"Sidney and I are close," insisted the ever-diplomatic quarterback, who could find the nice in an observation about termite infestation, sour milk and the cancellation of the last flight home on Christmas Eve. "He’s a guy who loves to compete at the highest level, and obviously I want to get the ball to Sidney as much as I can."

Pete Carroll chides Harbaugh for complaints about officiating | ProFootballTalk
Before the 49ers' Week Six game against the Giants, San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh lashed out at New York offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride. Harbaugh claimed that Gilbride's complaint about 49ers defensive end Justin Smith holding offensive lineman was an "outrageous, irrational statement" wi...

Monday metatarsal musings
It all starts with defense. Hard-hitting, aggressive and, at times, suffocating defense. The 49ers rank No. 1 in the league in average yards allowed, with the Seahawks at No. 6, the Cardinals at No. 7 and the Rams at No. 10. And they’ve been even stingier when it comes to points, as the Seahawks rank second (12.9) to the Bears (12.8) in average points allowed by the defense, with the 49ers at No. 3 (13.3) and the Cardinals at No. 4 (15.9).

Robert Griffin III astounds even in defeat; Week 7 notes - NFL.com
Andrew Luck is tied for 31st in passer rating. I've watched every Colts game this season and I was shocked to learn Luck's status in this category. His completion percentage is low (53.6) but he's averaging 279 yards per game and he's also rushed for three scores. He made clutch plays with both his arm and legs in wins over the Packers, Vikings and Browns. Despite his poor rating, it's clear to me that he has had a tremendous impact this season.

Harbaugh, Carroll continue dialogue on play of Seattle DBs
On Monday, after Carroll's retort, Harbaugh was asked if his comments were similar to those Gilbride made a couple weeks earlier. "No, I don't think so," Harbaugh said. "Any time you ask me about officiating from a game, a previous game, an upcoming game, there's a way we've been instructed to handle that, and that's to not criticize officiating and to address any concerns, and also anything you want clarification of or interpretation with the officials in New York."

ProFootballWeekly.com - Insider: Bowles promotion was long overdue
• "I think (Seahawks RB) Marshawn Lynch is the best back in football. He’s very difficult to defend in the zone scheme they run. … If you look at the second half against San Francisco, (rookie QB) Russell Wilson was rattled. He was awful. I think you’ll see more teams start to pressure him early. He does not handle it well."

QBR ranks: Sifting through Week 7 rubble - NFC West Blog - ESPN
Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (26.0 QBR, 38.7 NFL rating): Wilson completed 9 of 23 passes for 122 yards with no TDs, one INT, two sacks, no fumbles and three rushes for 10 yards. Wilson threw accurately down the field for tight end Evan Moore and running back Robert Turbin in the first half, but both players dropped the ball. ESPN counted four drops for Seattle overall. I thought there were five, but ESPN uses a stricter standard in the interests of consistency (all games are charted twice, and drops are logged only for passes that should have been caught with ordinary effort). QBR does not dock a quarterback as much for incomplete passes that are dropped, but neither does it award "credit" for gains that should have been made. We covered similar ground regarding the 49ers' Smith last season.

Seahawks' Heath Farwell finds his NFL niche | Seattle Seahawks - The News Tribune
"I’m definitely not the fastest guy down there – that’s (Byron) Maxwell or (Chris) Maragos," Farwell said with a laugh. "But you’ve got to have instincts, too. I’ve got those guys running down in front of me, and I kind of play off of them. And they make a lot of stuff happen that allows me to make tackles."
