That fight with Terra has benefited us though, letting us Battlegen a Girl's Desire from her. Now we can finally trade for an Earring! With it, if you want you could take out the Hyper Ring for the Earring on Onion Knight, his physical attacks will be weaker but his magic will be stronger. I leave it to you to decide based on how you're using him.

Hidden behind the grass on the right is a BRV Zero. The moogle nearby has nothing worth buying. On the shoreline ahead is a Counterfeit Wraith, she uses Anti-Air Particle Beam but has no notable traits, no summon or Assist, etc. I Battlegen'd an Alarune Twig from her somehow, it unlocked only the Gaia Bell, useless. The nearby chest has 1000 gil. Up ahead break the rock and cross to the island for another 1000 gil. And now, the next gateway.

I wanted to hang onto it for the last one, but sadly kiddies, I lacked the KP for that Empty Assist Gauge booster, and I wanted it, so I had to use my KP Gambler here. Use a Straight Chain at D2 to get them, you could also use a Multichain at C4 but if you need to buy a chain, go with the Straight, with the Gambler this got me 48 KP. Don't worry kiddies, there will be other gateways, other Gamblers. The blue emblem is a magic critical rate up, purple is Stage BRV boost. Bonus line is 12 and the KP Chance is a 60 second Break, not a problem if you feel like using that BRV Zero we found. Be sure to take the time to build up an EX Gauge in the first three fights, check out what's at E2.

Enemies are first, a False Stalwart, it uses Earthquake, easily avoidable by just staying in the air. Next, a Capricious Thief, it uses Shift Break so just don't use Comet to avoid getting caught in the blast unable to dodge. Third is a Phantasmal Girl, she uses Flood as an HP attack to create blasts of water under you, long start-up and easy to avoid. Her Bravery attacks are Fire and Blizzara, and she has the Hecatoncheir summon and those Near Loss-Hyper Ring accessories.

+

+

Last foe is of course that Expert Battle Piece, a Phantasmal Harlequin. It has proper equip, the Marilith summon to activate a countdown to freeze your Bravery, uses Kefka's two Firagas, Lickity-Split Thundaga, Scattery-Spray Blizzaga, Ultima, Meteor, and for HP attacks has Hyperdrive, Trine and Havoc Wing. I let him get in a Bravery hit, then used Comet so I could deal HP damage without Breaking him. The AI will use Marilith once you use an HP attack and fall to 0 Bravery, and he did, then I broke him and got my Bravery frozen with the boost he gave. The EX Gauge was used for EX Revenge to ensure I could hit before the freeze went off, the summon timer stops while in EX Revenge. With my Bravery locked at 900 I cornered him on the turret on the end of the stage where he couldn't dodge properly and spammed Comet to kill him.

+

During this round of fights the Knight learned Swordshower, his HP link for his ground Bravery attack, it called a barrage of energy blades to bombard the enemy before he leaps up and knocks them back. Sadly I couldn't equip it until after the chain was done. He also got Firaga at Level 11, which launches a fireball forward in an arc that explodes in a large radius on impact, has long start-up but gives him a ranged option on the ground and is more reliable than Comet. Grab the chest for 2000 gil then leave. Little Onion is met by Cosmos who gives a really shitty pep talk to him, telling him Terra is in pain and it's his fault for being overconfident. The only way to free her is to fight the Cloud of Darkness, but he's afraid to do it, so Cosmos pretty much tells him "stop being a wimp and follow your heart" and leaves. And now Golbez arrives and agrees with her, he's too weak to do it so why be foolish? But he's not sure so Golbez repeats the "listen to your heart" moral.

+

On the world map I first ran back to the moogle and bought that Empty Assist Gauge booster, of course. It replaced BRV ≥ Base Value, giving me a 3.3 multiplier instead of 2.9. If you're having trouble avoiding HP damage though, use it in place of HP = 100% and keep BRV ≥ Base Value. Continue through the gateway to find a forest with the final gateway beyond in, far to the right of the gateway is a chest with Cure. On the shoreline is a stone to break with a Counterfeit Wraith nearby, she has the Shiva summon and uses Anti-Air Particle Beam. On the island is a chest with another KP Gambler! Yay, the universe answers my sadness at having to use the last one early! If the orbs of the dead don't give you one, go get a Cross Chain from the moogle before entering the gateway.

Cross Chain at C3 to get them all, use that KP Gambler now for a smooth 75 KP. The blue emblem is a Booster x5, so your 3.3x boost will jump to 16.5x. Feel the pain, manikins. The bonus line is 14, and the KP Chance is a 90 second win, easy when you have such a lovely booster buff and the enemies are no higher level than Hard. We have a boss at the end of course but no Potion, so build up your EX Gauge during these fights, of course make the KP Chance in time but use Chases and such to charge up. Feel free to take HP damage since you have Cure to heal before the boss.

First, a Counterfeit Youth, it has Blade Torrent for an HP attack and Onion Knight's melee Bravery attacks. Next, a False Stalwart. It has that Hyper Ring with the Near Loss boosters, uses the Carbuncle summonstone, and has Earthquake, once again just stay in the air and you'll be fine. Third is a Counterfeit Wraith, it uses two tentacle attacks, the spinning one on the ground and the spherical whipping one in the air, and Long Range Particle Beam for an HP attack. And of course it has those accessories, and the Magic Pot summon. Next is a Phantasmal Girl, she has those accessories too with Carbuncle, uses Blizzara, and has Tornado as an HP attack. Stay away from her when she's in the air, don't want to get hit by accident right? Finally, another Counterfeit Youth, armed with Blizzard, Thunder, and Firaga for his HP attack. Firaga is only dangerous if you're at the right range for it to arc and hit you, further or closer and no problem, if you are in the butter zone though it can explode large enough to hit you even in the air, so if you see it charge up Firaga, run away or dash towards him, depending on your distance, use your best judgement. You can use Firaga yourself in the lead-up fights if you want an idea of how far it fires and thus how to avoid it yourself.

This is of course due to my AP boosts from yesterday, but I got enough during this last round of enemies to learn Quake, branching from Blizzard. Not as good as Swordshower since it has no wall rush but it does have range since it branches from Blizzard, and a pretty funny animation. Onion Knight's attack animations involve a lot of wacky cartoon antics huh? The chest has a Ghost Rag for you, grab it, use Cure if needed, and approach the end piece. Onion Knight feigns submission to get between the Cloud of Darkness and Terra and declares that his policy of fighting opponents he can't beat hasn't changed - he's just decided that his head is wrong, because his heart tells him he can win. That makes no sense, but then a lot of the morals of the original Dissidia's stories were screwed up. Anyway, boss time, fortunately Terra vanishes from the arena as other characters tend to do.

The Cloud of Darkness has the same moveset as when we faced her with Laguna way back in Chapter 3 of the 012 story, but this time she has a level advantage on us and four Blue Gems, each of them giving her another 60 base Bravery. That 543 Bravery in the table is her base Bravery ''before'' factoring in the boost she gets from being at a higher level. In short, she can rapidly knock off large chunks of your HP with little effort, so knowing her HP attacks and how to avoid them is crucial. Fortunately you've faced her and the manikins of her a lot by this point so you know how to do so. That same Bravery also makes it harder to Break her, and of course when you finally do there's Hecatoncheir to rain on the parade.

+

+

0-Form Particle Beam is the worst threat, its range outstrips that of the Onion Knight's attacks, its damage priority will deflect or cancel out all his attacks, and at close-range it's hard to dodge and inflicts wall rush. Feel like eating 900 points of HP damage from one hit? Because it's probably going to happen if she fires off 0-Form while you're close enough for her to hit you with it. Unless you can hit her as she begins the attack, find a quickmove icon and run away quickly. Ultimately though all her attacks are dangerous due to the sheer versatility of them and her high Bravery. She's not as stupid as you might have come to expect from the AI at this point, she one blocked my attack and fires off a 0-Form right in my face. Not pleasant.

+

+

Your safest bet is to land a blow as she tries a tentacle attack, block it and hit her as she staggers, remember your HP links if you've learned any. Onion Knight's HP attacks are slow so she's very liable to damage you as you recover if she avoids you. She's ultimately not too bad because she still isn't ''that'' smart, just smarter than a lot of previous enemies. She gets a 2 on my template solely for her high Bravery letting you blast you into the Void with only a few hits. Otherwise, not much harder than any previous boss.

+

+

With her defeated she fades into darkness, and Golbez arrives to speak to us again. Onion Knight vows to protect Terra from him, and for following his heart and proving himself his Crystal manifests for him. Terra awakens, though still weak, and fall unconscious again shortly after. The Onion Knight, tired after his battle, follows suit. However the danger isn't over, because with the Cloud of Darkness's failure, Kefka is ready to take the stage and finish what she couldn't.
