Fernando Torres is a Spanish footballer who currently plays for EPL club Chelsea FC  as a striker.Torres’s 57 mill Euro move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2009 is the highest ever signing in EPL and has became the most expensive Spanish player ever. FAMILY HISTORY:

Fernando Torres was born to José Torres,his father and to  Flori Sanz,his mother.Torres’s mother used to travel with him daily to his practice session.His grandfather,Claudio Torres was a big fan of Atletico Madrid.He also has a brother named Israel and a sister named Mari Paz.

 

PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

Torres began his professional career at Spanish club Athletico Madrid. However his first season didn’t go the way he dreamt of.He managed to score only 6 goals. However his manager showed faith in him and gave Torres another chance and he certainly didn’t disappoint his manager by scoring 13 goals in his next La Liga season. From then on Torres continued his goal scoring streak and scored 19 goals in his next season. Torres form had already created a lot of buzz in Europe and saw many big European clubs trying to sign him which included the likes of  Liverpool , Chelsea and Newcastle too.But Atletico were not willing to give away their star striker for easy.

However on 3rd July 2007, Torres signed for Liverpool for a reported fee of  23.8 mill Euros. Torres made his Liverpool debut on 11th August 2011 in 2-1 win against Aston Villa.Torres continued his goal scoring streak and in his first season only Torres managed to sign 24 goals in the League becoming the only  Liverpool player to cross the 20 goal mark after Robbie Fowler.His superb form saw him get nominated for the PFA Player’s Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year and was a part of the PFA Team of the Year.

The next season saw Torres miss out most of the season due to injuries and managed to play only 38 games but still however managed to score 17 goals. Torres. He was also shortlisted for the FIFA World Player of the Year award in December, and came third behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

His goal scoring form saw Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich launch a 50 mill bid for him which was rejected by the club.However the year of 2010-11 saw the appointment of Roy Hudson as the new Liverpool manager and as soon as he was appointed ,there were rumors of Torres’s exit. who was very fond of Torres saw this as an opportunity to sign the Spaniard and launched a bid that was hard to reject for the Liverpool boss.

On January 31st 2011 it was official that Torres was now a part of Chelsea for a reported fee of 58 mill Euros,which was the most expensive signing in the Premier League and the 6th most expensive signing ever in Football. But Torres didn’t have the same dream start at Chelsea as he had at Liverpool. He managed to find the back of the net after 903 minutes of playing in a 3-0 win over West Ham United.

Torres’s next season was almost the same as the first one and Chelsea fans became restless after Torres was not being able to find the back of the net regularly.But he somehow managed to end the season as a Chelsea hero when he scored a goal in a semi final match against FC Barcelona,which saw the defending champions get knocked out and helped Chelsea to progress into the final of the UEFA Champions League 2011-12.

The season of 2012-13 such Torres form improve a lot with the Spaniard scoring 22 goals,double of the no of goals he scored in the 2011-12 season.Much credit of his new form was given to new manager and Torres’s ex Manager Rafael Benitez who knew the Spaniards game in and out.

Internationally, Torres made his debut for the Spain’s senior team on 6th September,2003 against Portugal.His superb form helped him book a place in the national team squad for the 2006 World Cup.He played an important role in Spain’s qualification for World Cup as he was Spain’s top scorer with 7 goals.

He was again called for the Euro 2008 and maintained a good run throughout the tournament which helped him earn a place in the Team of the Tournament.

The World Cup of 2010, saw Torres’s performance below par and had no significant contributions to team as Spain won the World Cup.Torres was again recalled for the EURO 2012 squad and in his first start he managed to score twice in a 4-0 win over Republic of Ireland. TRANSFERS : 

Starting his career at Atletico Madrid in the year 2000. Torres’s perfomance however wasn’t upto his mark  but still was given another chance and he did repay the coach for having faith in him. In his next season Torres netted 13 goals in 29 appearances .The following years saw the no of goals keep on increasing and his form gained the attention of  many big clubs who were ready to splash out the cash to sign the young Spanish striker , including the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

However during his stay at Atletico Madrid,many offers to sign him were rejected with Chelsea’s bids being rejected twice. Finally on 3rd July 2007, it was confirmed that Torres would be moving to Premier League  giants Liverpool for a transfer fee of 23.8 mill Euros.

The season of 2010-11 saw a change in the management of the Liverpool staff an Roy Hodgson was appointed as the new Liverpool manager.As soon as he was appointed ,there were rumors of Torres ready to move to a new club ,which Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich saw as a chance to sign the striker and offered a bid which was hard to reject and finally on 31st January 2011 Torres signed for Chelsea for a reported fee of 58mill Euros making his move the highest signing in Premier League history and the 6th Highest ever signing for a player.
