Vodafone Fijian 7s squad members work on strengthening their scrummaging during training at the Uprising Beach Resort ground yesterday.

Former Flying Fijians hooker and Fiji Rugby Union High Performance Unit elite player pathway manager Viliame Gadolo assisted the forwards.

Head Coach Gareth Baber said it’s another area they would need to lift their skills and techniques.

“The forwards worked on their scrummaging and they need to be comfortable and understand their roles,”Baber said.

He confirmed injured Apisai Domolailai and Masivesi Dakuwaqa will be available for selection for Las Vegas-Vancouver 7s but will be continuously monitored during training next week.

“It’s a fitness challenge for them to see now how they can regain their fitness level but I will make decision next week,”Baber said.

“They will be available for selection whether they in the squad or not but it will be determined next week.”

The other two injured players Amenoni Nasilasila and Alifereti Veitokani will have a scan today.

The extended squad will have a fitness test next week but Baber was impressed with the player’s body shape.

“They are in good shape and we are not too far away from where we need to be.”

Other area Baber is working on is the new high tackle law.

“It’s habit they grow up since they were kids in the way they tackle and World Rugby has decided to clamp down on high tackles.

“For example if you get into the job and you have the habit of doing it and somebody tells you to change it, it can’t happen overnight. Naturally when players are under pressure they go back to old habits.”

Veremalua,  Mulevoro excused

Baber confirmed Jasa Veremalua and Emosi Mulevoro have family commitments and have been excused from camp this week.

Korotogo, Nadroga native Veremalua will get married today.

“I have spoken to Jasa, he has a lot on his plate at home so he’s been given space to go and get that one done.

“His having a baby and getting married this month is great.”

“Mulevoro also have family issues and also got some injuries coming back from Sydney,” Baber said.

Fiji is grouped in Pool D in Las Vegas alongside Australia, Scotland and Japan.
