TORONTO - If you had just started watching Raptors basketball two days prior you wouldnt have recognized the team that was run out of their own building Friday night. Cris Carter Vikings Jersey . Coming off their most encouraging victory of the season in Memphis Wednesday, the Raptors were out-muscled, out-worked and ultimately out-played against a Chicago Bulls team missing their star point guard. The Bulls - as they tend to do, with or without Derrick Rose - set the tone with their defence in the opening minutes. By the time the buzzer sounded 24 minutes into the contest, the Raptors booed off the floor by their home fans, Toronto had mustered just 31 points on 26 per cent shooting. "Theres nothing redeeming about tonight," said Dwane Casey, who later relented and cited DeMar DeRozan as the lone redeeming spot on the night. "Tonight was one of those stinkers that you have. We were mentally fried, physically fried but this is the NBA [and] theres no excuses. That wasnt us. Weve had stretches like that but not an entire game, the way we were running in mud." DeRozan, just 3-of-9 at the half, caught fire late in the third quarter. He scored 28 of his career-high matching 37 points in the second half, including 19 of the Raptors 21 points during a stretch that extended into the fourth quarter. He couldnt miss, knocking down off-balance jumpers, four three-pointers and crowning Joakim Noah on a tomahawk slam. If it was conceivable for the Raptors guard to bring his team back on his own at that point he may have, he certainly tried. But it was a little too little too late. "I just wanted to win," DeRozan said solemnly after his offensive outburst was wasted in a game that was lost early in the first half. "Thats the only thing. Just looking at the score, I knew it was going to be tough. Its just my passion, just trying to win." "He was the one redeeming spot tonight," Casey eventually acknowledged. "The way he came out in the second half, but its a 48 minute game. Youve got to start the game out that way." First Half Credit the Bulls and their defence for what turned out to be a nightmare of a first half for the Raptors offence. The same team that registered 11 assists and hit 7-of-9 three-point attempts in the first half of Wednesdays game against a quality opponent had just seven dimes and missed all seven shots from long range. The Raptors were routinely pushed around under the rim, as the Bulls front line of Noah, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng got the visitors off to a quick start on both ends of the floor. "You cant allow someone to come in your home and outwork you like that," Casey said. "Its hard to get to the basket on them," DeRozan admitted. "They all load in. Theyre a good defensive team so youve got to find counters and different ways to try and get to the basket." However, the game was lost on the other end, where the Raptors failed to match Chicagos defensive effort. With Rose on the sideline - ruled out prior to the game, nursing a sore right hamstring - the Bulls didnt miss a beat. They moved the ball with precision and shredded Toronto in the paint, outscoring them 26-18. "Mental frustration I think is more than anything else," Casey said. "We allowed them to do that. Youve got to make a team miss. We didnt play with the desperation weve played with this week." Regrouping With five of their next six games at home, the Raptors will benefit from more practice time, something they expect to take advantage of immediately as they return to the gym on Saturday to reflect on this loss. "Its a long season, its a marathon," Casey pointed out. "But its how you bounce back from these types of games that define you." "I dont want to get too overly alarmed because you have those. You have about five or six of those a year but we cant make it a habit." Toronto is back in action at the ACC Sunday afternoon when they host the Portland Trail Blazers. SCHLADMING, Austria -- American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin became the youngest woman in 39 years to win the slalom world title on Saturday, adding a gilded edge to what has already been a breakthrough season for skiings new big star. At the age of 17 years, 340 days, Shiffrin beat all of her more experienced rivals to earn the U.S. Ski Team its fourth gold and fifth medal overall at these world championships, more than any other country. "Its such a crazy day," Shiffrin said. "Its so emotional. ... I dont know yet, I cant feel yet. Its amazing." Shiffrin was third after the opening run but took the lead in the second and then watched Tanja Poutiainen of Finland and Frida Hansdotter of Sweden fail to match her time. Shiffrin finished in a combined time of one minute 39.85, with Michaela Kirchgasser of Austria ending up in second place, 0.22 behind. Hansdotter led after the first run but settled for third, 0.26 back. Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac Etchemin, Que., was 13th, while Erin Mielzynski of Guelph, Ont., was 17th. "This is a big lesson but the biggest races are a year from now (Sochi Olympics)," said Canadian womens coach Hugues Ansermoz. "We need to do some things differently than we did here if we want to have a chance of winning medals in Sochi. We need to be better." Elli Terwiel of Sun Peaks, B.C., was 28th, while Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was 30th. When Hansdotter crossed the line, Shiffrin looked around in disbelief before hugging Kirchgasser several times. Shiffrins parents Jeff and Eileen embraced each other in the stands, both with tears in their eyes. "I keep saying it, I keep thinking it. It doesnt make sense," Shiffrin said when asked how it felt to be world champion. "Its just me." Shiffrin said she was inspired by teammate Ted Ligety, who won the mens super-G, super-combined and GS titles. "Oh yeah. For sure," she said. "I think everyone was. That was amazing." Shiffrin is the youngest womens world champion in any discipline since fellow American Diann Roffe-Steinrotter, who was 21 days younger when she won the giant slalom title in 1985. The only slalom world champions younger than Shiffrin were Hanni Wenzel of Liechtensteinn in 1974 and Esme Mackinnon of Britain in 1931. Cheap Moritz Boehringer Jersey. Shiffrin had already had a season full of milestones, winning three World Cup slaloms to lead the discipline standings. After earning the first victory of her career in Are, Sweden, in December, she became the first American woman to win two World Cup races before the age of 18 by winning in Zagreb, Crotia, in early January. In Flachau, Austria, she added a third victory to match a record set by legend Annemarie Moser-Proell, who in 1971 was exactly the same age of 17 years, 308 days when she won her third of 62 races. In her opening run, Shiffrin wasnt clean at the top and trailed Hansdotter by more than half a second halfway down her run before reducing the deficit to 0.18 at the flat finish. "I was a little bit off balance. I missed a couple of the gates and hit them with my face," said Shriffrin, who finished a career-best sixth in Thursdays GS. Shiffrin said the crowd of about 30,000 people "helped give me some momentum for the bottom." Hansdotter, who finished runner-up to Shiffrin in each of the Americans World Cup wins, once again failed to match the Americans pace in the final run. "I am super happy," Hansdotter said. "I had two good runs and now I have a medal. I wasnt nervous. I have to be happy because I have got a medal." Kirchgasser, who was part of the Austrian team that won gold in the mixed team event Tuesday, earned her first individual medal at a major championship. "Its just great. I thought, all or nothing," said Kirchgasser, who was fourth in the super-combined last week. "I didnt want to end up in fourth again." Olympic slalom champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, who won the super-combined last week, had 0.20 to make up in the final run but straddled a gate and failed to finish. The fans cheered loudly for Marlies Schild on her return less than two months after picking up what initially appeared to be a season-ending injuring knee in December. The World Cup champion hadnt raced since the slalom 83 days ago in Aspen, Colorado, and placed ninth, 1.58 behind Shiffrin.
