Is immunoglobulin A a hoax?

According to Felt, it is. Or rather, not like they put it. And besides, hypothetically, I haven’t had…

All I got from that was that I’m supposed to sleep with as many partners as possible to expose myself to new pathogens to build up my tolerance.   Well, if science says so….

Yeah STDs would definitely boost the need for the body to produce IgA.

……

"Cervicovaginal HIV-1-neutralizing immunoglobulin A detected among HIV-1-exposed seronegative female partners in HIV-1-discordant couples"

We’re going to pretend I read all of that, and I’m just going to go back to editing now…

Whoa, I go have dinner and people start talking science.

That paper just says that female sex workers who’ve been exposed to HIV, but who don’t carry HIV, are five times more likely to have IgA for HIV. In other words, they developed immunity. They’re special unicorns who have the ability to develop immunity to HIV. The researchers found them because they realized there was this population of sex workers who didn’t turn up as HIV+ when they should have, and they wanted to study them to figure out why. (Answer: immune systems made with glitter.)

btw, the original (questionable) study said those who had a lot of sex actually had lower IgA levels than those who had a moderate amount. They couldn’t say why, though.

The plague mutation most likely but I did mention on the tags I was fake sciencing ;) I grabbed it because it was on the sex workers, free full text and I was teasing AP ;)

I’m just going to stick with Emergen-C and stay celibate for the rest of my life. Thanks for ruining sex for me!!!

(But that IS an interesting paper…)
