Rashaan Melvin (hamstring), CB Jimmy Smith (foot), TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed)

Questionable:

S Terrence Brooks (knee)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: None

CB Lardarius Webb (hamstring)
Handcuff: Kyle Arrington
Fantasy Impact: In leagues that give points for return yards Webb offers the potential for solid production from the CB slot. Arrington would get a bump in production but would not produce the same results. If Webb cannot go, owners can likely find better options than Arrington.

Doubtful:

WR Breshad Perriman (knee)
Handcuff: Marlon Brown
Fantasy Impact: The Ravens have indicated Perriman may miss the first game. Without having played a single NFL game Perriman’s upside is enormous. Owners should be patient. In the past Marlon Brown has been very hit or miss when given the opportunity. This inconsistency would continue.

RB Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee)
Handcuff: Javorius Allen
Fantasy Impact: Taliaferro cannot afford to lose snaps. Allen, who has been breathing down his neck all preseason, offers a running style that compliments lead back Forsett. Owners need to scoop up Allen as a capable handcuff to both Forsett and Taliaferro.

Inactive:

S Matt Elam (IR) (bicep)
Handcuff: Will Hill/Kendrick Lewis
Fantasy Impact: Elam may return at some point this season. Until then both Hill and Lewis are capable replacements that offer similar production potential.

TE Dennis Pita (IR) (hip)
Handcuff: Crockett Gillmore/Maxx Williams
Fantasy Impact: Pita was a TE1 when healthy. Its possible his career is over. Despite being behind Gillmore on the depth chart, Williams offers much more upside when it comes to fantasy. If owners have room, Williams is a nice stash that will produce sooner than later. In the meantime, look elsewhere for a starter.

DE Brent Urban (IR) (bicep)
Handcuff: Lawrence Guy
Fantasy Impact: Urban is designated to return. He was expected to start but will likely remain 3rd on the depth chart even when healthy. Look elsewhere for production.

Buffalo Bills

Probable:

CB Ron Brooks (foot), CB Stephon Gilmore (shoulder), RB Bryce Brown (hamstring), RB Anthony Dixon (calf), RB Karlos Williams (undisclosed), WR Percy Harvin (hip), WR Chris Hogan (knee), WR Robert Woods (hip)

Questionable:

WR Marquise Goodwin (ribs)
Handcuff: Marcus Easley
Fantasy Impact: Both Goodwin and Easley are most effective on special teams. Neither is an advisable fantasy play. At 24 years old, and possessing “gold medal” winning speed, Goodwin offers a small amount of dynasty potential. But it wont happen while he is in Buffalo.

RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring)
Handcuff: Karlos Williams/Bryce Brown
Fantasy Impact: Despite reports that McCoy “vows” he will play week 1, his injury is soft tissue and may force him to miss the Bills first game. If that were to happen Buffalo would employ a committee approach. Williams offers the most upside and has been impressive in camp. He is obviously a favorite of the coaching staff. He would be worth a waiver add for McCoy owners who would need to take a wait and see approach. His relevance would be dependent on whether he or Anthony Dixon take the goal line carries. Monitor closely.

LB Tony Steward (knee)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Due to injuries to the LB position, Steward has gained fantasy relevance. As the handcuff to Nigel Bradham, he will only become an option in the event of an injury.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

DT Marcell Dareus (susp) (leg)
Handcuff: Corbin Bryant
Fantasy Impact: Dareus will miss the first game of the season for violating the substance abuse policy. He may be forced to miss more because of his leg injury. Bryant will fill in for Dareus and all of the first team D-lineman. He will be the beneficiary of single coverage and a member of a star powered D-line. Pick him up if you own Buffalo DE’s or DT’s.

CB Leodis McKelvin (IR) (ankle)

Handcuff: Ronald Darby
Fantasy Impact: Designated to return, McKelvin was a DB1 last year. It would be naive to believe rookie CB Darby would perform at the same level. Despite his enormous talent, Darby does not factor in on special teams. He may not be a DB1 but DB2 production is not out of the question. He is the starter opposite Gilmore.

DE Jarius Wynn (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: Corbin Bryant
Fantasy Impact: Wynn was previously the handcuff to the stars in Buffalo. His injury opens the door for Bryant. Bryant is worth a stash for owners who have Buffalo DL’s.

Carolina Panthers

Probable:

CB Josh Norman (Concussion), DT Kawann Short (back), CB Charles Tillman (concussion)

Questionable:

WR Jerricho Cotchery (groin)
Handcuff: Kevin Norwood
Fantasy Impact: Cotchery should see significant playing time this season due to Kelvin Benjamin being lost for the season. Unfortunately he is 4th on a depth chart that includes young, talented, hungry receivers. One such WR is also behind him. I would expect Cotchery’s relevance to decrease as the season progresses, eventually being overtaken by Norwood. Both however, offer little upside. Look elsewhere.

DE Charles Johnson (calf)
Handcuff: Mario Addison
Fantasy Impact: Johnson is a veteran DE that has missed the entire preseason. He will struggle early on. Once at full strength and healthy he provides good production and is worth playing. The question will be when to do so. Addison is a journeyman that provides minimal relief. Owners would be wise to find someone else.

LB Shaq Thompson (hamstring)
Handcuff: A.J. Klein
Fantasy Impact: Its hard not to get excited about Shaq Thompson. His athleticism and potential is among the best in a strong ’15 draft class. Owners are encouraged to add him if he is available. Having said that, Thompson is probably best left out of lineups for the early part of the season. He will only be a 2 down back early on and will play a position, in Carolina, that does not warrant fantasy numbers. If he cannot go, owners are advised to pass on Klein.

CB Teddy Williams (groin)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Williams is Bene Benwikere’s backup. He only made this list because Carolina is so depleted at CB. He is not worth a waiver acquisition.

Doubtful:

DT Star Lotulelei (foot)
Handcuff: Dwan Edwards
Fantasy Impact: Along with Kawann Short, Lotulelei forms an up and coming defensive front for the Panthers. Their stock is on the rise and they should both be owned. Edwards is not a recommended dynasty option at 34 years old, but does offer instant production for those Lotulelei owners attempting to fill a need.

Inactive:

WR Kelvin Benjamin (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: Devin Funchess/Ted Ginn Jr.
Fantasy Impact: Benjamin was an outstanding rookie last season and should be held on to in dynasty formats. Funchess is a rookie WR that profiles very similar to Kelvin. He is the leading candidate to receive the available targets. These factors indicate he is the new #1 receiver and should be played as such. Ted Ginn is a sleeper candidate. He played well in the preseason and really throughout his career when given targets. He also has special team value. Philly Brown could also factor in, but he needs to learn how to catch first.

Cincinnati Bengals

Probable:

QB Andy Dalton (neck), DE Margus Hunt (back), S George Iloka (kneecap)

Questionable:

DE Michael Johnson (knee)
Handcuff: Wallace Gilberry
Fantasy Impact: This will be Johnson’s second tour with the Bengals. I expect him to be nowhere near the fantasy producer he was the first time around. Age and competition being the main reasons why. Gilberry will take any reps Johnson misses and will likely produce with them. Gilberry will be the starter week 1 and barring injury, will be the starter week 16 as well. Go plug and play him.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

CB Darqueze Dennard (groin)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Dennard is expected to play week 1. He is most relevant as a handcuff to Jones and Hall. After standing out this preseason, and with a good amount of experience, owners should feel comfortable playing him in the event that Hall or Jones goes down.

LB Vontaze Burfict (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: Paul Dawson/Vincent Rey
Fantasy Impact: Burfict is designated to return and wont be eligible to play until week 7. When healthy, which has been rare, he is a top ten producer at the LB position. Luckily for he and his owners, he is only 24 years old and should be able to return to the field this season. Rookie Paul Dawson is expected to get the majority of reps while Burfict heals. He is an adequate handcuff at this point. If he struggles Vincent Rey has proven he can handle the workload. Both are recommended standalone replacements.

LB Sean Porter (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: Paul Dawson/Vincent Rey
Fantasy Impact: Porter was expected to be Burfict’s handcuff until he injured his knee against the Patriots in preseason. He will now be on IR for the 2015 season. Dawson will take his place and is a recommended replacement. If Dawson struggles Vincent Rey will fill in with success.

Cleveland Browns

Probable:

WR Dwayne Bowe (hamstring), WR Brian Hartline (thigh), WR Terrelle Prior (hamstring), LB Nate Orchard (back), CB Joe Haden (hamstring), S Tashaun Gipson (hamstring)

Questionable:

RB Duke Johnson (concussion)
Handcuff: Isiah Crowell
Fantasy Impact: Expected to be ready for week 1 and currently in the NFL concussion protocol, Johnson is said to have impressive burst and pass catching ability out of the backfield. Unfortunately, we would not know after he missed almost the entire preseason. Johnson’s road to relevance just got a lot easier with West being shipped to Tennessee, but until one of these backs shows superiority they offer little more than low end RB2 production. Crowell is the early favorite for carries but Johnson is not far behind.

QB Johnny Manziel (Elbow)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Manziel will be ready week 1. I typically don’t like putting backup QB’s on this list, as it is meant for fantasy relevant players only. Manziel however, is not normal. With only Josh McCown ahead of him Manziel seems destined to get an opportunity this year. He is worth stashing if you have room. If he is able to combine his athleticism with his newly found maturity level, production may not be far behind. Monitor from afar.

LB Barkevious Mingo (knee)

Handcuff: Armonty Bryant
Fantasy Impact: Mingo was one of the most promising young LB’s just two seasons ago. Blessed with the size, speed, and skill of a top flight LB, Mingo will try and reach his potential this season. If he is able to get healthy and play week one, he is someone to monitor closely. He is a boom or bust IDP option. Bryant profiles the same way, and has battled Mingo in camp.

DE Billy Winn (knee)
Handcuff: Xavier Cooper
Fantasy Impact: Winn is currently behind Starks on the depth chart indicating he would be first off the bench and hold relevance for owners. In reality, Billy will probably be passed by Xavier Cooper quickly and hold little relevance thereafter.

CB Justin Gilbert (hip)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: One of the more recent busts in the NFL, Gilbert will try and harness the starter talent he possesses and make a run at fantasy relevance. He is only to be considered in deep dynasty formats.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

WR Josh Gordon (susp)
Handcuff: Any Browns WR
Fantasy Impact: I think by now we all know the deal. If you have room, stash him. If he weren’t the only person ever addicted to marijuana, he could be a superstar! So…. on the off chance that he decides to act as mature as a 16 year old even, you will want him on your roster.

CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Rookie CB/S Ekpre-Olomu could easily be the steal of the ’15 draft when all is said and done. An explosive playmaker with ball hawking skill and run after the catch ability, he could become fantasy gold. But it wont happen until next year. If you have room for an injured S, he WILL BE  worth stashing as he wont play until ’16.

CB Charles Gaines (IR) (hamstring)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Gaines is designated to return. He is ineligible to return until week 8. He was expected to play the nickle CB position and be the handcuff for Joe Haden and K’Waun Williams. The rookie will hope to compete for this position upon his return.

Dallas Cowboys

Probable:

WR Dez Bryant (hamstring), TE Gavin Escobar (concussion), TE James Hanna (knee), DT Tyrone Crawford (back), DT Nick Hayden (Ribs), LB Anthony Hitchens (foot), S J.J. Wilcox (Neck)

Questionable:

S Jeff Heath (concussion)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Heath has had very limited experience. He is not a fantasy option at S.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

DE Greg Hardy (susp)
Handcuff: Jeremy Mincey/Randy Gregory
Fantasy Impact: Hardy has been suspended for the first four games for violating the leagues personal conduct policy. In the wake of Tom Brady’s successful appeal, Hardy has considered appealing the punishment. Regardless, fantasy owners would be wise to assume the four games. When active Hardy is a high end DL2. Mincey is a comparable option at DE while Gregory offers much more dynasty value.

LB Rolando McClain (susp)
Handcuff: Anthony Hitchens
Fantasy Impact: McClain will be suspended for the first four games of the ’15 season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. When playing he is the best defensive fantasy option on the Cowboys defense. He measures out as an LB4. At 27 years old McClain has already resurrected his carrer once. I find it doubtful he do it again. Hitchens is consistent yet mediocre replacement. Personally, I like rookie LB Damien Wilson as the future Dallas LB with the most fantasy upside.

CB Orlando Scandrick (knee)
Handcuff: Byron Jones
Fantasy Impact: Scandrick will miss all of the ’15 season. His injury opens the door for rookie 1st rounder Byron Jones. He offers big play ability with tackling upside. As a rookie he is likely to split snaps with Tyler Patmon. If he is able to grab a hold of the nickleback role, Jones may produce DB3/4 numbers in his first year. He is a recommended add for Scandrick owners.

Denver Broncos

Probable:

WR Emmanuel Sanders (hamstring), DE Malik Jackson (calf), LB Brandon Marshall (foot)

Questionable:

DE Kenny Anunike (knee)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Anunike is Shane Ray’s handcuff. He would only become relevant in the event both Ware and Ray are injured. He is expected to be ready week 1.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

TE Jeff Heuerman (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: There is a very slight chance Heuerman returns this season. He is a move TE in a friendly system, with either old or blocking TE’s ahead of him on the depth chart. He should be considered as a stash option for those with room.

DE Derek Wolfe (susp)
Handcuff: Vance Walker
Fantasy Impact: Wolfe will miss the first four games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. He is projected to start upon his return. Denver is loaded with pass rushers. Wolfe does not make enough tackles to be considered as an IDP option. Neither will his handcuff. Owners should avoid this situation regardless of status.

S T.J. Ward (susp)
Handcuff: David Bruton/Omar Boldin
Fantasy Impact: Ward has been suspended for the first game of the season for a violation of the leagues substance abuse policy. He is a strong IDP option when active. Despite a recent decline in production, Ward is the leader of a secondary that should see a bunch of action. Denver is expected to contend for a title and should be playing with a lead often. Opponents will be throwing a lot giving Ward chances to make plays and tackles. Play him with confidence upon his return. Bruton and Boldin should split reps in his absence. Avoid using either if possible.

Detroit Lions

Probable:

TE Eric Ebron (undisclosed), DE Jason Jones (undisclosed), LB DeAndre Levy (undisclosed), LB Stephen Tullock (knee)

Questionable:

RB Joique Bell (knee)
Handcuff: Ameer Abdullah/Zach Zenner
Fantasy Impact: Bell continues to state that he will be ready for week 1. His absence has made a messy fantasy situation even worse. Despite the preseason success of both Abdullah and Zenner, the Lions continue to view Bell as the early down back. For now, he is the back to play in Detroit and could produce solid  Flex numbers. He will be on a short leash. Anyone owning Bell MUST find a way to also own Abdullah. If Bell struggles, look for the rookie Abdullah to thrive in the bell cow role. Zenner produced well in the preseason, but I need to see more before recommending ownership.

DT Caraun Reid (ankle)
Handcuff: Gabe Wright
Fantasy Impact: Expected not to play until week 2. Reid is only 23 years old and struggled mightily last season. Having said that, coaches have been impressed with the improvements he made in the offseason. He has sleeper potential if he is able to get healthy and beat out Tyrunn Walker for first team reps. Keep in mind that it was the coaches confidence in Reid and Walker that allowed the Lions to let Suh and Fairley leave. Wright is not an option should Reid not play.

Doubtful:

LB Kyle Van Noy (undisclosed)
Handcuff: Josh Bynes
Fantasy Impact: Tell me if you’ve heard this before, “big time prospect expected to be a fantasy star if only he could stay healthy.” Here we have the story of Van Noy. A sack specialist in college with above average chase and tackle ability, Van Noy is supposed to be the compliment to IDP studs Tulloch and Levy. Expected to be back on the field soon, Van Noy is worth owning. But owners should keep him on a short leash. He may miss 1-3 weeks before returning. Bynes should not be considered an IDP option.

Inactive:

Green Bay Packers

Probable:

CB Casey Hayward (quad), S Micah Hyde (neck), DB Quinten Rollins (hamstring)

Questionable:

WR Randall Cobb (shoulder)
Handcuff: Davante Adams/Ty Montgomery
Fantasy Impact: Cobb is a monster with Jordy Nelson in the lineup. As the number one WR in a high powered offense Cobb is as close to a guarantee for WR1 production as it gets. Unless….. he is injured. Cobb has stated “I don’t plan on missing a game.” However, plans change. Monitor this situation closely. Adams and Montgomery will produce WR3 numbers, or better, if Cobb misses time. They need to be acquired via trade/waiver if you also own Cobb.

WR Ty Montgomery (hamstring)
Handcuff: Jeff Janis
Fantasy Impact: Following the injury to Jordy Nelson, the hot question was, Janis or Montgomery? This question is yet to be answered. Montgomery has the inside track to 3rd WR duties in Green Bay. Whoever emerges, they are most valuable as a handcuff to Cobb or Adams and in dynasty formats. Especially once James Jones is up to speed. They may have a few big games but consistency will be an issue as standalone starters. He is expected to be ready for week 1.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

WR Jordy Nelson (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: Davante Adams
Fantasy Impact: Nelson is on the season ending IR. He will not play again until 2016 when he will be 31 years old. With a strong group of young, hungry WR’s behind him, Jordy’s future is very uncertain. A lot will depend on the success of Adams, Montgomery, and Janis. He is worth a stash spot on dynasty rosters but owners need to consider the value of that spot. If you own Adams, you should feel comfortable dropping Jordy at the midseason mark. Especially if Adams performs.

DE Datone Jones (susp)
Handcuff: Josh Boyd
Fantasy Impact: Jones has been suspended for the season opener for violating the NFL substance abuse policy. Neither he nor Boyd produce enough to be fantasy relevant.

DE Letroy Guion (susp)
Handcuff: Datone Jones/Josh Boyd
Fantasy Impact: Guion is suspended for the first three games for violating the leagues personal conduct policy. He will likely start upon his return to the Packers, but will not have much fantasy relevance. Neither will his handcuffs.

Houston Texans

Probable:

Questionable:

LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee)
Handcuff: Whitney Mercilus
Fantasy Impact: Expected to be ready for week 1, Clowney has struggled to get on the field since entering the league last season. He has the potential to be devastating for opposing QB’s and a fantasy stud. The problem is, all we have seen is potential. Owners willing to roll the dice on Clowney shoud pick up Jared Crick as well. Although not Clowney’s handcuff he offers more production the Mercilus and is most likely available.

LB Akeem Dent (ankle)
Handcuff: Jeff Tarpinian
Fantasy Impact: As Dents health improves, so should his standing on the depth chart. He started 7 games last season for the Texans and produced moderate numbers. He will be ready for week 1. With the addition of McKinney however, his upside is limited. Avoid both Dent and Tarpinian.

LB Bernardrick McKinney (knee)
Handcuff: Justin Tuggle

Fantasy Impact: McKinney will be on the field week 1. Technically McKinney is below Tuggle on the depth chart. That wont last long. The rookie is expected to eventually compete with Brian Cushing for top dog honors among the Texans LB’s. A move to outside linebacker is also a possibility. Regardless, McKinney should produce Strong LB2/3 numbers once starting, with the potential of reaching stud status in years to come. Tuggle is not worth adding in his absence.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

RB Arian Foster (groin)
Handcuff: Alfred Blue
Fantasy Impact: Here we have my favorite sleeper of the year. That’s right, sleeper. At Foster’s ADP this year, he can essentially be a teams 3rd or even 4th RB, depending on ones draft strategy. Foster posted over 1500 yards and 13 TD’s in essentially 11 games. So, if you are not relying on his production at your 2nd RB position, how do you pass that up? You dont! Stash Foster and play him with confidence when healthy. He should take the field sometime in October. Blue is a serviceable handcuff for now. But monitor his usage. If Blue is not getting touches his production will fall accordingly. I prefer to go elsewhere and use Foster as a handcuff.

Indianapolis Colts

Probable:

WR Phillip Dorsett (knee), LB Sio Moore (hip), CB Darius Butler (groin), CB Vontae Davis (groin)

Questionable:

RB Vick Ballard (hamstring)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Ballard is not a factor unless the guys ahead of him suffer injuries. His timeline for return is unknown.

RB Josh Robinson (head)
Handcuff: Vick Ballard

Fantasy Impact: The 6th round pick has had a decent preseason and enters the season 2nd on the depth chart. Robinson will play his first NFL game week 1, as Gore’s backup. A role he may want to get used to.

WR T.Y. Hilton (concussion)
Handcuff: Phillip Dorsett
Fantasy Impact: Some may be surprised to see Dorsett and not Moncrief as Hilton’s handcuff. It is obvious the Colts have a plan for this situation. Dorsett possesses a very similar skill set to Hilton. Moncrief compares more closely to Andre Johnson’s skill set. They will be used accordingly. Dorsett however, has won the 3rd WR position in a high powered offense. He may have standalone value in his rookie season. Play Hilton as a WR1 and get Dorsett by any means necessary to replace Hilton, and his production, in the event he cannot go. I recommend rostering Moncrief as well, if possible.

LB Robert Mathis (achilles)
Handcuff: Jonathan Newsome
Fantasy Impact: With the recent acquisition of LB Sio Moore, the 34 year old Mathis’ playing time is in jeopardy. He last played in 2013 (suspension & injury). Although he set career highs that season, the Colts have since added much more talent at the position. Mathis may get a few sacks but his production will be limited. Newsome is not the answer. Look elsewhere.

CB Greg Toler (neck)
Handcuff: Darius Butler
Fantasy Impact: Toler will start when healthy. His value is dependent on just that, his health. Toler is yet to play a full season since joining the NFL, and is already injured to start this season. Despite being a tackle producer he cannot be trusted. I would prefer to own Butler, but would avoid the situation if possible.

DB D’Joun Smith (concussion)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: The ’15 third round pick will only become relevant in the event the players ahead of him are injured. He is worth monitoring however, due to his ability to play both CB and S.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

DT Arthur Jones (IR) (ankle)
Handcuff: David Parry
Fantasy Impact: Jones was placed on season ending IR. Parry has been named the starter at NT in his absence. Neither offers much fantasy value mostly because of their position.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Probable:

RB Toby Gerhart (abdomen), WR Allen Hurns (hip), TE Clay Harbor (ankle), CB Demetruis McCray (knee), S James Sample (arm)

Questionable:

WR Marqise Lee (hamstring)
Handcuff: Bryan Walters
Fantasy Impact: Expected to start week 1, Lee has been unable to stay healthy since entering the NFL. He is presumed to have loads of talent and upside. Currently he sits 3rd on the depth chart. This is a bit misleading however, because Rashad Greene is strictly a slot WR. Lee will now need an injury to overtake Hurns as the starter opposite Robinson. If Hurns is injured, Lee could finally show why he is so highly regarded. He is worth stashing as part of a team on the rise. Walters is not.

DT Sen’Derrick Marks (knee)
Handcuff: Michael Bennett/Ziggy Hood
Fantasy Impact: Marks will start at DT upon his return which should be early this season. Possibly for week 1. He is a respectable fantasy option combining healthy sack and tackle numbers. Bennett is a powerful rookie that will play only on passing downs. Hood will take early down work. Any time you see timeshare it is prudent to avoid for fantasy purposes.

Doubtful:

DE Andre Branch (knee)
Handcuff: Ryan Davis
Fantasy Impact: Branch and Davis offer little fantasy relevance. He is expected to miss significant time, but has been left off the PUP so the team is hoping he will be back before week 6.

Inactive:

WR Justin Blackmon (susp)
Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Until he is reinstated, Blackmon should be ignored in all formats.

TE Julius Thomas (finger)
Handcuff: Mercedes Lewis
Fantasy Impact: The Jaguars plan to institute more 2 TE sets was short lived. Thomas, who is expected to return week 5, is a TE1 option when healthy. Many analysts expect a decrease in production due to the change of scenery. I however, believe Thomas will produce comparable results. In a TE friendly system, where he may be the best weapon available, Bortles will look to target his safety net regularly. He just needs to get healthy. Lewis offers little relief in Thomas’ absence. Especially with Clay Harbor a factor for targets as well.

DE Dante Fowler Jr. (IR) (knee)
Handcuff: Jared Odrick
Fantasy Impact: The third overall pick in the ’15 draft will miss the entire season. He is a perfect stash option in dynasty leagues. Odrick offers similar production to what was expected of Fowler this season. Pick him up and bank on Fowler’s upside next year.

DE Chris Clemons (undisclosed)
Handcuff: Andre Branch
Fantasy Impact: Clemons best days are behind him. With the influx of young talent into the Jaguars D-line, Clemons and Branch have no relevance now, or in the future.

DT Ziggy Hood (IR) (foot)
Handcuff: Sen’Derrick Marks/Michael Bennett
Fantasy Impact: A late addition to IR, Hoods timeline is unavailable at this moment. His absence bodes well for the already relevant Marks.

Kansas City Chiefs

Probable:

WR Jason Avant (hip), WR Albert Wilson (shoulder), TE Travis Kelce (leg)

Questionable:

WR De’Anthony Thomas (calf)

Handcuff: Jason Avant
Fantasy Impact: Thomas’ timeline is unknown but he is trending in the wrong direction. He is questionable after being listed as probable earlier in the week. He is currently listed as 3rd on the depth chart. In his first season converting from RB to WR, Thomas is unlikely to have weekly fantasy relevance. In an offense that is run heavy by design, and with rookie WR Conley just behind him, Thomas and his big play ability is best left on the wire.

RB Charcandrick West (concussion)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: West is the handcuff for Knile Davis. Other than an occasional spell of Charles and Davis, he offers little fantasy production. He is expected to be ready week 1 but unless an injury to both occurs, as has happened before. West did show promise this preseason so if you are waiting for Knile to take over lead duties, West may be worth adding. But forecasting handcuffs years into the future is a dangerous game.

DE Rakeem Nunez-Roche (ankle)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Despite his cool name, Nunez-Roche offers little fantasy relevance unless numerous injuries occur ahead of him. The only reason (besides his name) he made this list is because of his flexibility along the D-line. With Dontari Poe out he is closer to palying time. He should be ready week 1.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

DT Dontari Poe (PUP) (back)

Handcuff: Jaye Howard
Fantasy Impact: Being placed on the PUP list, Poe isn’t expected back until week 7, if not later. The reports on his recovery have been sporadic and vary significantly. When playing, Poe is a premier DT that should be owned and started. At 25 years old he is worth be patient with in dynasty formats. Despite probable significant playing time, Howard does not get enough sacks to be a worthy roster addition even for Poe’s owners.

CB Sean Smith (susp)

Handcuff: Marcus Peters
Fantasy Impact: Sean Smith is suspended for the first 3 games of the ’15 season for violating the personal conduct policy. He is the Chiefs top CB when playing. Smith does not make enough plays or tackles to be considered in fantasy lineups. His handcuff, however, Marcus Peters is far more interesting from a fantasy perspective. Blessed with enormous talent, Peters will take Smith’s place as the teams top CB sooner rather than later. In my opinion, he is a sleeper of significant proportions, THIS SEASON. Beyond this season gets tricky. Peters will likely gain the respect of opposing QB’s as the season progresses. As we know, CB’s that have respect get limited opportunity and drift into fantasy “better in real life” land. Until then he will produce. Take advantage of his talent this season and drop him like a bad habit. His off-field issues make him a higher risk going forward as well.

Miami Dolphins

Probable:

RB LaMichael James (chest), WR Greg Jennings (elbow), DE Olivier Vernon (undisclosed), LB Koa Misi (calf), CB Zach Bowman (thigh)

Questionable:

WR DeVante Parker (foot)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Parker is expected to be ready week 1, but will likely be eased into playing time early on. A rookie who possess the skill set to be a star and fantasy stud, he is probably most valuable in dynasty formats. This year, especially coming off injury, he will share snaps with both Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings. If you dont own Landry, look away from Miami for WR help this season.

LB Chris McCain (ankle)

Handcuff: Zach Vigil
Fantasy Impact: McCain may have some fantasy value this season if he can win the starting strongside LB position. If he does the opportunity will be there for a young prospect to establish himself as a legitimate IDP option. The same can be said for Vigil. This is a situation to monitor throughout the season.

CB Jamar Taylor (quads)

Handcuff: Zach Bowman/Tony Lippett
Fantasy Impact: Taylor will likely split snaps with Will Davis throughout the year. Timeshare=no fantasy relevance. Outside of Brent Grimes, no Miami CB’s represent a strong fantasy option.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

RB Jay Ajayi (IR) (ribs)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Ajayi will not play until week 9 after being placed on short term IR. His upside offers significant value in dynasty formats. He may work himself into some kind of rotation but he is unlikely to be relevant this year.

S Louis Delmas (IR) (knee)

Handcuff: Michael Thomas
Fantasy Impact: Thomas nearly won the starting FS position last season before Delmas beat him out. Delmas went on to have a productive fantasy season. At 28 years old it may have been his last relevant season. If Thomas does not share snaps, he may produce similar results putting him on the cusp of fantasy relevance.

DE Dion Jordan (susp)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Dion Jordan has been suspended for the entire ’15 season for multiple violations of the leagues substance abuse policy. Another young talented player who chooses drugs and alcohol over a life most of us cant even dream of. Avoid Jordan in any format.

Minnesota Vikings

Probable:

TE Chase Ford (undisclosed), DE Scott Chrichton (ankle), CB Captain Munnerlyn (foot), S Antone Exum (hamstring)

Questionable:

DT Shamar Stephen (knee)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Stephen is coming off arthroscopic surgery and may be slowed to start the regular season. I would not count on him until at least week 3. He is a relevant handcuff for Sharrif Floyd and Linval Joseph. Both are options in IDP leagues. Owners who own either would be wise to place Stephen on their watchlist in the event of an injury.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

CB Josh Robinson (PUP) (chest)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Robinson will start the year on the PUP list and does not have a timetable for return. If and when he does return his only relevancy is as handcuff to the top 3 CB’s in Minnesota. Trae Waynes being drafted made Robinson an afterthought for fantasy purposes.

New England Patriots

Probable:

RB Travaris Cadet (hamstring), WR Julian Edelman (ankle)

Questionable:

DE Trey Flowers (undisclosed)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Rookie DE Flowers is the handcuff for fantasy stud Chandler Jones. His progress is worth monitoring, but he will not produce as much as Jones will. He is expected to be ready week 1, but  this is the Patriots.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

RB LeGarrette Blount (susp)

Handcuff: James White/Brandon Bolden
Fantasy Impact: With the release of Jonas Gray, Blount has far less competition for snaps. The Patriots system, which takes advantage of their opponents weakness, is probably Blount’s biggest challenge. He will return to the starting RB position after he serves his one game suspension, and also return to RB2 status. Monitor the usage of his handcuffs in the Patriots first game for more information on who to use. Your guess is as good as anyone at this point.

DT Alan Branch (undisclosed)

Handcuff: Dominique Easley/Malcolm Brown
Fantasy Impact: There is no information available to suggest a timetable for return for Branch. Nor is their any indication as to why he will miss time. Regardless Easley and Brown are better IDP options in all formats. Each has a reasonable chance to produce solid fantasy numbers. They are currently in the DL3 conversation with upside.

DT Chris Jones (PUP) (undisclosed)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Jones is off the IDP radar. He may have some relevance as a handcuff for Nincovich. He will not be eligible for return until week 7.

LB Dane Fletcher (PUP) (undisclosed)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Fletcher is the handcuff for Jamie Collins. His main contributions are on special teams. His injury and time frame for return are unknown. Shocker!

WR Brandon LaFell (PUP) (undisclosed)

Handcuff: Danny Amendola
Fantasy Impact: LaFell will begin the season on the PUP list and there is no timetable for his return. What that means, I have no idea. And I’m a Patriots fan. LaFell was the WR22 last season. A solid fantasy provider. It was expected that he perform to the same capacity if not slightly better. That responsibility will fall to Amendola. An injury prone player with limited talent, Amendola can produce in a pinch, but is not an every week starter like LaFell. Stay tuned for more information on LaFell.  We should no nothing eventually.

New Orleans Saints

Probable:

DT Akiem Hicks (leg)

Questionable:

RB Khiry Robinson (undisclosed)

Handcuff: Tim Hightower
Fantasy Impact: Expected to return for week 1, Robinson is Ingram’s handcuff. Unless Ingram misses time he has little standalone value. If Ingram does miss time Robinson immediately has low end RB2 value. He is a must add for Ingram owners. Hightower has not played a down since 2011. Making the 53 man roster is the most he will do for fantasy purposes.

RB C.J. Spiller (knee)

Handcuff: Marcus Murphy
Fantasy Impact: Spiller comes to New Orleans looking for a fresh start. Injuries and a crowded backfield kept him from blossoming into the back everyone expected him to be. In New Orleans he will hope to thrive in a 3rd down role. The problem I’m seeing is that Ingram is an above average pass catcher. Add in the emergence of Marcus Murphy, a young, exciting, Sproles-like new tool for Sean Payton to play with and Spiller may be no more than an RB3/4 with limited upside. Of course, he could break an 85 yard TD run on his first play from scrimmage and take 10 to 15 snaps a week from Ingram. As always, Spillers health will go a long way in determining his value. He should be on the field by week 2 at the latest.

LB Dannell Ellerbe (undisclosed)

Handcuff: Ramon Humber
Fantasy Impact: Ellerbe came to New Orleans from Miami where he was an enormous disappointment. When he returns week 1, he will be surrounded by much more talent at LB in New Orleans and should benefit from that as he did in Baltimore. If his injury does not keep him from playing week 1, he is someone to monitor as a possible waiver add in week 2. Humber would not be on the IDP radar in the event that Ellerbe misses time.

CB Brandon Browner (leg)

Handcuff: Damian Swann
Fantasy Impact: If CB’s received fantasy points for pass-interference penalties, Browner would be the greatest of all time. Unfortunately, they don’t and Browner looks to be in over his head after the injury to Keenan Lewis. Browner is a bump and run specialist. A skill-set that does not typically bode well against the top WR’s in the NFL, which he will see on a weekly basis. He is expected to suit up week 1, but i recommend staying away from all New Orleans DB’s.

Doubtful:

Inactive:

WR Nick Toon (IR) (ankle)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Toon went from favorite to be the 3rd WR to completely irrelevant this preseason. After being placed on IR he will miss the entire season. He is off the fantasy radar.

DE Anthony Spencer (IR) (undisclosed)

Handcuff: Hau’oli Kikaha
Fantasy Impact: Spencer was expected to start at DE for the Saints. His absence for the season opens the door for rookie sleeper Hau’oli Kikaha. A force in college, Kikaha has chase and tackle and pass rushing skills. His athleticism originally had him listed as LB until injuries warranted a move to DE. If still on waivers, pick him up.

CB Keenan Lewis (hip)

Handcuff: Brandon Browner
Fantasy Impact: Lewis is the Saints top CB. He was able to put up decent fantasy numbers last season and finished on the cusp of consideration. Expected to miss 4-6 weeks, Lewis will start slow this season pushing him from the fringe of IDP relevance. Both Lewis and Browner should be avoided in all formats.

CB P.J. Williams (IR) (hamstring)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: The third round pick of the ’15 draft, Williams’ season ended before it began. The Florida State product has loads of talent and was expected to be the third of a three headed monster in the Saints defensive backfield. Unfortunately, we will have to wait to next season to see it. Williams is worth keeping an eye on for next season.

S Jarius Byrd (PUP) (knee)

Handcuff: Rafael Bush
Fantasy Impact: Byrd will be ineligible for the first 6 weeks of the season. When healthy, Byrd is a ball hawking S with tackling ability. The problem is he hasn’t been healthy since 2012. At 28 years and half a season, Byrd should not be considered a fantasy option. His handcuff Bush is a tackling machine. Problem with Bush is he also cannot stay healthy. Ignore this situation until someone proves otherwise.

S Vinnie Sunseri (IR) (undisclosed)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Sunseri makes this list simply because he is a rookie with upside. Because Rob Ryan often plays 3 safety sets, Sunseri could have more relevancy than most back up S upon his return in ’16. While playing for Alabama Sunseri was paired with fantasy stud Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and looked just as capable.

New York Giants

Probable:

DE Robert Ayers (ankle), LB Mark Herzlich (concussion), CB Prince Amukamara (groin), CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin)

Questionable:

WR Victor Cruz (calf)

Handcuff: Dwayne Harris
Fantasy Impact: Cruz believes he will be ready for week 1. Coughlin generally doesn’t play players that do not practice. This situation should be monitored closely. Cruz offers the potential for great value were he was drafted in all formats. If he can return to his 2013 form, the Giants will have one of the scariest WR tandems in the league. Harris is a shifty slot WR that is most valuable on special teams. He is not a fantasy option if Cruz cannot go.

LB Jon Beason (knee)

Handcuff: Jonathan Casillas
Fantasy Impact: Beason is a tackling machine when healthy. Problem is, hes rarely healthy. He is hoping to be ready for week 1 but at 30 years old and entering another season already injured, he is unlikely to be productive for more than a few games this season. Owners who can afford to not rely on him may benefit from his rare IDP relevance. If you don’t have room, don’t pick him up. Casillas is hurt himself and is a better “real life” option than fantasy.

Jonathan Casillas (neck)

Handcuff: James Davidson
Fantasy Impact: Expected to be ready week 1, Casillas is the handcuff for oft-injured Jon Beason, which gives him relevance immediately. He may get significant playing time this season, but will likely not contribute much for fantasy purposes. Whether starting or not, owners should avoid Casillas and Davidson.

S Landon Collins (knee)

Handcuff: Stevie Brown
Fantasy Impact: Collins is a highly capable rookie expected to start and produce right out of the gate. He is expected to start week 1. The Giants are hoping this happens after losing 3 safeties to injury this off-season. Collins should have DB1/2 value immediately. Stevie Browns return to the Giants is not important to fantasy owners just as it wasn’t his first time around.

K Josh Brown (leg)

Handcuff: None
Fantasy Impact: Brown is expected to kick for the Giants week 1. Owners should not worry until the get help at the position.

Doubtful:

DE Jason Pierre-Paul (hand)

Handcuff: Owamagbe Odighizuwa
Fantasy Impact: Pierre-Paul is a premier DE for fantasy purposes. His doubtful status is concerning for the Giants and fantasy owners that invested in him. He has said that he will return and play week 1, but he is not the only one who has a say in that. If out, play double O. As a rookie he may be inconsistent, but his upside is enourmous. He may just be the next great Giants D-lineman.

Inactive:

S Mykkele Thompson (IR) (achilles)

Handcuff: Brandon Meriweather
Fantasy Impact: Mykkele was supposed to be the complimentary piece to an all rookie safety tandem. He still may be but not this year. Along with Collins the duo were both considered to be fantasy relevant and produce at a DB1/2/3 level. Thompson will try and bring this to fruition next year. Meriweather is a decent replacement that offer DB2 potential. The problem is he is often suspended for illegal activity on the field. He is worth adding, more so in re-draft.

New York Jets

Probable:

DE Muhammad Wilkerson (hamstring), LB Jamari Lattimore (knee), LB Erin Henderson (knee),    S Marcus Gilchrist (shoulder)

Questionable:

RB Bilal Powell (ankle)

Handcuff: Zac Stacy
Fantasy Impact: Powell is expected to play week 1. Because he is a passing down back, his fantasy stats are minimal. In the event that starter Chris Ivory goes down, it is unlikely that he would be his handcuff. On a team that lacks a dynamic passing attack, Powell should not be considered in any format without significant injuries to the Jets RB position. Stacy on the other hand, likely would fill in for Ivory and like Ivory is a volume producer. Stacy, at least until Ridley returns, should be rostered by all Ivory owners.

WR Jeremy Kerley (concussion)

Handcuff: Devin Smith
Fantasy Impact: Kerley lost third WR duties to Quincy Enunwa in preseason. He is expected to be only relevant on special teams and in 4 wide sets. His handcuff, Devin Smith will likely pass him on the depth chart by mid-season. If you own Kerley he can be dropped, despite likely being ready to roll week 1.

WR Devin Smith (ribs)

Handcuff: None

Fantasy Impact: Smith will compete with Kerley for playing time upon his return. He will likely over
