Well known Eastern Cape trainer Balekile Sam died after a short illness in Mdantasne near East London last Friday. He was 77. Sam began training young fighters at the Modern Boys Club in the 1970s. Amongst the boxers he trained was the first South African female fighter to win a “world” title Noni Tenge, who won the IBF junior welterweight belt and later captured the WBF junior middleweight belt. He was buried in Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape last Saturday.
