Game Recap

The #2 team in Class A came to visit the Hawks on Friday night at Hawks arena. Grand Rapids Christian came into the game undefeated on the season and leading the OK Gold conference. The Eagles feature two committed DI players and also a couple more juniors that will likely be DI players after their senior year next season. The Hawks were looking for their first conference win in the OK Gold. A tall task to say the least but the Hawks were going to give it all they had to compete against the mighty Eagles on a cold February evening.

The Hawks started out strong and played one of their better quarters of the season in the first quarter of the game in front of a large and supportive crowd. With 1:06 remaining in the period the Eagles only lead 16-14. The quarter ended with the Hawks down 19-14. In the 2nd period the Eagles pushed their lead to 41-25 on the strength of some hot shooting and a fast break attack that makes them so dangerous. Their up tempo style of play allowed them to push the ball and get many easy run out baskets.

The 3rd quarter also belonged to the Eagles as they outscored the Hawks 24 -6 to give GRC a 65-31 lead after three quarters of play. The Hawks shot a dismal 2/12=17% for the quarter while the Eagles were 10/14=71% including 4 3-pointers from long range. The 4th quarter played out about the same as the outcome of the game had been decided much earlier. The final ended 77-39 in the Eagles favor.

The Hawks were lead in scoring by senior Drew Bond with 13 points. Senior Grant Trisch added 9 points as well. The Eagles were lead by junior Duane Washington with 24 points and junior Setric Milner with 16 points. Thad Shymanski chipped in 14 points along the way.

The Hawks record now drops to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in the tough OK Gold conference. The schedule continues to be challenging as FHE next heads back out on the road to face South Christian on Tuesday and then Wyoming on Friday night. The Hawks will look to compete at a high level and grab a road win next week.
