Good afternoon!
Today started off on a great note with a mother/daughter workout!
My mom, sister and I headed off to Jazzercise after breakfast this morning and it was one of the most energetic classes I’ve taken in a while! My mom’s studio recently underwent some management changes and I think it will be a good thing in the end because one of the new owners taught today’s class and the energy in the room was on fire. Though I love Jazzercise most of the time, I will wholeheartedly admit that the class depends a lot on the instructor (as it is with most group exercise classes, right?), and the instructor we had today was so spunky and fun that she just made you want to dance around and sweat. It felt like an aerobics party!
We arrived home and I was ready for a mid-morning snack and fixed myself a cottage cheese and fruit bowl.
I scooped cottage cheese into a bowl and topped it with cantaloupe, strawberries and grapefruit and sprinkled it with cinnamon. A great sweet and salty protein-packed snack! I need to make this one for breakfast in the future because it was delicious.
About 90 minutes later, my dad and Ryan arrived home from their own workout at my dad’s gym and they were ready for lunch, so our little group headed out to a local deli for soup, salads and subs. (My sister’s husband had to work today.)
I opted for a large garden salad with Italian dressing and a cup of ham and white bean soup since I wasn’t overly hungry and also really wanted to get some veggies back into my diet after a few days of sparse greens!
Everything at Sun Deli was delicious but my mom and dad’s Cuzzo Subs stole the show. They were kind enough to share some with me and I loved the sub so much! It sounds like an odd combination, but Sun Deli’s Cuzzo Sub is made with pepperoni and American cheese toasted on a sub roll and topped with fresh egg salad. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it!
After lunch, Ryan and I leashed up the dogs and took Sadie and my sister and her husband’s dog Kona for a walk by the beach. The weather here is cloudy but warm enough to wear a light sweatshirt, so it’s great walking weather!
Sadie and Kona are really cute together and get along well but we always laugh and say that the first 24-hours they have together are “touch and go” as they figure out who is the alpha dog and get into a few little barking wars over food and toys and people. (Sadie is super jealous when anyone from my family loves on Kona more than her. She’s such a needy little lady.) After the first day, it’s smooth sailing and they get into a good little rhythm and play together very well!
Our walk with the two dogs, however, wasn’t exactly smooth sailing since each dog had absolutely no concept of avoiding the other dog’s leash. There were lots of untangling breaks, but eventually we got into somewhat of a rhythm and had fun! We made our way to Deck the Chairs, a neat display of decorated lifeguard chairs.
Ryan and I said we’ll have to make sure to walk down to the display later this week after the sun sets to see everything all lit up! I think it will be really neat!
And now I am off to study up on some choreography for the PiYo class I am going to be teaching in January. I have a lot of notes to take and choreography to learn so I brought the DVD with me to study up while we’re in Jacksonville. Catch ya later!
Question of the Day
Pet owners: How does your pet do around other animals?
In general, Sadie is pretty good with other animals. She totally ignores cats and is indifferent toward most dogs unless they come into our house (“her territory”) and then she can get a little goofy and protective over certain things like her food and water bowls, certain toys and the couch (“her space”).
