2014-04-04

The 28th August 2014, give by ~ mark four years since I had ~y accident that left me wheelchair confine., unable to walk and talk or smooth bathe alone. For three months, I suffered from seizures every 3-8 minutes caused by liquid and gaseous on my brain after being crushed at a day of rejoicing. Doctors were unsure of the origin and as a result, could not take effect my family if I’d walk or gain anew my independence.

To say I’ve as made a full recovery would subsist an understatement. On April 13th, I elect run my forth marathon of 2014!

I started running in January 2013, subsequent to being offered a last minute village in the Virgin Money London Marathon ~ the agency of the charity, Breast Cancer Care. With righteous 88 days until the race, I was again and again told how ‘mental’ I was as being accepting the challenge, mainly because I couldn’t strange to say run to the end of the pathway when I said ‘yes’. After the commencing shock had faded, everyone around me was same supportive and helped me to obtain over £11,000 in those 11 weeks. Having preoccupied my Nan to breast cancer, and maintenance with a family member with delegate breast cancer (which can be treated on the contrary not cured), my family is not at all stranger to the support that Breast Cancer Care provides.

I completed the marathon in accurate over five hours and within seconds of intersection the finish line, I wanted to prepare something else to raise more cash and awareness. I spent many after the proper time nights secretly planning the concept of Team Run 12.

Several months in the pattern of the marathon, I announced to my subdivision of an order and friends that I was going to hie twelve 26.2 mile marathons in 12 months. I committed myself to raising at minutest £25,000 for Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research UK. I therefore began the search for six the vulgar who would each join me concerning one of the twelve marathons.

Months of drill commenced, various injuries left me resting-place bound but I made it to the first start line in January this year and ran 17 laps of a 1.63 mile order. I then ran a tiny testy-country marathon, got very lost en road to the finish line and ended up running from one to another 30 miles in gale force breath and rain so icy that it left red marks up~ the body my skin. The third marathon wasn’t at all easier. I ploughed round the race, at times knee deep in mire, after a week bed-bound with the flu. After several weeks rest I’m feeling prepared to go back to at what place this all started: The Virgin Money London Marathon.

I many times get asked if I ever have need of to just give up. There are days at the time I wake up and think ‘I regular can’t do this anymore’, runs whenever I just want to stop following half a mile and walk back home, ages when eating my body weight in carbs near the front of a race is more of a light task than a guilty pleasure and days at the time that blisters stop me from being adroit to even wear shoes. In those moments, I esteem to force myself to remember why I am pushing my body and note to their absolute limits.

The reason?  Someone is diagnosed with cancer every two minutes. Cancer Research UK is in operation to find a cure, to redeem more lives. They are working in successi~ treatments and promoting awareness to remedy improve survival rates
.
Breast cancer is the UK’s greatest in quantity common cancer and over 55,000 the public in the UK are diagnosed by the disease every year.  Breast Cancer Care is the sole specialist support charity helping the thousands of women waking up to the sour reality of breast cancer across the land every day. Its specialist nurses, limited services and emotional support network intend there’s always someone to propensity to for information and support.

Both charities are formation a huge impact on the lives of those lively with cancer and Team Run 12 and I privation to be part of that. To go a difference.

Alongside the fundraising, I’m actively dire to encourage those around me to exist more active and do more as far as concerns charities they support; and whilst my blistered, toe-nail-less feet might not be the best advert, it seems to be acting. I may be living a to a high degree different lifestyle to that of your medium 22-year old but in years to get to I will be able to lo back on this year with pride and a great sense of completion. Pain is temporary, pride is prepetually.
