[M]achhli Jal Ki Rani Hai is a comedy film!

Oh! You didn’t know. Well those who have seen surely know and for those who haven’t should take a piece of advice here.

Just don’t even think about it.

Well if you go expecting it as a horror film, one will come out disappointed but your mood will be perfect if one take it as a ride into the most ridiculously hilarious scenes and situations.

Wonder what the makers were thinking.

Nirdeshak (Director) – Utapadak (Producers)

The whole new bunch of producers (seriously 5) and director Debaloy Dey making his debut should at least come forward with distinctive and novel ideas. One gathers a team for a purpose, but here it was totally wasted. More than naïve, everything in the movie seemed so childish.

The horror genre in Bollywood as it is suffers, most film makers keep their distance from it and the others who make can’t just get it right. But this is so far one of the worst supernatural horror films and the makers has disappointed the audiences which come in search of a good horror film from Bollywood.

Disappointment because from the posters, it looked a much better film with a quirky title.

Alekh (Story) – Patkatha (Screenplay)

The main thing that lacks growth in supernatural films is story, a family that relocates to an isolated area for some silly reasons and their new house begins o haunt them. And the newbie lot didn’t care much to explore it either. Rather they made the story more immature and silly.

Coming to the part that was a torture, script.

If it was labeled as a comedy movie for kids, it would have worked. Seriously, the film had nothing. From its very start, it makes one think whether it was a good decision to watch it. The only thing missing to make it ‘the worst’ of the lot was that Ramsay tinges. But it wasn’t very far from it, it makes one as annoying as in Ramsay series will do in the present times.

Even supernatural horror films demand a plot that is realistic. Forget realistic, here it wasn’t even sensible. Things happening randomly, editing very far from the word ‘edit’, scenes and situations totally unreasonable. Even those scenes where some potential was peeping out were ruined and ended up being juvenile. All those horror or thrill stunts and those supernatural murders the makers attempted to include just ended up being hilarious and pathetic.

This genre is itself like hypothetical and hence needs more real execution. Imagine what happens when there is n execution at all; a film like this is made (laughingly). Even the thought of such an unusual title was wasted because it had zero relevance with the film (regret).

Abhineta (Actors)

Coming to the actors, a lot of new faces were seen as if they are the relatives of the makers only wanting to fulfill their acting fantasies. Anyhow talking about the talented Swara Bhaskar, wonder why she did this movie.  The actress who earned appreciation for her roles in 'Tanu Weds Manu' and 'Ranjhanaa' tires hard to perform in the child-like plot and the director’s bad execution. She managed to add that spook with her hard work and performance to some otherwise silly scenes, but then couldn’t hold it much longer because the second-rate script won’t let her.

Bhanu Uday seen in many TV series tries really hard as a male lead on the big screen. He looked and performed much better on TV. Deepraj Rana as Ugra Pratap Singh, the exorcist has the most annoying role. Given the good actor he is, he is all serious and convincing doing the act but his role and scenes on screen really makes the audience out there scratch their heads.

Murli Sharma as Manohar Gupta and Reema Debnath as Urmi are like good. Hemant Pandey tries hard to fit in his role but fails.

Geet Sangeet (Music)

Don’t be so surprised, such a horror film ad to have songs and that also extremely bad ones. So irrelevant!

Nirnay (FilmyCurry Verdict)

Supernatural/horror films already have a set of audience, and then those coming out of Bollywood have made them more disinterested in the genre.  And when films like Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai continue to hinder the genre growth and provide just silliness to the audience seeking some good stuff, time is near when Bollywood will be ridiculed for this genre especially.
