On the day Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman won an appeal against a four-game suspension for a failed drug test, he was "randomly tested."

Sherman says he’s ready to move on | Seahawks Insider - The News Tribune
The NFL has a wry since of humor. On the day Seattle Seahwks cornerback Richard Sherman found out he won his appeal for allegedly testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, he also was "randomly selected" by the league to take a urine test this afternoon. "That’s the way it works," Sherman said, as came out of the bathroom. "You can bet I was paying attention today."

Unreported irregularities in testing process led to Richard Sherman’s appeal victory | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports
Sherman made several points during his own testimony. First, he raised the issue that there were several other cups in the area, and that some of them had been used. Also, when Sherman was asked to sign the agreement via electronic device, the consent language was not visible, and Sherman said that he never would have signed it given the irregularities. Cook disputed this. In addition, on the Athletes Control & Custody form, the pH levels of the sample were inconsistent with what was received by the testing lab. Most importantly, Cook did not tell his company at the time that there had been an irregularity in the testing process per testimony, he did not tell anyone until his supervisor asked him in October. And since the NFL's drug policy states that a confirmation test must be done by a different technician after any positive test, and Cook did both tests, this was a further violation of the process.

Bowl games provide talent evaluators with a wonderful opportunity to gauge prospects in a unique setting. Simply put, bowl games take players out of their comfort zone.

Week 16 Power Rankings
I was on the Seahawks’ bandwagon a couple of weeks earlier than most, but they’re now #1 in Football Outsiders’ DVOA ratings and third in Advanced NFL Stats’ Efficiency Rankings. Seattle is also first in Pro-Football-Reference.com’s SRS Ratings; the Seahawks are second in the NFL in points differential, behind the Patriots, but a much tougher schedule was enough to close the gap there. Now that Richard Sherman is cleared to play in the postseason, Seattle is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. They may not have home field advantage in the playoffs, but they do have my Coach of the Year.

"It feels great," Washington said. "Just to know that all the hard work you put into something, it pays off – eventually. Considering my situation, where I came from with the broken-leg injury and getting traded, there are so many people to thank. My wife, first of all, because we’ve been through so much together. She was there with me when I broke my leg and has seen me comeback from that.

Further thoughts on Brandon Coleman " Seahawks Draft Blog
Yesterday I mocked Brandon Coleman to the Seahawks late in the first round. I’ve written about Coleman before, but this was the first time I’d paired him with the Seahawks. For me he’s a unique prospect. And one of the things we’ve learnt about Seattle’s front office is ‘unique’ isn’t considered a bad thing.

Dave McGinnis, assistant head coach for the St. Louis Rams, knows the coverage might have to hold up a little longer when his team visits Seattle in Week 17. Pete Carroll, Seattle Seahawks spurred on by special approach - NFL.com
But ask Carroll if his team's 42-13 whitewashing of the mighty San Francisco 49ers was the culmination of a painstaking reimagining of the franchise, and he'll stop you dead in your tracks. "Absolutely not," he responded Wednesday over his cell phone, as he was heading out to practice. "That's just one more stepping stone along the way. We have a long way to go, here. Don't get me wrong, that was a terrific win, because we respect those guys so much. But because of that, this game here in a few days is much bigger than that game."

Richard Sherman wins appeal, available for playoffs - Dec. 27, 2012 | Seattle - Seahawks - TOP STORIES - Seattle's live and local sports station
The full decision on the appeal by arbiter Robert E. Wallace Jr. was released later Thursday confirming that Sherman's appeal was upheld and that his suspension had been nullified. "In this case, after weighing the differing testimonies of the only two people with first-hand knowledge, Mr. Sherman and Mr. (Mark) Cook (the tester), I do not believe the burden has been met that the departures, especially in the actual collection of the sample, did not materially affect the validity of the positive test." "Accordingly, Mr. Sherman's appeal is granted and the discipline is reversed," Wallace Jr. wrote.
