Hi there, I write content in English as well as in Hindi. I have been blogging in Hindi at ShoutMeHindi from last 3-4 months. I am asked by more than 40-50 people since I am writing on ShoutMeHindi that, “How to Type in Hindi?” I do a short study and research that How many people actually know how they can type in Hindi.

I was surprised to know that only a few people about 20% actually know how they can type in Hindi on a normal home use PC. Many of the people think that it is only possible to type in Hindi using a Hindi Keyboard. Other thinks that we should have proper knowledge about the Hindi keyword type letters, their positions, proper Hindi Grammer and even some thinks that you should have a proper training or course qualified to type in Hindi on a PC.

But is it really so difficult? Hmm.. I don’t think. According to me If you are a native Hindi speaker, you can type in Hindi on PC better than English. Don’t get surprised, this is true. I will show you in this blog post how you can type in Hindi so easily.

Technology especially Information Technology or we can also say that Internet-related things are progressing and developing at a very fast rate than other types. Now, there are such technologies by using which you can type whether you are actually touching the keyboard or not such as Voice typing available on most of the Android Phones normally. Don’t think that these things are progressing with the majority to English only but also keeping importance to Regional Languages. Have you have wonder why Google offers regional languages support in Search Results?

English has affected our lifestyle and also affecting the way in which we speak our regional languages. Have you every noticed that you use a lot of English words when you even spoke in your regional language? Such as you use many English words when you even talk in Hindi.

Here I want to tell you an Interesting fact and a hint of typing in Hindi tutorial. which I am going to give you in this blog post. Most of us use social Networking sites namely Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. We talk with our friends and relatives in Hindi, but we type in English instead. Is it right or not? Like we want to ask How are you? We type in Hindi as “Kaise ho tum?” or if we want to say What is your company’s name? we type as “aapki company ka naam kya hai?”

In this way, we type in Hindi but in English font. Actually we are writing in Hindi but we are not using the Devnagri Lipi or Devnagri Letters to type. We are expressing the Hindi language in the means of English Writing. Anyhow, the sentences given in the above paragraph can be written in Devnagri Hindi Lipi as, कैसे हो तुम? and आपकी कंपनी का क्या नाम है? Our Today’s Tutorial is very similar to this.

Now, let us start today’s tutorial.

How to Type in Hindi?

There are many methods to type in the Hindi Language font (The Devnagri Font). Nowadays, You can type in Hindi on a normal PC using the following ways:

Using a Hindi Keyboard

Using a Hindi Keyboard Layout or using an on-screen Hindi keyboard

Using Online and Offline typing tools

Voice Typing

Most of the modern Operating systems, web browsers, and word processing Softwares offers support to Hindi Language fonts. These have Hindi fonts and fonts of many other regional languages pre-installed or you can install the Hindi fonts manually. Mangal is a Hindi Unicode font which I have seen in many Windows programs and Microsoft Word. Anyhow, many other Unicode Hindi fonts are available such as my favorite Kokila font.

Fonts may be a problem that you may face initially. There are many fonts which can be used if you have a Hindi keyboard or its layout only. They are not Unicode. That’s why I advise you to use a Unicode font by using which you can have a Combination of English and Hindi. Basically, due to today’s technology and facilities, you can handle and understand this thing easily.

Hindi Typing Tools – Make Typing in Hindi Easy

Using a Hindi keyboard and using a Hindi keyboard layout are the old ways and you need not to learn them. Instead of that you can use Tools to type in Hindi in the way which is as easy as typing in English. Today, In this How to type in Hindi tutorial, I am going to tell you about two awesome tools which make typing in Hindi as desirable dreams.

By using both of the tools given above, you can not just type in Hindi but also in many other regional languages. Let us learn about both of these tools one by one.

Google Input Tools – Type in Hindi Anywhere on Your PC (Offline + Online)

This is my personal choice and the best Hindi Typing Tool which you can use on the go on your PC whether you are offline or Online. I love this tool. I use this tool to type in Hindi everywhere. This tool is available in many languages other than Hindi. You can try Google Input tools online as well as cal also install it on your PC for offline use.

Go to http://www.google.co.in/inputtools/try/ to Try Google Input Tools.

If you want to install Google Input Tools on your PC follow these steps:-

Go to http://www.google.co.in/inputtools/

Select “On Windows” from the Top Menu if you want to Install it on your Windows PC.

Select the Language of the Tool say Hindi and download it for your PC. (Shown in the following screenshot)

Once, it downloaded, install it, the setup will take a few seconds or minutes to install the Google Input tools on your PC.

You can now see the Google Input Toos bar in your Taskbar to switch between Languages as shown in the following screenshot.

How to Use Google Input Tools to Type in Hindi?

Let us now learn how we can type in Hindi using Google Input Tools on a Windows PC for offline and online use. Firstly I have given the short steps and then explained them after.

The three steps to easily type in Hindi using Google Input Tools are:-

Switch to Hindi (India) using the Taskbar Icon.

Open the Area where you want to Type.

Type in English in the manner of Hindi.

Let us now learn each step in a short detail. Firstly as I said using the Google Input Tools toolbar or icon in the right of the taskbar switch to the Hindi (India) Option. When you will swith it, you can see a hindi toolbar labelling as अ of Hindi.

Now open any are online or offline where you want to type in Hindi. For example, In the screenshot below, I have opened Notepad.

Start typing in English but in the mannner of Hindi pronunciation such as in the following screenshort I am typing namaste for नमस्ते and It is showing me suggestions also. I can choose from the suggestions by using mouse or Up down keys. After selecting press Enter and it will be typed in Hindi. (Screenshot given below)

Similarly you can type full sentences in Hindi by using English Keyboard easliy. Isn’t easy?

Here I have a example sentence for you.

If I will type, “kya aap mere blog ke niymit pathak ho? aapko mera blog padhna kaisa lagta hai?”

It will give the result as: क्या आप मेरे ब्लॉग के नियमित पाठक हो? आपको मेरा ब्लॉग पढना कैसा लगता है?”

Similarly, You can type anything in Hindi the easy way. Google Input Tools is full of features. There are many other features availabe in Google Input Tools which you may like such as User Dictionary and Hindi Keyboard Suppot and Good customizations.

You can type in many Indian languages using this tool. Here below I have given the screenshot of Quillpad in which I have typed a line. Then after typing you can copy the text from there to your desired location.

There are also a few other tools availabe online which you can use like the above two to type in Hindi easily.
