I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the blog tour for C.J. Hill’s SLAYERS: FRIENDS AND TRAITORS, the second book in the Slayers series, hosted by Fire and Ice.

When I first learned that C.J. Hill, the author of ERASING TIME, wrote a series about dragons and dragon slayers I couldn’t be more excited to check it out. I have always loved reading about these magical and powerful creatures, and the idea of stories about them, set in the present, sounded absolutely fascinating.

I knew I’d love the writing as I’d read and loved ERASING TIME – I did. I knew SLAYERS had to be action-packed based on its description – it most definitely was. I hoped the story would grab me right from the start – it did, that prologue was awesome. And I hoped it would be a captivating and fun adventure. It totally was.

For someone who is new to the series I am so glad that FRIENDS AND TRAITORS is out now and that I don’t have to wait to dive into this sequel. It looks even more awesome than the first book in the series and I can’t wait to find out what happens with Tori and Jesse and Dirk and Ryker.

But before I can do that, I have a super fun and incredibly helpful guest post from the author to share with you on the “Top Ten Things Every Slayer Needs.” You know… just in case you think you’re up to the task. While I may be able to keep a secret, that’s the only one of the ten must haves that I can say I have. I think being a Slayer is not in my future.

Anyway… in addition to the guest post there is also some information about both books in the series and the author behind the stories. There is also a giveaway for a copy of SLAYERS with its gorgeous new cover.

And if you’d like to check out the other stops on tour, the tour schedule is included at the bottom of this post. I’ll be updating the stops with direct links in case you want to read a few reviews, interviews, tens lists and guest posts.

But first let me turn the blog over to the very awesome C.J. Hill….

Top Ten Things Every Slayer Needs

by C.J. Hill

1.

A superpower. Flying might be most people’s first choice—until they realize it’s really the flyers who have to go one-on-one with the dragon. The Slayers who can douse fire, throw shields up, or heal burns get to stay on the ground out of claws’ reach.

2.

The ability to keep a secret. If parents knew that their teens were genetically driven to fight dragons, they would move their kids to remote, safe islands.

3.

A counterpart. Slayers with the same power can sense things about each other and can tell where their counterparts are. It helps with fighting, but also has some unintended side effects. A Slayer knows when his/her counterpart is lying.

4.

Bravery. Dragons are involved.

5.

Altruism. Superhero work doesn’t pay as well as you’d think.

6.

The ability to duck away from fire is always a bonus.

7.

Athletic ability. It takes some muscles to leap ten feet in the air or shoot at a distance. Luckily the Slayers are born with plenty of athletic prowess.

8.

A cool watch phone to connect you to other Slayers.

9.

A summer to train. It takes practice to work as a team.

10.

A horse. Dragon’s send out an electromagnetic pulse that destroys electronics, including a car’s inner workings. When dragons attack, a horse comes in handy. Plus, who doesn’t love a horse?

About Friends and Traitors

Description…

In C.J. Hill’s action-packed sequel to Slayers, the group of teens known as Slayers have been betrayed—but they won’t give up without a fight.

Tori’s got a problem. She thought she’d have one more summer to train as a dragon Slayer, but time has run out. When Tori hears the horrifying sound of dragon eggs hatching, she knows the Slayers are in trouble. In less than a year, the dragons will be fully grown and completely lethal. The Slayers are well-prepared, but their group is still not complete, and Tori is determined to track down Ryker—the mysterious missing Slayer.

What Tori doesn’t bargain for, however, is the surprising truth about her powers. She isn’t just a Slayer, she’s part Dragon Lord, too. How can Tori fight to save her friends when half of her is programmed to protect dragons? And with a possible traitor in their midst, the Slayers will be divided in more ways than they ever imagined.

About C.J. Hill

CJ Hill is a pen name for a YA author who is best known for writing romantic comedies. (Slayers will be her 18th published book.) Her writing has shifted away from the romantic comedy genre, so her editor thought a pen name would be a good idea. (New books will include: dangerous dragons, time travel to dystopian worlds, and flesh-eating beetles.)

Since the publisher refused to let her have the pseudonym : The Artist Formerly Referred to as Princess, she chose a name to honor her mother. CJ Hill was her mother’s pen name, or at least it would have been if her mother had published. Her mother wrote a few children’s books and a middle grade novel but was taken by cancer before she had fully learned the craft.

(Most writers’ first novels aren’t publishable. CJ Junior’s first novel wasn’t, but somehow was published anyway. Now, even though it is out of print, it remains forever available on Amazon, where it taunts her with its badness. This was another good reason to use a pen name.)

CJ Hill has five children, three of whom like her on any given day depending on who is in trouble. She has lived in Arizona for the last half of her life, but is still in desert denial and hopes that one day her garden will grow silver bells and cockle shells or maybe just tomatoes.

About Slayers

Description…

Sixteen-year-old Tori Hampton may be a socialite and a senator’s daughter, but she’s certainly more than just a pretty face. She’s smart and tough and surprisingly good at outdoor sports. For as long as she can remember, Tori always had a secret obsession with dragons. And now that she’s attending Dragon Camp for the summer, she can’t wait to indulge her inner fascination.

But unbeknownst to Tori, this is no ordinary camp. This is a camp for Slayers–a handful of teens descended from the original knights. And with new dragon eggs about to hatch, the time for the Slayers to save the world is now. Danger awaits, romance beckons, and their very survival is at stake.
