The Florence Inferno website consists of a blog with information on the events occuring in Florence, in addition to an events guide on what’s happening in the city in terms of music, art, cinema, markets, and so much more. In this post, we have provided you with information on events occurring throughout July 2016.
This week we make special mention of our fabulous lineup of concerts taking place in Tuscany during summer! Thanks to our wide range of festivals, concerts, and cultural and special events, there is always something to do!
Not to be missed are two of the most important music festivals in Tuscany: the Summer Festival at Piazza Napoleone in Lucca, which boasts the presence of some of the most famous international artists, such as Lionel Richie on July 12; Simply Red and Anastacia on July 20; and The Pistoia Blues Festival in Pistoia, one of the oldest music festivals in Tuscany, where you can attend concerts by Mika on July 5, Bastille on July 11, The National on July 12, Skunk Anansie on July 14, and Damien Rice on July 15.
We must also make special mention of Medieval Festival of Monteriggioni at the Castle of Monteriggioni (Siena), outside Florence. It is one of the best costume festivals in Italy: most of the inhabitants dress in medieval costumes, and there are jugglers, acrobats, and re-enactments of a medieval battle. In addition, you will find medieval markets with gastronomic areas to enjoy delicious medieval food. From Friday, July 8, until Sunday, July 10, and from Friday, July 15 until Sunday, July 17.

The Fourth Circle in the Courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi. Students from NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ Commedia dell’Arte perform a musical procession of larger-than-life puppets exploring Dante’s Fourth Circle and the sin of Greed, as hoarders and wasters joust with huge bags of money, and bankers descend to the regions below. Sunset on the Tower of San Niccolò. There was a time when the San Niccolò tower was used to defend this district from that of the Arno. Today, it offers an incredible view of Florence. It is an original tour to understanding its history and purpose with a spectacular view of the city at sunset from the top. Jean Michel Folon at Florence Rose Garden. Just below Piazzale Michelangelo, this permanent exhibition is dedicated to the world-famous Belgian artist Jean Michel Folon. Twelve bronze statues adorn the paths of the garden, which contains approximately 1,000 varieties of plants and over 350 species of roses. Hours of operation: 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Marino Marini Museum. The Marino Marini Museum is one of the few places in town dedicated to twentieth-century art. It houses a permanent exhibition of contemporary art by Marino Marini. Celebration of Saint Romulus, the patron saint of Fiesole. According to tradition, Romulus was a local deacon, priest, or bishop of the first century who became the first bishop of Fiesole. He was martyred during the reign of Domitian.
The celebration starts at 11 a.m. with the Santa Messa, celebrated by the Archbishop. At 5.30 p.m., there will be a procession with the relics of the patron saint being translated through the streets, followed by the offering of the Votive candle. Finally, as usual, at 10.30 p.m., there will be fireworks.

Santa Maria Novella Station: 80 Years. New permanent photography exhibition at Santa Maria Novella train station. The exhibit was curated by the Fondazione Giovanni Michelucci, named after the station’s head architect. Spiritual Guards by Jan Fabre in Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, and Forte Belvedere. The show will feature bronze sculptures, wax works, Fabre’s signature beetle shell compositions, and films of his theatrical performances, all dating between 1978 and 2016.
