2014-06-02

Shew what a long week last week was. We got back from our trip to Texas late Sunday and spent the evening relaxing with friends who had traveled down to see us. Monday we had a scrumptious Gulf Shrimp boil for lunch and my Louisiana Red Beans and Rice for dinner. That was the last day I really got to relax until Saturday.

Tuesday was the beginning of  the Lil Rebel’s Cheer Camp. Five days of 100′s of girls grades pre-K to 6 grade learning cheers and dance routines with the high school cheerleaders. Y’all there is no chaos quite like that many girls running around screaming, cheering and giggling. I felt so bad for the cheerleaders on the first day, they had a doe in the headlights kind of look.  I think they may have been a bet terrified of all the little ones.

We wrapped up the week with a perfomance from all the Lil Rebel’s for the parents on Friday night, a sleepover for Kyla Friday with a new friend from cheer camp,  a rained out swim party on Saturday and sleep over for Hayley that night.

I’m ready for this week, hopefully it’ll be a lot slower. I need a chance to stop and breath. Mamma’s with sport/cheer/dance kids, how do you do it?

I’m hooking up this week with Diary of a Stay at Home Mom and her Happy Homemaker Monday posts.

 Scripture of the Month:

Psalm 32:7

You are a hiding place for me: you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.

Focus of the Month:

I just finished reading  7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker and wow. It made me realize how much I am filling my day with things instead of with God. For crying out loud I can’t go to the bathroom without checking into some game on the iPhone, Instagram, Facebook and so forth. Realizing the first thing I go to in the morning or the middle of the night is social media and not God made me decide to overhaul my priorities.  I’ve let my self slip so far from God’s company that I’m sure he’s sick and tired of staring at blank walls and talking to himself.

My focus is two fold this month.

I am relearning to hide in my Heavenly Father instead of social media and games. My focus should always be Him first. This means daily reading, prayer and quite time with God.

The other part of my focus is letting go of my fear of not being good enough to measure up to Christ. Granted I’m human and I’ll never be perfect like Christ was but as Christians we are called, you can even say commanded, to lead a life like Christ. I’ve currently reading The Impossible Mentor:: Finding Courage To Follow Jesus by Ray Hollenback and it’s changing my views on not being good enough. Look for a review later this month!

Thinking About:

How much I love the peace of mornings in my home before the chaos of each day starts. Reflecting on Titus 2:11-12, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.

God’s grace does more than redeem us, it should also teach us to be more like Christ.  Now that’s some food for thought.
Around the House:

The dog is spazzing out ready for her walk. The girls are still sleeping and Mike is fighting going back to sleep or getting up for work.  The dishwasher needs to be emptied, laundry started and the extra mattress brought  back up to the attic.
