Aloha all!

First of all, I’ll get the terrible news out of the way… Retro Jordan’s set to rise in price by $10 in Spring 14, bringing their base price to $170… How much farther can Nike push our buttons?!?!?! It seems safe to say that the sneaker culture has grown to attach an extremely unstoppable plethora of (self-implied) appreciators, which is why I feel JB keeps rising prices… I honestly have mixed feelings of not being able to go about a day without running into someone making a silly comment or half attempt at a compliment on what’s on my feet, while shunning any elitist attributes within me. I just want to appreciate sneakers as I’ve always done, but the game is tainted. Doesn’t anyone miss the days of wearing some shit that nobody else can pinpoint what it exactly is? True heads, stay loyal to the foundation! With that being said, I’m excited to announce that this post will be introducing the first “OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS INTERVIEW” (below). It is my pleasure to share my genuine, sneaker-loving friends and acquaintances, whom I feel may have an interesting story to tell. All these individuals are the glue for the true sneaker community… Enjoy.

Nike SB Dunk Low X Brooklyn Projects “Walk of Fame”

Dope video… Not their best SB project in my eyes though.

Adidas Originals Oregon Ultra Tech OG

The same great quality in a beautiful color way on a classic shoe. Approve.

Nike Zoom Revis X DJ Clark Kent “112″

Awww shiii…. I’ve always loved the Volt, 3M, and Elephant Print combo of the 112 pack! Maybe it’s time to hunt for the few I need to complete the set…

Shawn Yue X New Balance MRL996 Revlite Collection

A high model in the New Balance line equals amazing comfort. Add ill color ways and you’re set… Very clean job Shawn Yue.

Nike Air Zoom Flight ’89 “The Glove”

I’m sure all you old heads remember these… Seen a few new color ways pop up recently, but none as clean as this. Classic.

Nike Free Flyknit

Flyknit! Flyknit! Flyknit! Keep innovating, Nike!

Air Max 1, Dunk Hi, & Dunk Low Elephant Print option on Nike iD

Have fun.

Nike Air Jordan I – Black/Red

Finally confirmed for release later this year! I NEED.

Nike WMNS Air Max Thea QS – Black/Sail

Why can’t they just make these in men’s sizing already?! I’ve always thought these were such an ill silhouette! Lady luck.

OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS Interview: Mayor Ron | Hawaii Sneakerheads

Name:

Ronald Cabuhat

Nickname / AKA:

Mayor

Shoe size:

11

Occupation:

Super Dad

How many years I’ve been in an affair with sneakers:

Since I was 6 years old, I would re-up on Adidas Shell toes with a pair of Fat Laces, Black Puma Suede classics with fat laces, and Nike Cortez also with fat laces. Those sneakers were my favorite everyday beaters.

How many pairs I own:

Not as much as My homie JJ Parkz, thats for sure!

Amazing sneaker-related story:

In 1991, it took me very long to save up for my first pair of basketball shoes, Black “Dee Brown” Reebok Pumps. I was super happy! I remember when I first walked into kids foot locker Ala Moana and Gary (presently the store manager at Ala Moana House of Hoops) helped me get my pair. This was when Kids Foot Locker was located downstairs on the 1st floor by the old Slipper House.. Super OG times

Holy Grail and why:

2000 Space Jams because my homie JoJo Raquel of @808grails (creator of the grail box) hooked me up for $175 DS .. Everything was in such good condition; The box and tissue was still in place. I wanted them since i was a freshman in high school, but i couldnt afford em at the time. Im so glad I had another chance to get em brand new 13 years later.

Most despised footwear and why:

Lugz.. haha… Because it “Fugz” up my feet while I was in middle school.. My Momz wouldn’t hook me up for another shoe until I beat em up to death… Imagine my pain.. LOL

Currently hunting for:

Nike Foamposite Pro “Dr. Doom” and Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Solar Red”

Changes or surprises I’m hoping for in the sneaker world:

I am hoping for a better system on how to purchase shoes, both online and in stores. I want our local stores to be more prepared with new releases. I feel sorry for people (including myself) who can’t get any strong info on releases. People camp out for hours, or even days before the release date, only to find out there’s only a few sizes available, a very few amount of pairs, the most common sizes are unavailable (go figure), or their shipment did not come in at all!!!! I hope for a better change for online and in store system. It will be a BIG surprise when I see exact availability of sizes and pairs posted on their websites and in stores. This will help people to not be frustrated and waste there time in line.
