Opera Insights are FREE presentations given by Corliss Phillabaum, Professor of Theater at UW Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts at two Milwaukee area locations – the Wauwatosa Public Library (7635 West North Ave. Wauwatosa, WI 53213) and the Wayne & Kristine Lueders Florentine Opera Center (926 E. Burleigh Street Milwaukee, WI 53212). Opera Insights take a closer look at the upcoming opera performance. Each 45-minute program contains a detailed synopsis, background on the opera and live musical selections preformed by the Florentine Opera Studio Artists. Attendees are treated to arias, duets and small ensembles performed by Florentine Opera Chorus members. ABOUT THE FLYING DUTCHMAN:
Bass-baritone Wayne Tigges (Olin Blitch in Susannah, 2012) returns as the tormented Dutchman, opposite British soprano Alwyn Mellor making her Florentine debut as Senta. Florentine favorite bass Peter Volpe (Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni, 2006; Timur in Turandot, 2011; and Zuniga in Carmen, 2012) returns as Senta’s father, Daland. Danish tenor David Danholt makes his debut as Erik, and mezzo-soprano Jenni Bank (Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, 2013) sings Mary. Maestro Joseph Rescigno (conducting for Florentine productions dating back to 1981) conducts the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in this new production directed by Paula Suozzi.
