A group of men broke through the front door and forced their way into the Bad Dog Café at the Damodar City complex in Laucala Bay, Suva, early yesterday.

The managing director of Matrix Holdings Ltd and Bad Dog Café, Liam Hindle, said the incident took place around two o’clock in the morning.

“The thieves couldn’t get through the glass, but they managed to break through the door and got away with bottles of liquor, but no cash was taken.”

He said the cost of damage was around $2000.

“We will do a stock take for the liquor to help determine the expense,” he said.

Five security personnel from South Pacific Security Services Limited are responsible for looking after the complex at night.

Mr Hindle said that they needed to talk with the security company.

“It appeared that the thieves were armed and this is why the security guards could not tackle them,” he said.

An effort to obtain comments from the security company was unsuccessful.

Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that the thieves only took bottles of liquor.

“Those who broke in only took a few bottles of alcohol and investigations are still continuing,” Inspector Sokomuri said.
