Are Boxing Day sales on furniture worth it?
This will depend on what you want and where you buy it from. The key to making Boxing Day sales work for you is doing your research and being vigilant about what you want and how much you’re willing to pay for it.
Boxing Day sales are a good excuse for retailers to attract customers to stores to sell off any overstock or out-of-season stock quickly, and sometimes this can make their deals seem larger than what they really are. That being said, there really ARE sales happening on Boxing Day and if you want to bag a bargain, it’s a great time to do so.
Just remember, these are items for your home, so don’t go snapping up something because it’s “cheap”. Before the sales start, write a list of what you need to update in your home and what kind of look, colour and function you want for it as well as your budget for it. If you don’t find it at the Boxing Day sales, it’s OK -- there are plenty of sales going on during the year and it’s better that you don’t buy something you’ll regret or will look “odd” in your home than buying something that does for a steal.
Which bricks and mortar stores do we predict will be having sales?
Department stores like David Jones, Myer, oo.com.au and DealsDirect are notorious for hosting Boxing Day sales across most of their departments. Last year, David Jones featured a clearance sale both in-store and online while Myer offered up to 75% off select items. DealsDirect and oo.com.au similarly sported up to 50% off deals across select items. It’s been predicted on Gumtree that this year David Jones will be offering discounts on whitegoods and up to 50% off on fashion and Brosa is already hosting a sale that will run through to the end of December that can save you up to $500 on orders of $4000 or more.

What furniture items do people typically buy on Boxing Day?
Boxing Day is a great excuse to spruce up your home with new furniture and a more modern look. Typically, Australians will snap up what brand names they can that are on sale and aren’t averse to purchasing homewares and linen on the day.
In terms of furniture, it’s a good time of the year for purchasing new homes or moving home, so basic furniture and appliances are sought after. This can include, washing machines, fridges, furniture packages, pots and pans and outdoor settings.
Updating office furniture is also popular during this time of the year, particularly in the lead up to the start of a new working year.
How much do people typically save?
