Enjoy your overseas trips without the sting of high ATM withdrawal fees.

The NAB Traveller Card is a product which doesn’t charge you for checking your balance or withdrawing funds when overseas. You also don’t pay foreign transaction fees when you spend or use currencies you’ve already loaded onto your card, meaning you could enjoy a fee-free holiday.

The Traveller Card gives you the opportunity to load up to ten popular currencies onto your card and then spend them with the security and flexibility of a regular credit or debit card. Read on to find out more about how the Traveller Card works.

Apart from the currencies on offer, the next most important comparison factor for many are the fees charged.

The NAB Traveller card does not charge fees when making an overseas ATM withdrawal or balance check. It also doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees when making a purchase using a currency loaded onto the card.

The NAB Traveller Card has low fees for many of the transactions you’ll make. As you can see above in the table above, there are some fees which are charged when using this card.

These fees include:

Security

One of the main strengths of a travel card is that it has added security when compared to a credit or debit card. It has a security chip and PIN on it which gives you additional protection when making payments, and isn’t linked to any of your accounts back home.

This means even if someone gets access to your card, they’ll be hard pressed to do any major damage and clear out your regular savings or credit accounts.

In addition, NAB provides emergency assistance if you lose your card or if it’s stolen, and this is available at any time of the day or week.

You’ll also get a backup card, which can be used in the event that something happens to your first card. Even if this backup card is lost or stolen too, NAB will send you a replacement card free-of-charge.

Loading and reloading the Traveller Card

The initial loading of funds onto this card must be carried out at an NAB branch, with the minimum load amount being $50 .

Once you’ve made your first load you can then continue to reload at an NAB branch, online or on the phone with BPAY.

To load at a branch you’ll need to bring valid photo ID, and the amount loaded onto your card will be available within four business hours.

If you choose to load your card over the phone or online through BPAY it’ll take two business days to appear in your card. BPAY reloads will require you to set up your card as a preferred biller before you travel.

You can manage your account by logging onto the NAB Traveller Card ‘My Account’ tool. Here you can also swap money between currencies. You can also do this by calling NAB.

The NAB Traveller Card is valid for five years.

Applying for the NAB Traveller Card

To get an NAB Traveller Card you’ll need to apply. Bring in any money you want to pre-load initially or transfer money from your NAB transaction account and you can walk out with your new card. The card will be activated in a few hours.
