Menswear Trends: 3.1 Phillip Lim (Camo), E. Tautz (Plaid), Burberry (Animal Print) and Maison Martin Margiela (Rich Burgundy) // Fall 2013 runway photos by Anthea Simms

Embracing this season’s key menswear trends, we rounded up a variety of covetable pieces in rich shades of burgundy and eye-catching animal, camo and plaid prints that will help bring your look to the next level. Getting noticed this fashion week won’t be hard after incorporating the vibrant prints, patterns and colours that were prominent on the fall-winter runways into your autumn ensemble.

Camouflage

In the concrete jungle camouflage-inspired prints will help you stand out (rather then blend-in.) To avoid looking like G.I. Joe, ensure your street fatigues are fashionable by opting for sharply tailored pieces and modern silhouettes. For a fresh take on the trend, take a cue from Phillip Lim and Valentino’s fall runway shows and look for unexpected colour variations and abstract versions of the print.

Plaid

From grungy interpretations of plaid at Saint Laurent and Givenchy, to the more classic approach to tartan seen at E. Tautz and Vivienne Westwood, it’s clear menswear’s longstanding love-affair with the old-school Scottish print is still going strong. You can’t go wrong investing in plaid staple pieces as they make for a rich and warm autumn-ready look that you’ll be sure to go back to time and time again.

Animal Print

Find inspiration from Burberry Prorsum’s runway show and dare to wear leopard-inspired separates for a graphic look this fall. From sleek shoes to bold button-ups, there are plenty of spotted styles to choose from—the trick is to stick to one statement printed piece to add some pizzazz to an otherwise neutral ensemble. Trust us, pull this wild trend off right and you’ll be looking like one cool cat.

As seen on the runways of Calvin Klein, John Galliano and Maison Martin Margiela, designers were thirsting for wine-coloured clothing this fall. The sophisticated shade is perfect for demure men looking for something both classy and cool to wear both to the office and over the weekend.
