If all had gone according to plan, Brooke Henderson would be getting her first start of the LPGA Tour season this week.  Even better, her sister would be joining her as well.

Unfortunately both Smiths Falls golfers fell short at Saturday’s qualifier for the Coates Championship, the season opener for the tour.  Brooke posted a 72 while sister Brittany turned in a 77.

With only two qualifying spots it took a 69 and a 70 to earn a place in the field.  Brooke’s score tied her for third place.

Undeterred both players were spotted at the massive range at Orange County National Golf Club west southwest of Orlando on Monday, grooving their games for the next challenge.

Next up on the LPGA Tour schedule is the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic (Feb 5-8.) and Brooke has indicated she will try and qualify for it.

Sources tell Flagstick that Brooke almost made the field as a sponsors’ exemption but a late decision put  Bahamian Raquel Riley in the field instead.

For the next three days (Jan. 27-29) both Brooke and and Brittany are competing in the SunCoast Ladies Tour event at West Orange Country Club near Orlando. It is the first start of 2015 for each of the pros.

Brittany was a winner on that tour in 2014.

Ontario golfer Nicole Vandermade is also in the field.

Brooke and Brittany each shot even par, 71, in the opening round to take the lead.  They have a one stroke lead over Big Break contestant Tessa Teachman and five time LPGA Tour winner Maria Hjorth.
