Hunger is no laughing matter. IB members Noble McIntyre and David Bernstein take the matter seriously by annually working to help feed hungry Oklahomans each holiday season — and this year is no exception.
For the fourth-straight year, McIntyre and Bernstein are distributing turkeys and food boxes to more than 5,000 families across Oklahoma through their joint initiative, Lawyers Fighting Hunger, a nonprofit that provides food to the less fortunate.
As co-founders of Lawyers Fighting Hunger, McIntyre and Bernstein are devoted to helping feed hungry families. Over the past few months, they’ve worked with attorneys, professionals, doctors, businesses and individuals to help raise money and collect other Thanksgiving fixings for the event.
“For us, it’s about more than just handing out turkeys,” says McIntyre, senior partner and owner, McIntyre Law. “It’s about our community, and our community is its people. When we see people coming out for this event, knowing that they will be going home with food that will fill their stomachs and their hearts—well, that’s what it’s all about. Hunger is a big problem in Oklahoma; whatever we can do to take away even a small bit of that pain for families in need is worth every penny.”
This year’s event will be hosted in five different locations throughout Oklahoma—Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, El Reno and Mustang. The Regional Food Bank will once again assist in purchasing the turkeys and storing them in a truck with a freezer.
Last year, the nonprofit raised enough money to distribute turkeys and food boxes to more than 4,000 families across the state.
To reach even more families this year, McIntyre and Bernstein have both donated $5,000, and challenge others to donate $25, $50, $100, $250, $500 or $1,000 to help a hungry family this Thanksgiving.
This year, turkeys will be distributed as follows:
Oklahoma City: Registration and distribution will occur at the offices of McIntyre Law on Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.
Norman: Registration and distribution will occur at the law office of David Bernstein on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m.
El Reno: Registration and distribution will occur at the El Reno Fire Department on Nov. 22 at 11 a.m.
Tulsa: Registration and distribution will occur at the Iron Gate Ministries on Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m.
Mustang: Registration and distribution will at the Mustang Fire Department on Nov. 25 at 11 a.m.
