The 49ers rank No. 1 in the league in average yards allowed, with the Seahawks at No. 6, the Cardinals at No. 7 and the Rams at No. 10. And they’ve been even stingier when it comes to points, as the Seahawks rank second (12.9) to the Bears (12.8) in average points allowed by the defense, with the 49ers at No. 3 (13.3) and the Cardinals at No. 4 (15.9).

His completion percentage is low (53.6) but he's averaging 279 yards per game and he's also rushed for three scores. He made clutch plays with both his arm and legs in wins over the Packers, Vikings and Browns. Despite his poor rating, it's clear to me that he has had a tremendous impact this season.

I thought there were five, but ESPN uses a stricter standard in the interests of consistency (all games are charted twice, and drops are logged only for passes that should have been caught with ordinary effort). QBR does not dock a quarterback as much for incomplete passes that are dropped, but neither does it award "credit" for gains that should have been made. We covered similar ground regarding the 49ers' Smith last season.
