Five Injured in Broward Boulevard Crash

Five people, three adults and two children, were hospitalized when their Suzuki Forenza, traveling east on Broward Boulevard, left the road and hit a tree. The crash temporarily closed the eastbound section of Broward Boulevard in the area of the crash.

Crash Details

The three adults, ranging in age from 25 to 30, had to be extricated from the vehicle while the two children, one an infant and the other under the age of three, were transported to Broward Health Medical Center and admitted for observation. The children, who were in the backseat of the vehicle, were not in car seats, according to police. The accident is still under investigation, but there is no evidence of alcohol or cell phone use, and police speculate that the driver swerved to avoid something in the roadway before losing control of the vehicle (http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-11-25/news/fl-broward-blvd-crash-20131125_1_broward-boulevard-three-adults-minor-injuries).

Car Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, almost three million people are injured in car accidents annually, and more than 30,000 people die each year from injuries they receive in car crashes. In Florida, there were 2,424 fatalities in 2012, an increase of one percent from 2011 (http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot/gov/pubs/811856.pdf). Because this accident happened on Broward Boulevard, a road that contains heavy traffic at all hours of the day, it is shocking that this crash did not have more vehicles involved, leading to what could have been a crisis situation.
