The Gulf Shores Woman’s Club offers a Single Parent Scholarship, awarded in May annually. The women of the Club recognize the importance of education and promote the ambitious efforts of a single parent in supporting one or more children while working to achieve educational and career goals. Applicants must be a resident of Baldwin County, a single parent, graduate from high school, in need of financial aid, and enrolled in a college or training program. Dodie H. Fesenmyer Scholarship – University of Arizona
The School of Nursing at the University of Arizona offers the Dodie H. Fesenmyer Scholarship to help students with financial need. Applicants must be undergraduate nursing students who have demonstrated “satisfactory progress towards a degree,” according to the university. Preference for the scholarship is given to single parents who are studying nursing because they “might not otherwise have this opportunity without financial assistance,” as stated by the school. Helping Hands for Single Moms is a community-based non-profit organization offering unrestricted scholarships of up to $270 each month to help impoverished single mothers who live in the Phoenix metro area pursue college degree and achieve financial independence.
When a single mom first enrolls in college, her family situation often becomes worse before it gets better. In addition to midterms, finals and term papers, the single mom must attempt to live on inadequate financial resources while maintaining a household, managing transportation challenges, and nurturing her children. She is juggling school, family and work while facing loneliness, isolation, and low self-esteem. Together, these are significant challenges that often converge and can lead to dropping out of school.
In order to facilitate success, Helping Hands for Single Moms provides a supportive program. The program benefits for our moms include an unrestricted scholarship for $270 per month, AAA towing, assistance with auto repairs, emergency funds, tech assistance for computers and software, limited dental and medical care for mom, hair cut and style, holiday gifts, carpet cleaning, budget management, optional mentoring and tutoring, textbook purchase assistance, Single Moms Network monthly meetings, professional counseling, legal counsel, and a life insurance policy.
This scholarship requires that the applicant live in the Phoenix metro area. To be eligible, candidates must attend college, have U.S. citizenship and reside in Maricopa County, AZ. She must carry a minimum of nine credit hours per semester, maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA or better, have at least one child under age 11 living with her, attend and participate in the Single Moms Network meetings each month, be a responsible and responsive program participant, and not reside with a domestic partner.

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund
The ASPSF funds multiple scholarship programs throughout Arkansas Individual scholarships fund tuition and books, and may potentially also cover utility costs, car maintenance, and childcare. Capture the Dream Single Parent Scholarship
In hopes of encouraging single California parents to pursue higher education, Capture the Dream, Inc. (“CTD”) announced the introduction of its Single Parent Scholarship Fund offering college-bound students with a $1,000 scholarship for their dedication and dream of obtaining a four-year degree. This scholarship is open to all graduating college-bound high school and/or undergraduate single mothers or single fathers already enrolled at four-year institutions. This scholarship does not refer to students that come from a background of having a single parent. Applicants are primarily judged on the strengths of their essays, community service, demonstrated leadership, GPA, and annual household income. Eligible applicants must be well-rounded individuals who have demonstrated exemplary achievements in academic, community, and leadership activities. Sol Goldberg Childcare Subsidy
The National Council of Jewish Women offer a number of scholarships, including a $1,000 subsidy intended to ease the burden of childcare. Applicants must reside and attend school in the Greater Los Angeles area with the intention of acquiring marketable skills. T&R Fund Flying Solo Single Parent Scholarship
Provides scholarships to fulltime, undergraduate, single parent college scholars in need of financial aid. We presently have only one program available for the 2012 / 2013 school year. The program available is the Southern Program for students at UCCS and Pikes Peak Community College. Competition for our scholarships is sometimes intense and not all applicants should expect to be awarded a scholarship. You are enrolling in the upcoming year as a sophomore, junior or senior at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs campus, or You are enrolling in your final year at Pikes Peak Community College and your course of study will allow transfer to UCCS. There is no preference given based on which campus you enroll at, or for being enrolled as a sophomore versus a junior or senior at UCCS or as a final year student at PPCC. You are a single parent with primary responsibility for raising your children and you qualify for financial aid. Preference is given to parents with pre-teenage children. You are committed to going to school fulltime (defined as 24 semester hours minimum per year, including fall, spring and summer classes). You have a current cumulative GPA that is 2.5 or higher, if attending CU, or you have a current GPA, that is equivalent to the GPA necessary to transfer to UCCS upon completion of your PPCC / UCCS transfer program. For over 20 years, SCF’s Student Government Association (SGA) has worked diligently to raise money for single parent scholarships. The Wayne Gulbrandsen Academic Scholarship for Single Parents was formed by SGA students after one of their members who was a single parent, Wayne Gulbrandsen, passed away. The scholarship was created to honor Wayne’s memory and has since then enabled numerous single parents to complete their education at SCF. The application process is held each spring. FGCU Single Parent Grant
The FGCU Single Parent Grant is awarded to needy independent students who are single parents and who file the FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 1. Students are eligible for a full-time award when they are enrolled in a minimum of twelve undergraduate credit hours per semester; they receive a prorated award when they are enrolled in fewer than twelve undergraduate credit hours per semester. Students must enroll for at least six undergraduate credit hours per semester in order to be eligible. The maximum full-time award is $1,000 per academic year. Due to limited funding, not all students that meet eligibility and deadline requirements will receive this grant. This grant is for one year only and is not guaranteed in subsequent years. The following assistance is available for single mothers in Georgia;
Georgia Tech Single Parent Scholarship
Auxiliary Services awards one $4,000 scholarship to a Georgia Tech student who can show how he/she successfully juggles classes at Georgia Tech while single parenting one or more children. Two essays are required for this scholarship, one asks future goals and how a degree will support the goal. The second essay asks for specific challenges the applicant has experienced while balancing academic and parenting responsibilities.
This application requires three letters of reference and only one may be from a peer.
The Single Parent Scholarship application will be accessible at the same time as the other IMPACT scholarships at www.impact.gatech.edu January 21 for the complete IMPACT and Single Parent Scholarship packages.
Georgia Teen Mother Scholarship
This scholarship program for young single mothers is offered by two families who feel that teen mothers deserve the opportunity to attend college in an ongoing effort to better their lives. The scholarship award is worth $2,000 and is paid directly to the recipients selected college. Also, applicants must have given birth prior to January 31st of their senior year in high school. Applicants must be accepted to any technical school, two- or four-year college, and must plan to complete a program of study or degree at a technical school, two or four-year college. Patsy Takemoto Mink served in the U.S. Congress twice, where she represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District. The first woman of color elected to the US House of Representatives, she worked tirelessly for civil rights, women’s rights, economic justice, civil liberties, peace, and the integrity of the democratic process.
Established in 2003, the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation aims to carry on some of Congresswoman Mink’s most ardent commitments: educational access, support, and opportunity for low-income women, especially mothers, and educational enrichment for children. In 2012, the Foundation offered five Education Support Awards of up to $2,000 each to assist low-income women, with children, who are pursuing education or training. Education Support Awards may be used for direct school expenses or for living expenses while the student is enrolled in an educational program.
Applicant must be a woman, at least 17 years of age. She must be a mother with minor children (under age 18). She must be enrolled in a skills training, ESL, or a GED program; or pursuing a technical/vocational degree, an associate’s degree, a first bachelor’s degree, or a professional/master’s/doctoral degree. She must be enrolled in an accredited program during the appropriate academic year. She must have a low-income background.

There is a Single Parent Scholarship open to a sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a major in the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs (Anthropology is a major in the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs).
