Description of the EVS hosting organization
The “Working on Technology Education Sports” project cultivates and advances new technologies and work on their joining with the Education, Culture and Sports. The volunteer helps on a non-profit procedure and understands how to use computers and educational programs effectively and in a positive way. He/she is also taking active part in the realization of recordings, sound mixing, interviews, news and anything that has to do with our organization’s EVS Internet Radio web site http://www.chiosradio.gr.
The EVS volunteer deals with the development of projects in educational, cultural, sports and scientific level helps unemployed people to learn and use and realize projects with educational, youth and sport organizations, teachers, students and young people with the help of W.W.W or New Technologies.
The project also focus on the creation of Cultural and Educational “New Technologies” projects, like Web pages, DVD’s, Videos and Sport activities, offering to young people who live in Chios Island and to the Europeans information about many subjects.
The volunteer will offer to the young people in Chios Island the possibility to open new horizons.
It is really important for the youngsters who live in an isolated place like Chios Island, to have information about the opportunities they have, to work with new technologies, to open discussions about this and help them.
The Young Voluntary workers undertake to participate voluntarily in an active citizen and informative experience with the aim of acquiring social, intercultural and personal skills, working with different kind of computer software, taking part in the preparation, realization and evaluation of Educational, Sport, Cultural and other projects and at the same contribute to the well-being of the community. After learning basic Greek, the volunteers will be able to inform the young Greek people, especially the people with fewer opportunities, about the actions of the “Youth in action” Program.

Tasks of the EVS volunteers
a) Our Internet Radio (35%). The European Volunteers will make their own contribution for the development and realization of recordings, sound mixing, interviews, news and anything that has to do with our organization’s EVS Internet Radio web site http://www.chiosradio.gr. As a conclusion, everything that is done will be under discussion and an evaluation will take place.
b) Computer programs (35%). One of the main activities of the Volunteers is to take active part in the realization of Non-profit making Educational, Sports and Cultural programs and Presentations (e.g. a cultural Web Site about an Aegean Island, a web site about program “Youth” or about Young people’s problems, etc. A very important aim for us is to give them the opportunity to come closer to New Technologies, learn and develop creative projects through practical and theoretical exchange of knowledge and feel free to express themselves, and gain knowledge that will help them for all their life. The working computers are on-line connected with R-admin program with the Mentor and the responsible of the project.
c) Computer cooperation (20%) one other basic activity is to work on the use of the Computers -software and basic information terminology- and cooperate with the other EVS volunteers participating in the Institutes work groups.
d) Inspiration (10%) One other activity is to help in the organization and realization of Youth programs, Youth Events, Sport (sailing) School activities (in a primary school) and other youth activities. The Volunteers will help in texts translation from English or Greek to their mother language, will also participate in other social activities developed by T.E.S. such as in the preparation of many web sites, go and help the children at the Sailing team or at the Swimming pool.
e) Our Place (10%). The volunteers will help us keep our Institute and hosting place in order (electronic and other equipment), gardening, etc.
Criteria
We are not interested on high qualifications, millions of certificates, presidents of organizations, queens or kings. We are usually selecting positive and creative young people ready to “offer” some months of their life on learning a lot in cooperation with our people and other volunteers and offer their time on the realization of New Technologies, Educational, Cultural and Sport projects. The suitable volunteer is a person who don’t need 5 stars accommodation, privacy and comforts, but a person who has as priority on learning, cooperating and living with European young people. The suitable volunteer is a person who looks the glass “half full” instead of “half empty”. It would be good if the young person is interested and willing to work for many hours with our (off line) radio station and (maybe) he/she has some experience in this.
Procedure
The selection is a privilege of the present volunteers of the project in cooperation with the youth workers and the mentors and the partner (sending) organization. The volunteers are writing one E-mail to the Hosting organization ( info@tes.gr ) and they are requesting a Questionnaire. The hosting organization receives the questionnaire, the CV and some color photos of the volunteer and forwards them to the present EVS volunteers. The present EVS volunteers are reading the information and selecting the suitable candidates. After the selection, the present volunteers are doing an interview with the candidates and they are asking and receiving questions, explaining the project (from their eyes). After, the present EVS volunteers are proposing to the council of the organization the 3 candidates who (in their opinion) fit to our project. The council decides about the finalists and informs (only) the finalists by E-mail or telephone.
