Florence Inferno is a blog containing information on events occuring in Florence, as well as an events guide to what’s happening in the city in terms of music, art, cinema, markets, and so much more. In this post, we have provided you with information on events taking place over the next two weeks.
You won’t want to miss the Fabbrica Europa Festival at Stazione Leopolda. This festival comprises a terrific program of theatre, dance, as well as visual arts focused on the dialog between African and European artists. It is a cultural journey made up of creative meetings and co-productions. Until July 2, 2015.
We also make special mention of the Fiorita Commemoration at Piazza della Signoria on Saturday May 23. It is a floral homage to Savonarola, the Domenican friar who preached during the Renaissance and commanded the Florentine Republic from 1494 to 1498. He was hanged and burned at the stake in 1498 on the charge of being a heretic. This authentic tradition takes place at the circular plaque embedded in the stones of Piazza Signoria, where this historic event took place. For this occasion, Florentines leave flowers for Savonarola, just as was done after his death.

Power and Pathos. Bronze Sculpture of the Hellenistic World at Palazzo Strozzi. Florence will be hosting a major exhibition showcasing some of the ancient world’s most important masterpieces of sculpture, with exhibitions from leading Italian and international museums. The exhibition uses 50 bronze sculptures to tell the story of the spectacular artistic developments of the Hellenistic era throughout the Mediterranean basin.
