US banks and credit unions modernise core tech

Kansas-based banking software developer, Data Centre Inc (DCI), has signed a new client, The First National Bank in Falfurrias, Texas. Jack Henry’s Symitar division has completed a core conversion at Sun East Federal Credit Union in Pennsylvania.

The First National Bank will replace its legacy Fiserv’s Premier core processing system with DCI’s iCore360. Banking Technology understands the bank went through a system selection, evaluating the incumbent provider and DCI.

“DCI won based on our technology and customer service,” says the vendor’s spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Sun East FCU has gone live with Episys, Symitar’s core processing platform. The solution was deployed onsite.

Episys ousted the legacy system that had been at the bank for nearly 30 years.

“Over time, the credit union needed more from its provider in both technology advancements and the ability to integrate with complementary solutions,” Symitar says.

Banking Technology understands the new contract was signed in mid-2015.

“Symitar knows where the market is going and appears to always be one step ahead; if it’s not available now, the team is working on it,” comments Michael Kaczenski, CEO of Sun East FCU.

“We saw Episys as our gateway to greater efficiency, and to keeping up with what our members want out of their primary financial relationship.”

Kaczenski also flags the ease of system configuration. With some other vendors the credit union considered, the level of customisation it wanted would have been “a cost and resource strain”.

“With Episys, even employees outside IT are able to personalise the system around our processes and policy,” he states. “The overall intuitiveness is allowing us to build a culture of consultative service for our members.”
