Finally, it was the big day and you would have thought there was a prom going on as they all assembled into Breana’s foyer to take one big family photo. They all decided to wear their best black dresses and tuxes to honor Whitney. Breana smiled as she stood with her family and next to them was Jas and Trey, Lee and Wale, Genn and Blake and Naureen and Jermaine. It was a big day for all of them. They even took a mock prom photo, all the guys standing behind their girls, arms around their waists as they did.

thanks, Breana texted back and smiled. During the pre-awards show, her collab with Kanye and a slew of other artists for ‘All Of The Lights’ won a Grammy already. She was happy about that. But the award that she was really excited about was Best R&B Album and she really wanted Maurice to get it. If he did win, it would make her whole night. She felt she had enough Grammy’s. Maurice deserved at least one.

She did an interview with Ryan Seacrest and walked the red carpet and then she was escorted inside. She usually hung out on the carpet to catch up with friends but there was only one person that she wanted to catch up with. However, Maurice’s performance was early on in the show so unfortunately, she wasnt able to see him.
The show began with a moving opening monologue by LL Cool J about Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson sang in tribute to her. The show went great and she was counting down the minutes until Maurice’s performance.

"We should get you backstage"Genn said to her
"So soon?"Breana asked,"Maurice is about to come on-"
"Thats my point. The cameras are going to be on you the whole time hes performing. Its better if you watch backstage in the privacy of your own dressing room, you know, in case you give yourself away"Genn said to her
Breana was about to refuse when a few cameramen came up the aisle and started setting up right next to her seat. Genn was right. “Ok lets go”she said. Sadly, she couldnt even watch Maurice perform in peace. However, once she was backstage, she could do what she wanted and when he was introduced, she clapped for him and smiled wide as ‘Turn Up The Music’ began to play. It brought back memories of them recording the remix in the studio together. She couldnt wait for her fans to hear it. She couldnt wait for his fans to hear it. And crazily enough, she even dreamed about the two of them going on tour together again. Singing their new remixes along with ‘Cinderella’ just like the old days. She watched in awe as Maurice danced up and down a pyramid like set that stood at least 100 feet tall. His backup dancers did as well and flipped on and off the high platform and she almost held her breath. If anyone else did this type of performance, she would fear for their life but she knew Maurice’s dancing abilities and he was a talented acrobat too. When “Beautiful People” came on, she danced in her seat. This was still one of her favorite songs and when his performance ended and he did one final back flip off the middle of the high platform, the audience gasped and cheered just as loud as she did.
She smiled widely, she was so proud of him.
"There you are, what are you doing back here?"Moni asked as she walked into the dressing room
"Um….uh…"Breana said, for once she couldnt think of a lie. Mommy didnt know that she and Maurice were talking again and she didnt know if now was the time to tell her
"She has to get ready for her performance. Stage management said so"Genn said,"Just waiting on her costume"
"Ok well I’ll go back out to the audience. Break legs out there baby"Moni said as she gave her a big hug and a kiss,"Im so proud of you. I love you"
"I love you too"Breana said as she hugged her close. When she left out, she sighed with relief,"Thanks Genn….I had no idea what to say-"
"When are you going to tell them? The remixes are coming out next week. You need to tell them yourself, they shouldnt find out when they listen to the radio on your birthday"
"I know. I know. I just….I dont know how"
"Just tell them that you’re just a fool in love"Genn said, quoting one of her songs on her album, Breana nodded. Her phone started to ring and she picked it up and saw that it was Maurice calling
"Best performance ever. I dont know how Im gonna follow that"

"You think so?"Maurice asked with a smile, he was still out of breath but he didnt care. He felt so great and so energized. He felt like a new person but felt like his old self again at the same time. All the applause washed all of his insecurities away.
"I know so"
"Well then maybe you shouldnt perform"he said as he buttoned up his shirt and then decided to leave the top three buttons open. He was still hot after dancing and flipping all over the stage. "Lets ditch this joint and go out somewhere"
"But your award is coming up"
"You know Im not gonna get it"Maurice said
"I dont know that"
"I do"
"You’re gonna get it. We’re not leaving. I still have time to show you up and you are performing at the end of the night with David and Wayne, you cant leave"
"You’re right. I cant leave"he said as Mama Joyce waved at him to come on. He was to wait backstage as they announced the Best R&B Album category.
"Im also right about something else. You’re gonna get it. I prayed for you to get it all week"Breana said,"Gods gonna answer my prayers, he dont make no mistakes"
Maurice smiled as Mama Joyce told him to get off the phone. “I love you so much”
"I love you too"
"Gotta go. They’re gonna film my reaction while I await my fate"
"Go get em Tiger"she said and they hung up. Maurice took a deep breath as he stood backstage. Mama Joyce wished him luck and kissed his cheek and wiped her lipstick off as Common and Taraji Henson walked out and presented the award

"No matter what happens. You’re a winner tonight baby. You are"Mama Joyce said to him as the camera man counted down and then started to roll. With Breana and Mama’s words of encouragement, he couldnt help but smile but he felt like he was going to pee his pants. He really had to go. Why didnt he go before he got out here?
"And the Best R&B Album goes to…."
Maurice closed his eyes and said a quick prayer while trying to hold in his pee. At the same time, Breana’s dressing room was shushed into complete silence as she crossed her fingers and prayed one last time.
"Maurice Brown with FAME!"Common and Taraji said happily and Maurice opened his eyes
Breana burst into tears as everyone started cheering. She stood there, proud as could be as Maurice walked out and accepted his award.
"Thank you"he said with a big smile. "Team Breezy this is all for you. All my fans, love ya’ll thank you so much"he said simply and held up his award. He dapped up Common as they walked backstage and he got a hug from Taraji as she told him his award was ‘well deserved’.
His first Grammy. He got a Grammy.
He was then shuttled to press and he took many goofy pictures with his award. He took as many as he could and answered as many questions as he could until he couldnt hold his bladder any longer. He thanked everyone and rushed backstage to his dressing room as Breana called him. “Hey babe, sorry I gotta pee-“he said hastily as he ran into the bathroom, put his phone on speaker and unzipped his pants and relieved himself
"You gotta what?…..ohmigod….nigga are you peeing? You’re so disgusting"Breana screamed in laughter
Soon it was time for Breana to perform. She sang ‘We Found Love’ and did a high energy dance routine along with it. She even screamed,”We love you Whitney!!!” during her performance and when that song ended. Coldplay began their set with ‘Princess Of China’ and Breana sang along with them

Breana felt just like Maurice did when she got off that stage. Happy and energized. Maurice made sure to stay in his dressing room so he could fully appreciate her performance with no one watching. He clapped along with everyone else when she left the stage and Coldplay started playing ‘Paradise’.

However, Breana didnt get it right away. She celebrated with her dancers in her dressing room and they popped open a bottle of champagne and they all filled their glasses. Breana was happy it was over. She loved to perform, but she hated performing at award shows. Not only was the whole world watching but the best in the music business and people who werent really fans of her music all got a front row seat. It was nerve wracking. Now she can get changed and go back out there and watch the rest of the show with no anxiety. “Ok everyone get the fuck out, I gotta get dressed”she said with a smile and kissed each of her dancers on the cheek and thanked them
Once they all cleared out, she picked up her phone and saw the text from Maurice and she thanked him.

Breana paused and walked over to her clothing rack and saw a gray box with a white bow wrapped around it. She gasped as she took the top off and she smiled when she saw a gray and white varsity jacket that resembled the jacket Maurice wore during his performance. A big letter ‘A’ was on the left breast.

Breana swooned again as a knock came on her door. She smiled, it was him. “Come in”she said as she admired herself in the jacket
The door opened and quickly closed behind them and when she turned around, she paused in shock.

"I just need to say a few things"he said to her. "You performed great out there and congrats on your Grammy tonight. You deserve it. I just wanted to tell you that in person….cuz you’re still my best friend throughout everything and Im sorry about what happened between us when we last spoke"
"Aubrey you shouldnt be apologizing….we tried, it didnt work, I made my mistakes too. I shouldnt have done what I did with Meek, it meant nothing"

"Yeah but hes moved on"he said. "Friends?"he asked her as he held out his hand
She smiled,”Always”she said as she walked up to him and shook his hand and he pulled her in quickly for a hug. She held him close and inhaled his cologne and then pulled away quickly,”I gotta get back out there. I gotta get dressed”
"You do that. I’ll call you later on in the week"

"About the ‘Take Care’ vid"

"Yeah, Jay and my label gave it the green light. Its gonna be my next single and we are gonna shoot the video soon. He didnt tell you?-"
"Yeah of course he did"Breana lied. She heard nothing from Jay. How dare he make plans for her like he was her manager? "We’ll be in touch"she said and he smiled at her. He blew her a kiss and left out quickly. She sighed. Great, Maurice was going to love hearing this type of news. She was going to be working with one of his biggest rivals. Again.
Between that and telling her parents and even Aubrey himself that she and Maurice were repairing their relationship, she could feel her anxiety rising. Damn it, she forgot all about Jay, she knew he would be upset but he had to let it go. Her personal life wasnt going to affect her career. She was one of the most successful on his label. She’ll just remind him of that he tried it. But she still felt anxious…
And someone else’s anxiety matched hers, as Maurice made his way down the hallway to Breana’s dressing room, he stopped short when he saw Drake leaving it….

It was a great night, she took away 2 Grammy’s and Maurice had 1. J Cole didnt win Best New Artist but he felt honored to just be nominated. “Wait til my next album come out. Ima rack up this shit”Jermaine said as he put his arm around Naureen
Jake rolled his eyes as he saw the two leave with Breana. Did those two have to flaunt themselves all over town? And why did he have to be the one to see it each and every time? Mijo felt the same way when he saw Jasmeen and Trey but he kept his distance. He ended up leaving and going to the party Kae was hosting, only because Stormi was there. He soon convinced her to leave and go back to his place like he wanted though.
Maurice was pissed when he saw Drake leaving Bree’s dressing room. This shit again? What did they need to talk about? When was she going to tell him? Who else did she have sneaking in and out of her dressing room? Bree texted him saying that she was going to Georgio Baldi’s for dinner and then to Greystone for the after party and if he wanted to join. To be honest, he couldnt face her right now.

Once the doors were closed, she decided to call him. This wasnt a good conversation to have via text. “You know the answer to that”she said when he picked up
"I dont. Why is he still hanging around?"
"We just got the green light on the Take Care vid. We’re gonna be shooting it soon"
"When were you going to tell me?"
"I literally just found out about it. Jay went behind my back and signed off on it"

Breana gasped as she turned to him. She forgot that he was in the car. Blake, Genn, Jasmeen and Trey were used to overhearing these conversations. She turned in her seat to face him. “Look By….when you get older and fall in love, you’ll understand-“
"You aint gotta explain yourself. I know. I mean hes an asshole and shit but I know at the end of the day, hes the one you want. Just be careful"Jr said
"Watch your mouth"she said to him, surprised that he had such a mature approach about this. He was only 15, how did he grow up so fast?

Genn smiled, that was all she needed to know. They partied hard for the rest of the night and the next day, she and the girls worked together to pull off their next task. Breana was a little down about her and Maurice’s spat. They talked that morning via Skype and he assured her that he was fine. He didnt like that she was working with Drake but he’d just have to accept it. It was music to her ears but she was still sick of fighting over it. She then logged off and went with Jas to meet with Matthew about River Island. They were there for a couple of hours and Breana was starving when they left.

"Cool, we are supposedly meeting the fam at this new restaurant"Jas said as she read her texts and gave Jake the address
"What new restaurant?"Breana asked. Though she ate there the night before, she was craving Georgio Baldi’s again.
"I dont know. Genn texted me the address"
"I hope the food is good"Breana said as they drove to the restaurant. "Jas? Do you think its selfish of me to work with Aubrey again, knowing how Maurice feels about him?"
"Do you think its selfish of him to be working with that girl, of all people, to start his clothing line, knowing how you feel about her?"Jasmeen asked her
"I dont think its selfish. I think its stupid"Breana said with a shake of her head. "I mean the girl has no experience as far as I know….he was better off hiring you. Remember when you two used to joke about making a clothing line together?"
Jasmeen nodded and laughed,”Yeah but I refused to do it if we had to use that dumbass name”

"Breezy Girl Clothing"Jasmeen said and they both laughed. She remembered it like it was yesterday. She and Bree thought the name was corny and Mijo and Maurice would defend it to the death. Those were the days. It made her miss Mijo but he was still ignoring her and since Trey was around, she couldnt get away to see him.
"Oh God! I remember that. Corny ass name"Breana said. She sighed and then said,"So Im not selfish?"
"No. If Maurice believes that he and KarmasABitch’s clothing line will be successful, then let him do that because who are you to stand in his way? He has to give you the same respect too. Take Care has potential to be a number one song, he would be the selfish one standing in the way of that"
"But it could be number one without a video"
"True, it could be. But the more promo the better and whats the best way to promote music?"
"Doing a video or touring"
"And would you rather be on a video set for a couple days for the video or on tour with Drake for a couple months?"Jasmeen asked her and Breana nodded. When Drake went on tour with Breana last summer, Maurice went crazy. He almost beat Drake’s ass when they ran into each other at SummerFest.
"I’d rather just do a video, for Aubrey’s sake"
"Aubrey can take care of himself. Maurice just needs to trust you"Jasmeen said and Breana nodded, knowing she was right. They pulled up to the restaurant and Jasmeen smiled as she sent a few texts. "Ready?"
"This food better be good girl"Breana said as they all got out the car and Jake escorted them both in. They were taken upstairs to the top floor and when the door was opened, they were in darkness for a second, then all the lights came on, revealing a bar and a full restaurant. A huge group of people jumped up and said ‘SURPRISE!!!’ Breana squealed in surprise as she hugged Jasmeen close,"You did this?"
"We all did. Me, Genn, Lee and Naureen. You’re going to be in the UK the whole week of your actual birthday so we figured we should throw you an American one before you leave"Jasmeen said as Genn, Lee and Naureen ran up and hugged her
"I love you guys so much"she said as she hugged them.
The party was great. All of her favorite Caribbean foods were made by her mother and Georgio Baldi even catered. Her favorite cupcake shop made her the same Barbados inspired cupcakes that she had at her birthday last year. Wow a lot happened in one year. She burst out laughing when she saw her birthday cake, which was Lee’s idea. A small little Breana with red hair laid on top of a white cake shaped like a blunt.
"I fucking hate you"Breana said with a laugh as she hugged Lee
"You love it bitch"Lee said
"Im gonna pretend thats not what I think it is"Moni said to them and the girls blushed. "You two are crazy"she said with a shake of her head
Lee lit the candles on the cake and they all sang Happy Birthday to her. She smiled as they did and when they were done, she closed her eyes and made a wish. She wanted this year to be different. She had all the success in the world and then some. But she wanted love. She wanted true love too. She then took a deep breath and blew out the candles and everyone clapped. She stuck her thumb into the cake and licked the icing off of her finger as someone took a picture.
"What did you wish for?"Genn asked her
"You know, the usual"Bree said and frowned when she noticed someone signing a document on her iPad and passing it back to her. "Whats that for?"
"Just a release for everyone to sign telling them to not share what goes on at this party"
"You didnt have to do that. I dont care-"
"If you want that wish to come true, you might wanna trust me on this"Genn said and winked at her
"What are you talking about?"Breana asked. However, a few people’s attention turned to the door and a lot of started to talk and get excited. "Who’s here?"she asked. She made her way through the crowd as peoples camera phones went off and paused in shock when she saw who came in.

"What the hell is he doing here?"Moni asked in shock as she looked at Breana’s father
