Features of Comprehensive Travel Insurance from WorldCare
The WorldCare Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy is the highest level of cover you can take out with WorldCare and it will be there to help you in a medical emergency, lost luggage emergency and in case of illness or injury. The features of the comprehensive travel insurance policy from WorldCare don’t leave anything to chance and include:
Cancellation fee and lost deposit cover. WorldCare will pay the cancellation fees and lost deposits you incur for travel and accommodation arrangements paid for in advance, if you are forced to cancel or shorten your journey because of circumstances outside of your control. If you are not able to recover cancellation fees and lost deposits through other avenues, WorldCare will reimburse you for up to $1,500 of travel agent cancellation fees on a single policy, $1,500 per person on a couples policy and up to $3,000 with a family policy. You will also be paid for any lost rewards points you may have used to purchase airline tickets that were then cancelled.
Overseas emergency medical assistance. You are protected by the Allianz Global Assistance program through your WorldCare travel insurance, which will be on hand to help with any medical emergency you experience while overseas. You can contact Allianz Global Assistance 24/7/365 and call on a medical adviser for:
Emergency medical treatment
Getting messages to your family or employer back home to inform them of the emergency situation
Cover for reasonable emergency hospital expenses
Your transfer or evacuation to Australia and the return of your dependents to Australia if they are unsupervised when you are hospitalised
Your WorldCare Comprehensive Travel Insurance also covers the reasonable cost of a funeral or cremation overseas and/or the cost to bring your remains home, up to the value of $15,000 per person insured.
Overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses. You are covered for the reasonable medical or hospital expenses you incur until you are able to return to Australia, if you are injured or ill overseas. You must make every effort to keep your medical or hospital expenses to a minimum and to be eligible for reimbursement the expenses must have been taken on the advice of a medical professional. If WorldCare determines that you should return to Australia for treatment and you refuse, you will be responsible for any ongoing or additional costs outside of the advice of your insurer. This feature includes up to $500 cover per person for emergency dental treatment.
Additional expenses. You can be reimbursed for reasonable accommodation and travel expenses you incur if you are unable to follow your original travel plans because of illness or injury requiring immediate treatment. Eligible expenses must be due to immediate treatment from a medical adviser who has certified that you are unfit to travel. You are also covered in case your travelling companion is unable to travel because of illness or injury. You can also claim for the accommodation and travelling expenses of a relative or travelling companion to stay near or escort you if you are in the hospital, or evacuated for medical reasons. If you have to cut your trip short, you will be reimbursed for the cost of your return to Australia, in the same travel class as you had planned to travel. You can also claim for an early return home if a travelling companion or relative dies unexpectedly, suffers a disabling injury or becomes seriously ill and is hospitalised, except if any of these situations are the result of a preexisting condition. You will also be reimbursed for the airfares to return to the point where your journey was interrupted.
Hospital cash allowance. If you are hospitalised for more than 48 hours continuously while you are overseas, you will be able to claim a benefit of $50 per day hospital cash allowance.
Accidental death benefit. A death benefit will be paid to your estate or beneficiaries if you are injured during your journey and die within 12 months as a result of said injury. A claim for accidental death benefit can also be made if something you are travelling on during your journey disappears, sinks or crashes, you are presumed dead and your body is not recovered within 12 months.
Permanent disability benefit. You will receive a permanent disability benefit from your WorldCare Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy if you are injured during your journey and suffer a permanent disability as a result, within 12 months. Permanent disability is defined by WorldCare as, the total loss of sight in one or both eyes, or the loss of the use of one hand at or above the wrist or one foot at or above the ankle. The loss must be for at least 12 months and is expected to continue indefinitely according to an approved medical specialist.
Domestic services. If you become disabled as the result of an injury you suffer on your journey, you can be reimbursed up to $50 per day to contribute to housekeeping services, to help you with duties you are unable to perform yourself.
Lost income benefit. If you become disabled within 30 days of an injury you suffered while travelling and this disablement continues for more than 30 days after your return to Australia, you can claim a benefit of $400 per person, per week for up to 26 weeks. You are eligible for this benefit if you are unable to do your normal work, or any suitable alternative work and you lose your entire income.
Lost or stolen travel documents, transaction cards or travellers cheques. If your essential travel documents, credit cards, debit cards, travel money cards or travellers cheques are lost or stolen on your journey you are covered by your travel insurance if you report the theft as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after the event. You must report the theft or loss to the police and notify the card issuer of the loss of credit cards, debit cards, travel money cards and travellers cheques.
Stolen cash. You will be reimbursed the value of cash, bank notes, currency notes, postal orders or money orders that are stolen from your person while you are travelling.
Lost, stolen or damaged luggage and personal effects. You can claim for the repair cost or for the value of any luggage and personal items that are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged during your journey. The amount paid will be calculated based on depreciation of items, as determined by WorldCare insurance, who will not pay more than the original purchase price of an item. The maximum amount you can claim is $3,000 for personal computers, $1,000 for mobile phones, PDAs and other items with phone capabilities, and $750 for all other unspecified items.
Delay of luggage and personal effects. You can claim the cost of purchasing essential clothing and other personal items if your luggage is delayed, misdirected or misplaced. Reimbursable expenses must be the result of a delay of more than 12 hours.
Travel delays. Reimburses you for reasonable additional meal and accommodation expenses if your journey is delayed for more than six hours due to circumstances outside of your control. You will be able to claim for up to $200 at the end of the initial six hour delay and up to $200 for each full 24 hour period after the initial delay.
Alternative transport. If you need to make alternative transport arrangements because of delays outside of your control, you can be reimbursed for travel costs incurred in getting you to a wedding, funeral, conference, sporting event or prepaid tour arrangement.
Personal liability cover. Your travel insurance will cover your legal liability for compensation as the result of death or bodily injury, or physical loss of or damage to property, as the result of an accident.
Rental vehicle cover. Your WorldCare comprehensive travel plan will pay the rental vehicle excess you incur as the result of damage or theft of a rental vehicle. You can also claim for up to $1,000 of costs to return the vehicle to the rental depot if you are certified by a medical adviser as being unfit to do so.
Domestic pets. If you have boarded your domestic cat or dog while you travel, your comprehensive cover from WorldCare includes a benefit for additional kennel or cattery fees incurred if your return home is delayed for an eligible event. You can claim $25 for each 24 hour period you are delayed. You can also claim for vet charges incurred while you are away.
