Warner Bros.’ biggest reveals at Comic-Con over the weekend were the Batman v Superman trailer and the five-minute trailer for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. But the studio also teased a little more from the DC Cinematic Universe alongside Dawn of Justice, most notably revealing the title of the new Green Lantern movie as Green Lantern Corps.

The name refers to the police force of the comics, which protects the universe. The universe is divided into 3,600 sectors, and there are 7,200 members of the force, with two Green Lanterns protecting each sector.

The title was all WB was willing to tease in Hall H. But having Green Lantern Corps as the name of the film heavily suggests we’re going to be getting two Green Lanterns in the film, as rumours have been hinting at for a little while now.

It’s thought that Chris Pine (Star Trek) may have been offered the role of Hal Jordan, though we’ve also heard he was circling the love interest role for Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor. And Tyrese Gibson (Furious 7) has made no secret of the fact that he really wants to play the part, though it’s unclear if his hints are just part of a self-promotional campaign or if he’s actually been talking to WB.

The 2011 Green Lantern movie, which heavily underperformed at the box office, included the Green Lantern Corps. Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan was chosen by the dying Abin Sur to join the Green Lantern Corps, and he finds himself on their home planet, Oa, where he trains to become one of the Green Lanterns.

While the 2011 film failed to live up to the enormous potential, things are looking much better this time around. We still don’t have a director, writer, or any cast members. But WB seems to be doing a much better job with the DC Cinematic Universe so far. Man of Steel was awesome. Batman v Superman looks incredible. And Suicide Squad should be insane next summer, as well.

The Green Lantern Corps movie isn’t set to hit cinemas until 2020. But it’s possible we might get introduced to the character/s before then. Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part One will be released in 2017, so filming on that will get underway next year. And Part Two will be released in 2019, a year before the new Green Lantern film. WB is keeping quiet on exactly what the Justice League roster/s will be, so it’s possible the Green Lantern/s will be kept out of the first film, and maybe even the second. Here’s to hoping we’ll be getting more news on this front sooner rather than later.

Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to be released on June 19th, 2020.
