Local fireman Christopher Eugene Hill died at his home recently in Hanover, Pa. after a battle with cancer. He was 46.

Hill was a member of the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department and IAFF Local 1619. He is survived by his 9-year-old daughter Amy Grace and 5-year-old son Evan Christopher, as well as his wife Jennifer, according to a statement from the Prince George’s County Fire Department.

Hill served with the United States Army in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, and then transitioned to service with the Naval District Washington Fire Department and Baden Volunteer Fire Department. He joined the Prince George’s County Career Fire/EMS in 2002, finishing his career as a lieutenant in Forestville.

“Chris cherished his wife and his children,” the statement added. “With numerous back yard soccer games, RV adventures and family movie nights, the Hill’s enjoyed their time together. Even after Chris’ unfortunate diagnosis, He felt being close to family was most important for Jen and the kids. He then began the process of moving from Maryland to Pennsylvania. Chris enjoyed a short few months in their new home before passing away.”

Hill will receive full military honors and a line of duty death funeral service, as his form of cancer was considered occupational and service-related.
