Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of September 24th-September 30th that I have pre-ordered.

THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS by Gena Showalter will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover and audio formats. (It will be available in eBook format on October 1st.) It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 480 pages.

THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS is the second book in author Gena Showalter’s White Rabbit Chronicles. The third book, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

I am totally stoked that THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS is releasing this week. I read it early thanks to a trade for an ARC and it was so unbe-freaking-lievably awesome. Cole!!!!

But even though I already read it, I can’t wait until my print copy arrives this week and it downloads to my Kindle next week so that I can read it again and again, highlight my favorite passages – there were a ton – and fall in love with this sequel for a second time.

As I have already read this amazing book and this post is so very long, I will just say this is a total must read sequel, it’s angst-filled, nerve-wracking, maddening – in a really good way – action-packed and awesome. Okay, so I’ve said awesome already. But it’s awesome times two, times ten, times a million.

Description…

Inspired by the childhood classic Alice in Wonderland, this harrowing and romantic story features teen zombie slayer Alice Bell who has lost so much—family, friends, her home. After a strange new zombie attack, Alice fears she may be losing her mind as well. A terrible darkness blooms inside her, urging her to do wicked things. The whispers of the dead assault her ears and mirrors seem to come frighteningly to life. She’s never needed her team of zombie slayers more—including her boyfriend, Cole—than she does now. But as Cole strangely withdraws and the zombies gain new strength, Ali knows one false step may doom them all.

UNTOLD by Sarah Rees Brennan will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Random House Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 384 pages.

UNTOLD is the second book in author Sarah Rees Brennan’s The Lyburn Legacy. The third book, UNBROKEN, is slated for release in 2014.

I haven’t yet read the first book in The Lyburn Legacy but I’m such a huge fan of author Sarah Rees Brennan that I just had to pre-order UNTOLD and hope to read both books in the series some time this fall.

Even though I haven’t yet met Kami Glass and found out why – and how – she can love a boy she never met, found out how come her imaginary friend isn’t so imaginary and found out why either Jared or Ash is so familiar to her, I can’t wait to read this sequel. Both books sound awesome – yes I took a peek at this books’ descriptions and may have spoiled just one teensy piece of the story. Oh well. Totally worth it.

I want to know what exactly were those “bloody deeds” that happened in the woods. I want to know what Kami’s mother is hiding. I want to know whether she still loves her not-so-imaginary friend or if she’ll choose to love someone else and most of all I want to know which side she chooses in Sorry-in-the-Vale – good or evil.

Description…

Free from bonds, but not each other

It’s time to choose sides… On the surface, Sorry-in-the-Vale is a sleepy English town. But Kami Glass knows the truth. Sorry-in-the-Vale is full of magic. In the old days, the Lynburn family ruled with fear, terrifying the people into submission in order to kill for blood and power. Now the Lynburns are back, and Rob Lynburn is gathering sorcerers so that the town can return to the old ways.

But Rob and his followers aren’t the only sorcerers in town. A decision must be made: pay the blood sacrifice, or fight. For Kami, this means more than just choosing between good and evil. With her link to Jared Lynburn severed, she’s now free to love anyone she chooses. But who should that be?

MARIE ANTOINETTE SERIAL KILLER by Katie Alender will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by POINT, the print edition is 304 pages.

I am so excited that my copy of MARIE ANTOINETTE, SERIAL KILLER will be downloading to my Kindle this week. I absolutely loved this book and I think Katie Alender is an awesome writer and I cannot wait to have it as part of my permanent collection.

It was such a super quick read, and the description did not lie, it was totally suspenseful. I was riveted. Now I just need to figure out how to write my review.

But so as not to spoil anything, I will not reveal just what secret is uncovered, just what realization Colette comes to, or just why she’s in danger. It’s so much better to uncover all of that in the course of the read.

Description…

Colette Iselin is excited to go to Paris on a class trip. She’ll get to soak up the beauty and culture, and maybe even learn something about her family’s French roots.

But a series of gruesome murders are taking place across the city, putting everyone on edge. And as she tours museums and palaces, Colette keeps seeing a strange vision: a pale woman in a ball gown and powdered wig, who looks suspiciously like Marie Antoinette.

Colette knows her popular, status-obsessed friends won’t believe her, so she seeks out the help of a charming French boy. Together, they uncover a shocking secret involving a dark, hidden history. When Colette realizes she herself may hold the key to the mystery, her own life is suddenly in danger . . .

Acclaimed author Katie Alender brings heart-stopping suspense to this story of revenge, betrayal, intrigue — and one killer queen.

FIND ME by Romily Bernard will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

I cannot believe release date is finally just about here for FIND ME. I received an eARC for review, am three-fourths of the way finished and I wish I were reading it right now instead of writing this post. I absolutely love this book. I just knew I would. And it did not disappoint.

As FIND ME was the book I spotlighted for my Book Watch post and it’s a book I hope to review, as always, I’m going to try to keep things brief here. But… yes there is always a but… I loved getting to know Wick, a.k.a. Wicket, a.k.a. Wicked. And I love the suspense involved in trying to figure out who the mystery man in Tessa Waye’s diary is and whether he’s the same person responsible for her death.

There is one suspect at the tip top of my list but as the killer hasn’t yet been revealed I don’t know if I’m right. And I do keep second guessing myself. Which makes for the perfect mystery read for me. As I usually guess whodunit right at the start I’m usually quite bored during the read and the ending is often anticlimactic. I’m almost never wrong.

But even if I am right, this story has kept me guessing, kept me engaged, and I am anything but bored. So I’m totally glad that I have this pre-ordered and that the final version will be downloading to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. Even though it won’t go on the TBR Pile I can’t wait for it to be a part of my collection.

Description…

“Find Me.”

These are the words written on Tessa Waye’s diary. The diary that ends up with Wick Tate. But Tessa’s just been found . . . dead.

Wick has the right computer-hacking skills for the job, but little interest in this perverse game of hide-and-seek. Until her sister Lily is the next target.

Then Griff, trailer-park boy next door and fellow hacker, shows up, intent on helping Wick. Is a happy ending possible with the threat of Wick’s deadbeat dad returning, the detective hunting him sniffing around Wick instead, and a killer taunting her at every step?

Foster child. Daughter of a felon. Loner hacker girl. Wick has a bad attitude and sarcasm to spare.

But she’s going to find this killer no matter what.

Because it just got personal.

WITCHSTRUCK by Victoria Lamb will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 320 pages.

WITCHSTRUCK is the first book in author Victoria Lamb’s The Tudor Witch Trilogy. The second book in the series, WITCHFALL, will likely be available in 2014 in the U.S. The third book in the trilogy is currently untitled.

I discovered this book thanks to a tour email from Kismet Book Touring and while I completely missed the sign-ups for the tour, WITCHSTRUCK looked so intriguing that I had to pre-order it for my Kindle. While I could have grabbed an early read from NetGalley, I knew my reading schedule was tight so I figured I could wait until its release and read my purchased copy.

Though I wish I read it already. It sounds amazing.

I can’t wait to go back in time to England in 1554 and meet Meg Lytton and learn more about her “dark and powerful gift.” A story of witchcraft and conspiracies against the crown sounds like just the sort of book I’d love to read right about now, especially after having watched a few episodes of “The White Queen.”

But I am just so curious what will happen with the witchfinder Marcus wanting to wed Meg. I’m more curious about what will happen between Meg and the Spanish priest Alejandro. And I really want to find out just what “dangerous choice” she must open her heart to.

And I really, really, hope to be able to sneak this onto the pile next week.

Description…

If she sink, she be no witch and shall be drowned. If she float, she be a witch and must be hanged.

Meg Lytton has always known she is different;that she bears a dark and powerful gift. But in 1554 England, in service at Woodstock Palace to the banished Tudor princess Elizabeth, it has never been more dangerous to practice witchcraft. Meg knows she must guard her secret carefully from the many suspicious eyes watching over the princess and her companions. One wrong move could mean her life, and the life of Elizabeth, rightful heir to the English throne. With witchfinder Marcus Dent determined to have Meg’s hand in marriage, and Meg’s own family conspiring against the English queen, there isn’t a single person Meg can trust. Certainly not the enigmatic young Spanish priest Alejandro de Castillo, despite her undeniable feelings. But when all the world turns against her, Meg must open her heart to a dangerous choice. The Secret Circle meets The Other Boleyn Girl in Witchstruck ,the first book of the magical Tudor Witch trilogy.

A RADIANT SKY by Jocelyn Davies will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 368 pages.

A RADIANT SKY is the third, and final, full-length book in author Jocelyn Davies’ A Beautiful Dark series.

I can’t believe this series is ending with A RADIANT SKY’s release this week. I own both of the previous books and have this last book pre-ordered, even though I have yet to discover this series. But I really want to.

Because, as I’ve thought since prior to the first book in the series’ release, it sounds amazing.

I want to meet Skye and the “dark and wild” Asher and  ”fair and aloof” Devin. I want to find out more about Skye’s past and the secret that “threatens to shatter her world.” I love stories with a love triangle and the first book in the series holds the promise of one that sounds like it will have major repercussions. And I can’t wait to find out what those are.

But I refuse to read the description for this final book in the series as it will potentially spoil the entire series for me. Including it in this post is proving to be quite the temptation, but one I’m desperate not to give in to as I hope to be able to read this entire series some time next month.

And I am just so totally stoked that I’ll be able to devour an entire series from beginning to end, especially one that sounds as amazing as this one does.

Description…

Since the night of her seventeenth birthday, Skye has been torn between two opposites: Light and Dark, the Order and the Rebellion, Devin and Asher.

But her decision shocked both sides—because she chose neither.

With the help of her friends, Skye forges her own path, setting out to gather an uprising of Rogues. The treacherous and elusive half-angels may be the key to maintaining the balance of fate and free will. But completing the mission her parents left unfinished is more difficult—and dangerous—than she could have imagined. And doing so comes at a cost: Her greatest love may now be a lethal enemy. Because it’s not just the Order that sees her as a threat who must be eliminated. The Rebellion does, too.

And both sides will do whatever it takes to win.

Dark days lie ahead, and if Skye is to survive, she’ll need to rely on her extraordinary powers and the strength of her will. Because she has a future—and a love—that’s worth fighting for.

The sweeping, darkly romantic story that began with A Beautiful Dark and gathered intensity in A Fractured Light comes to a thrilling conclusion in A Radiant Sky.

WHERE THE STARS STILL SHINE by Trish Doller will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens, the print edition is 352 pages.

Ever since I first saw WHERE THE STARS STILL SHINE on NetGalley I’ve wanted to read it. While I didn’t request it for review, I immediately added it to my list of pre-orders and I’m so excited that it will be downloading this week.

There was something about this book’s title that just kept calling to me. Even before I read the description I knew that it had to be a part of my book collection. But after having read the description I definitely knew I’d want to read this book. It sounds utterly heartbreaking and haunting with the potential for a happy-ish ending.

The description promises “love” and “betrayal” and a story that is “gritty” and “true.” And I cannot wait to read it, make a connection with Callie and root for her to find the normal she never had.

Description…

Stolen as a child from her large and loving family, and on the run with her mom for more than ten years, Callie has only the barest idea of what normal life might be like. She’s never had a home, never gone to school, and has gotten most of her meals from laundromat vending machines. Her dreams are haunted by memories she’d like to forget completely. But when Callie’s mom is finally arrested for kidnapping her, and Callie’s real dad whisks her back to what would have been her life, in a small town in Florida, Callie must find a way to leave the past behind. She must learn to be part of a family. And she must believe that love–even with someone who seems an improbable choice–is more than just a possibility.

Trish Doller writes incredibly real teens, and this searing story of love, betrayal, and how not to lose your mind will resonate with readers who want their stories gritty and utterly true.

NOT A DROP TO DRINK by Mindy McGinnis will be released in the U.S. on September 24, 2013 in hardcover, audio and ebook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Katherine Tegen books, the print edition is 320 pages.

I have heard so many great things about NOT A DROP TO DRINK that when searching for details for this post and seeing its discounted price at Amazon I decided to pre-order it for my Kindle.

I can’t quite get a feel for the story based upon its description so I’m not entirely sure if it’s the type of story I would normally read. It sounds more similar to the types of movies I enjoy – a family fighting to defend their land in a post-apocalyptic type of setting that’s part post-apocalyptic, part horror.

But it does make me curious. Especially as regards the writing, which the description says uses “evocative, spare language.” And with its beautiful cover and high words of praise from trusted blogger friends I definitely plan on reading this book some time in early November.

Description…

Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn’t leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

Publisher: Little Brown Books for Young Readers

Find It: AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE

Description:

The triangular spaceship hovered motionless in the sky above Reese Holloway’s house, as inscrutable as a black hole. It had seemed like a good idea when they were inside: to tell the truth about what happened to them at Area 51. It didn’t seem like such a good idea now.

Reese and David are not normal teens—not since they were adapted with alien DNA by the Imria, an extraterrestrial race that has been secretly visiting Earth for decades. Now everyone is trying to get to them: the government, the Imria, and a mysterious corporation that would do anything for the upper hand against the aliens.

Beyond the web of conspiracies, Reese can’t reconcile her love for David with her feelings for her ex-girlfriend Amber, an Imrian. But her choice between two worlds will play a critical role in determining the future of humanity, the Imria’s place in it, and the inheritance she and David will bring to the universe.

In this gripping sequel to Adaptation, Malinda Lo brings a thoughtful exploration of adolescence, sexuality, and “the other” to a science fiction thriller that is impossible to put down.

Publisher: Greenwillow Books

Description:

What happens when you put a suicidal eighteen-year-old philosophy student, his ex-girlfriend, his best friend, and his newborn baby in a truck and send them to Grandma’s house? This debut novel by Emil Ostrovski will appeal to fans of John Green, Chris Crutcher, and Jay Asher.

On the morning of his eighteenth birthday, philosophy student and high school senior Jack Polovsky is somewhat seriously thinking of suicide when his cell phone rings. Jack’s ex-girlfriend, Jess, has given birth, and Jack is the father. Jack hasn’t spoken with Jess in about nine months—and she wants him to see the baby before he is adopted. The new teenage father kidnaps the baby, names him Socrates, stocks up on baby supplies at Wal-Mart, and hits the road with his best friend, Tommy, and the ex-girlfriend. As they head to Grandma’s house (eluding the police at every turn), Jack tells baby Socrates about Homer, Troy, Aristotle, the real Socrates, and the Greek myths—because all stories spring from those stories, really. Description:

There are no heroes.

Every single person who manifested powers—we call them Epics—turned out to be evil.

Here, in the city once known as Chicago, an extraordinarily powerful Epic declared himself Emperor. Steelheart has the strength of ten men and can control the elements. It is said no bullet can harm him, no sword can split his skin, no explosion can burn him. He is invincible.

It has been ten years. We live our lives as best we can. Nobody fights back . . . nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans who spend their lives studying powerful Epics, finding their weaknesses, then assassinating them.

My name is David Charleston. I’m not one of the Reckoners, but I intend to join them. I have something they need. Something precious, something incredible. Not an object, but an experience. I know his secret.

I’ve seen Steelheart bleed.

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics… nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart—the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David’s father. For years, like the Reckoners, David’s been studying, and planning—and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He’s seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.
