Hard to believe that it has been fourteen years since Johnny Depp first graced movie screens as Captain Jack Sparrow om Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean. Now, almost a decade and a half and three rather lackluster sequels, we get to the fifth installment of the franchise. Much like the first full length trailer, the just aired Super Bowl spot for the film is remarkably light on Depp. This time, though, it plays up a bit more of the adventure aspect but not downplaying the horror element in the film. (Zombie shark, guys!)

Also not making an appearance in this spot is Orlando Bloom, who is returning to reprise his Will Turner character, and Stephen Graham as Sparrow’s First Mate, Scrum. Geoffrey Rush’s Barbossa does get featured prominently, which for some reason gives me cause to be concerned for his character. This is about the point in a franchise where you might want to kill off a recurring supporting character just to shake things up.

Here’s Disney’s official synopsis –

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales sails into theaters on May 26th.
