Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 2-3 vs. Tacoma Rainiers

Full Box Score

Ed Lucas, 2B: 2-for-4, 1 2B, 1 SO
Jeff Mathis, C: 1-for-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 BB, 4 SO

Brian Flynn, SP: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 SO
Dan Jennings, RP: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 SO

Jeff Mathis earned a golden sombrero, while hitting his second home run of the year. He is expected to replace Kyle Skipworth in Miami shortly.

Brian Flynn was the star of the show yesterday. After walking six batters in his last start, Flynn demonstrated much improved control, throwing 71 of 97 pitches for strikes. His nine strikeouts represent a season high.

New Orleans eventually lost in the thirteenth inning when shortstop Nick Franklin hit his fourth home run of the season. The switch-hitting Franklin is one of the youngest players in the Pacific Coast League. Baseball America ranked him as the fifth best prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization.

Full Box Score

Jake Marisnick, LF: 2-for-4, 1 2B
Kyle Jensen, RF: 3-for-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 BB
Jacob Realmuto, C: 1-for-3, 1 2B, 2 BB

Jay Jackson, SP: 1.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO, 1 HR

Kyle Jensen's monster night raised his season line to .243/.371/.452. That number may sound respectable, but Jensen hit .234/.338/.452 in the Southern League last year, and he's already 24 years old. He needs to build on this success and force a promotion to Triple-A soon if he wants to maintain his prospect status.

Full Box Score

Jesus Solorzano, RF: 0-for-4, 2 SO
Cody Keefer, LF: 2-for-3, 1 BB, 1 SO

Austin Brice, SP: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR

Cody Keefer reached base three times, raising his season line to .250.308/.396. The 22-year-old outfielder batted .322/400/.417 in short-season ball last year. Any kind of production from Keefer would be a great success for the Marlins, considering the fact that he was drafted in the 15th round.

The UCLA graduate possesses a decent hit tool, although his path to the majors will be complicated by his lack of range in center field. He likely won't be able to hit enough to make it as a left-fielder.
