There is plenty of reason for flea market vendors of home décor and textile products to be optimistic about sales in 2013 and beyond. The recovery in the housing market, along with consumers’ passion for attractive home furnishings, has helped spark an uptick in spending in this category. According to a new report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., the global market for bed and bath furnishings is forecast to reach USD $27.8 billion by the year 2015. Furthermore, the global home furnishings market is expected to reach $700 billion by 2015, according to the report, “Home Furnishings: A Global Outlook.”
Microfiber bedding with decorative lace border
SouthShore Fine Living® designs and manufactures a line of high quality bedding products under the SouthShore Fine Linens brand. The company recently introduced new microfiber bedding with a four-inch decorative lace border on the flat sheet and pillowcase. “The lace is our own design,” states Sohail Chaudhry, CEO. This product is available in white, off white, sage green, light blue, chocolate brown and steel grey, and in sizes from twin to California king. “It has quickly become very popular,” Chaudhry reports. Due to customer appeals, SouthShore Fine Living will be expanding the line with additional colors. “We have received several requests for burgundy and different shades of beige/ivory. For mass buying, the neutral colors are top sellers.”
The company has experienced a 60 percent increase in sales during the last 12 months. “We have unique, branded products that are custom made for us. We specify everything, from the design, thread count and stitching to our exclusive packaging,” Chaudhry explains. “All our bed sheets are made for extra deep pockets and fit 18 to 21 inch mattresses.” SouthShore Fine Linens’ products are available in 110 gsm (grams per square metre) microfiber sheets, and 300 up to 1,000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.
Bed-in-a-bag, floral and geo patterns
Artistic Linen Inc. is another company that specializes in up to date home textile products at affordable prices. Among its bedding, bath and kitchen products are sheet sets, shower curtains, kitchen curtains, luxury bedding and bed-in-a-bag, the latter of which is one of its most popular sellers. The company offers bedding in a broad array of trending colors, such as earth tones, black and white combinations, and teal and rust, and hot selling patterns, including stripes, geometrics and flowers. “People are attracted to our fashionable styles and designs, and our products sell well at flea markets,” says Ali Dandin, VP of marketing. ” All our designs are created by our team in New York, and we have a partnership with a factory in China where our merchandise is manufactured to our specifications.”
Salt & pepper sets and wine holders
When it comes to home décor, DWK Corporation creates hundreds of unique items. The company’s merchandise includes salt & pepper sets, wine holders, lanterns, picture frames, ashtrays and more, in fun themes such as zombies, animals and western. “Right now we are working on a new series based on the ‘Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil’ theme,” says Dave Kim, owner and president. After many customer requests for this traditional novelty, DWK decided to make a version for its zombie line. “We launched our zombie series about six months ago with a lantern, salt & pepper set, wine holder and ashtray, because many consumers want these things,” he states.
In addition to bringing in new series, DWK continues to expand its established lines. “Our salt & pepper sets and wine holders are very strong sellers,” Kim reports. DWK’s products often feature animals, and the firm has many statuaries of dogs, cats, elephants, bears, roosters, wolves, tigers and buffalo, to name a few. DWK’s dog figurines are extremely hot items, and the company recently introduced a female Chihuahua with a pink bow and collar. “Pretty in Pink” is already a huge hit with retail buyers.
Incense coils in trendy art deco cans
Scents-Of-Asia is another company with a popular home décor product. The firm recently introduced an exclusive line of incense coils, available in four of today’s most popular fragrances, including sandalwood, rose, lavender and jasmine. Each set of 50 coils and original bunny coil holder is packaged in a trendy art deco paper can. “The can is designed to be a piece of art, and our floral artwork is copyrighted,” says owner Randy Sell. The unit makes an elegant statement, and combines complementary pastel can hues and bold coil colors. The muted shade of the lavender can, for example, coordinates with a deep purple coil. Each coil is around 30 inches long and burns two to three hours, for 100 to 150 hours of enjoyment per can.
Bed, bath and home decor is a very important category for vendors in 2013 and beyond. As consumers’ needs for functional home products, as well as desire for decorative furnishings, continues to grow, sellers can be ready with the latest looks in microfiber and fashionable bedding, zombie themes and fun animal statuaries, and stylish art deco incense coils.
