4K is this year’s 3D or curved display, a meagre excuse for many to go out and spend unreasonable amounts of money on the 'latest and greatest' television. The only problem with purchasing a 4K Smart TV is that you’re going to actually need content available in Ultra High Definition to notice a difference. Here at finder.com.au, we’ve already discussed everything you need to stream 4K and how to speed up your broadband connection, but what kind of content is available in 4K streaming and is it worth the price jump?

The Blacklist

Raymond Reddington (James Spader), a mysterious career criminal on the FBI’s most wanted list, surrenders himself to the FBI. Over the years he has accumulated information on the world’s top criminals and offers the aid the FBI in exchange for immunity, under one condition, he gets the chance to work with rookie profiler, Elizabeth Keene (Megan Boone).

Starring James Spader, Megan Boone, and Diego Klattenhoff

Bloodline

The Rayburn family's’ darkest secrets rise to the surface when the oldest son and black sheep of the family, Danny Rayburn, arrives home. The beautiful Florida keys is the backdrop for this scandal-fueled family drama that features notable performances by leads Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendelsohn (as the estranged older brother, Danny) and screen veterans Sissy Spacek and Sam Shepard.

Starring Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn and Linda Cardellini

Watch if… you enjoyed Mendelsohn's Aussie family drama, Animal Kingdom

Chef’s Table

Chef’s Table explores the lives of six international chefs, each with a unique style and story to tell. Every episode centres on a new chef and provides a deeply emotional view of their talents, passion and hardships.  The four chefs featured in season 1 are Dan Barber (chef and co-owner of Blue Hill), Francis Mallman (eccentric chef and grillmaster from Argentina), Massimo Bottura (Italian restaurateur and chef patron of Osteria Francescana ) and Ben Shewry (The New-Zealand born chef and owner of Australia’s “best restaurant”, Attica).

Starring Ben Shewry, Francis Mallman, Dan Barber and Massimo Bottura

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Set during the 43rd year of the Qing Dynasty, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon follows Li Mu Bai (Yun-Fat Chow), an accomplished Wudang swordsman, and fellow warrior, Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh) on their pursuit for a stolen sword and an infamous fugitive. Ang Lee’s masterpiece as gone down as one of the most visually striking films to ever hit the big screen, and now, in 4K, it’s more vibrant than ever.

Starring Yun-Fat Chow, Michelle Yeoh, Ziyi Zhang

Godzilla

Michael Bay cops a lot of flack for his explosion fetish, but Roland Emmerich is just as bad, if not worse. In his much-maligned adaptation of Godzilla, Emmerich crushed just about every colossal structure he could think of, including buildings, bridges and boats. And what better way to see this devastation than in 4K? Granted you still have to put up with Matthew Broderick’s insanely boring “worm guy” protagonist (though, protagonist hardly feels like the right word for it… Let’s just say he’s in the movie more than others).

Starring Matthew Broderick, Maria Pitillo, Jean Reno and half of The Simpsons voice cast (Harry Shearer and Hank Azaria).

Grace and Frankie

Hollywood legends Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin star in this lighthearted comedy from the co-creator of Friends. When Grace and Frankie are invited to lunch by their husbands, they expect the two successful divorce lawyers (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) to announce their retirement. However, when the announcement doesn’t go quite as expected and the two husbands confess their love for each other, Grace and Frankie’s comfortable lives are uprooted. It’s an interesting concept that lends itself well to the comedic talents of both Fonda and Tomlin. And as one Netflix’s latest in-house productions (which have all been stellar)  you know it’s worth the watch.

Starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen

Marco Polo

Intrigue, greed, betrayal and sexual intrigue. Marco Polo is outwardly Starz attempt to capture some that Game of Thrones magic. But this is nothing new and has been attempted by nearly every network in the past.

Marco Polo follows the titular character through his early years in the Yuan Dynasty where he meets the Khagan of the Mongol Empire, Kublai Khan.

As the titular merchant would, the trailer sells Marco Polo as a no-holds-barred rampage through the Yuan Dynasty with plenty of twists and turns along the way. However, once you dig a little deeper under the surface you’ll find that this historical tale has little to offer and ultimately fails to engage.

Starring Lorenzo Richelmy, Benedict Wong, Joan Chen and Rick Yune

Marvel’s Daredevil

Wait! Don’t turn and run, this is not Ben Affleck’s Daredevil from 2003, we wouldn’t do that to you (though that is available on Netflix Australia). This is Marvel’s Daredevil the new Netflix series starring Charlie Cox as the man without fear himself and Vincent D'onofrio as the villainous real-estate mogul, Kingpin– and in our opinion, one of the best comic-book adaptations to hit the small screen.Charlie Cox is brutal and unrelenting as the vision-impaired pugilist, Daredevil, and D’onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) is the most likable villain of recent memory (and an excellent cook!).

Charlie Cox is brutal and unrelenting as the vision-impaired pugilist, Daredevil, and D’onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) is the most likable villain of recent memory (and an excellent cook!).

Charlie Cox’s fight scenes are so intense you’ll find yourself wincing as he and his targets are beaten to a pulp and as the series progresses and the minor pacing issues are life behind, the stakes are constantly raised, creating more than enough drama to keep you tethered to the screen until the epic season finale.

Starring Charlie Cox, Vincent D'onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson

Moving Art: Oceans, Deserts, Flowers and Forests

Moving Art is a series of blissfully shot Ultra High definition videos that essentially transform your dull Smart TV into a motion artwork. Capturing the beauty of nature in a variety of settings including the Redwood Coast, Olympic National Park and the Four Corners region. Filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg uses time-lapse photography and underwater shots to capture some of the most breathtaking scenes nature has to offer. Throw this one on for some background scenery when you’re entertaining some pals.

Sense8

Sense8 is an upcoming sci-fi series for Netflix that should have you excited. Written and produced by Babylon 5 creator, J. Michael Straczynski, and possibly the most powerful sibling duo on the big screen, The Wachowskis.

Sense8 follows the lives of eight strangers from across the globe who, after a tragic death, find themselves telepathically linked. Each “sensate” sets out to discover exactly what has happened to them. Along the way they’ll be helped by a mysterious sensate from another 'cluster', Jonas (Lost’s Naveen Andrews), and hunted by a stranger known only as Mr Whispers and his shady organisation. And best of all, the entire series will be released in Ultra HD when it hits our screens in June.

Starring Jamie Clayton, Max Riemelt and Anupam Kher
