Click Frenzy are a series of massive online sales events which are held to coincide with the major shopping periods throughout the calendar year. These include Christmas, End of Financial Year, along with Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day. The first Click Frenzy was held on November 20, 2012 and saw good results for both Australian consumers and online retailers. The website received so much traffic that the Click Frenzy website actually crashed, making it difficult for users to find the discounted offers available.

Click Frenzy have invested further into their platform and have partnered with Akamai to ensure that future shoppers don’t experience these server problems. Interestingly, despite the setbacks, IBM have measured there to be 37% more sales made from the November 2012 Click Frenzy than during the famous Boxing Day sales. Australians certainly are transitioning to purchasing products online, and with fantastic deals and discounts offered during such sales events, it is easy to understand why. So, will you be joining in on the next Click Frenzy?

Who is Click Frenzy and How Was is Formed?

Click Frenzy is powered by The Media Pad, who are well known for publishing Power Retail, a large online retail community. The concept comes from the original Cyber Monday sales which run in the United States. Cyber Monday is the held on the Monday following Thanksgiving Day and was established to help online retailers partake in the largest shopping day for those located in the US, Black Friday. Cyber Monday runs for 24 hours and offers incredible deals from online retailers, and the sales it generates are growing tremendously.

Based upon this success, the idea of Australian equivalent was born, Click Frenzy. For 24 amazing hours, customers can access phenomenal sales and discounts across a huge range of products from some of Australia’s largest retailers. Customers can narrow down what they are looking to purchase by selecting to view offers by category or alternatively, by searching for a particular brand or product name. This online sales event truly does change the face of the internet in Australia for 24 hours.

Click Frenzy in the Media

The original click frenzy received an enormous amount of media coverage, being promoted in the news by Australia’s free to air television stations, along with coverage in newspapers. Several well known retailers including Dell, Myer, Priceline and Target joined in to offer great deals specifically for the sales period through their eCommerce websites.

Are the Major Australian Retailers Embracing Click Frenzy?

It appears as though their is a mixed view on the worthwhileness of the online sales offering. Several of Australia’s largest retailers have been seen to boycott the event and some have gone even further. Harvey Norman launched it’s own sale - Shop Frenzy - which has coincided with prior Click Frenzy events. Similar moves have also been seen from David Jones who have run offers including 20 percent discounts when you spend a certain amount, along with Apple and David Jones who also launched rival sales.

Pros of buying during Click Frenzy June 2013

Get access to the best deals from major retail brands that often don't discount their prices

It is very convenient having a list of some of the best sales on offer in one convenient location

Other retailers who are not part of Click Frenzy may be running their own sales at the same time in order to provide another option for consumers looking for a deal

There is often a great selection of offers and at very good prices making it a good time of year to consider things like buying birthday presents, Fathers Day gifts, Mothers Day gifts and even doing some Christmas shopping for friends and family.

Cons of buying during Click Frenzy June 2013

The retailers are only all revealed at the last moment meaning you may not have enough time to do a price comparison to see how good the deals on offer are

The website may crash and you could spend a lot of time trying to access the website in order to get the special deal on offer

Making a decision to buy something in a short time frame could influence you to spend beyond your means and accumulate debt on your credit card or spend too much of your savings

It is difficult to determine prior to the sale whether or not the particular retailer or brand you are interested in is offering special deals on their entire range, a single product or across their entire store.

How to make the most of the End of Financial Year Click Frenzy Sale

Do a price comparison: Once you select an item you are interested in make sure you do a price comparison to check whether or not the item on sale is truly a bargain. You can use a price comparison website or even just Google in order to find out the best prices for the product you are interested in. Your research may show that infact the product never sells at full retail price so it's important you do a comparison.

When doing your calculations be sure to factor in shipping and postage costs: It's important that you take in to account all the costs of buying the product online. Some online stores charge for postage & handling and this could negate a lot of the benefit of the discounted price.

If you are buying a gift for a special day, be sure to check delivery dates: The product you are planning to buy may not be avaialble within the timeframe you need it by so it's important you check the delivery date prior to placing an order

Make sure you spend within your means: If you plan to spend on your credit card the rule of thumb is to only pay what you can afford to repay in the interest free days period which is up to 55 days on many credit cards. It's important you understand how interest free days work and also exactly how much interest you will be charged if you fail to make full repayment for your item within the statement period and on time.
