Protection and Nature Conservation

The star element of this country is its natural exuberance, displayed in a myriad of unusual locations. In fact, its greatest value is its beautiful woods and tropical forests which, despite their grandeur, have always been cared for and protected with a view to their total conservation. Therefore, its 17 national parks and seven biological reserves are the great treasures of Costa Rica, contributing to the country being known as the “greenest” in the world, as well as offering residents and visitors an unparalleled visual attraction. The truth is that environmental sustainability is one of the most important issues in Costa Rica.

The Monteverde Biological Reserve, Tortuguero National Park and Poas Volcano National Park are areas of unparalleled beauty, where all kinds of species live. The Corcovado National Park and Isla del Caño Biological Reserve are another of its highest standards of conservation programs – the places with the greatest biological diversity on the planet. In its surroundings, you will find Kura Design Villas, located in Bahía Ballena, a relaxing hotel complex where you can isolate yourself from the world, recover energy and explore the unknown territories of the country. To the north, in the San Carlos region, you will find the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel & Hacienda, a place to stay in the midst of jungle fantasies, located in a biological protection area.

Impressive Flora & Fauna

The natural components of Costa Rica are some of the most important on the planet, despite the face that it’s a small country (50,000 km2). The 58 microclimates that it has are responsible for this, nourishing local animals and plants, which are responsible for 5% of the life forms of the planet. There, playing among the branches of more than 2000 species of trees, 10% of the butterflies that exist in the world and more than 800 types of birds coexist in the sky, among them the colorful and extravagant hummingbirds, macaws, toucans and quetzales. Mantas, sharks, humpback whales (also known as singing whales) and a myriad of tropical fish share life in the Costa Rican rivers and seas, leaving the surface for over a thousand types of orchid and 200 types of amphibians and mammals, as varied as jaguars, monkeys, armadillos, sloths, quatis, among many other wonderful species.

Breathtaking Beaches

The Costa Rican coastline allows for two dazzling areas of relaxation with its white sandy beaches and crystal clear water and the option of a wide variety of activities for marine wildlife lovers. Indeed loved-up newlyweds will be spoilt for choice with the mixture of marine adventures and the long walks through the Costa Rican paradise. There are also the fabulous beaches that spread through the zone of the Pacific and beaches that open out to the wonders of the ocean, offering a coral reef paradise and a real “wave park” on the waves for surfing lovers. The Peninsula of Nicoya (Guacanaste), in particular, is specialized in welcoming and enriching all the tourists who stay in any of its complexes. Esterillos, Jacó, Hermosa and Boca Barranca are the great destinations for surfers, although the more experienced ones opt for the Marino Ballena National Park and the Golfito sector, where you can find some of the longest waves in the world.

At the other end of the country, just 3 hours by car and 45 minutes by plane, await the idyllic beaches bathed by the Caribbean Sea – one of the forbidden fruits of the planet tasted only by privileged. The coral reef that is part of the Cahuita National Park is the piece of heaven that all lovers of underwater art are looking for; very rich in biodiversity, with bright and striking colors.

Volcanoes

Although most are inactive, Costa Rica is the main link of the Pacific Ring of Fire, thanks to its 100 volcanoes, 10 of which are still active. This impressive volcanic activity, which brings us back to the fantastic stories of dragons, adds yet another ecosystem to the environmental variety and provides many atypical adventures that the bride and groom can discover on their honeymoon. Poás, Irazú, Rincón de la Vieja, Turrialba and Arenal are the best known, the latter being one of the most visited igneous jewels in the country. The Spring Resorts Spa is just a half-hour’s drive from the National Park which houses the resort. The hotel is located next to one of the most intoxicating tropical forests in the world, full of mystique and secrets. In the Arenal lagoon, the Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort, a luxury complex known for its thermal waters and the cooing of the forest surrounding it.

Adventure & Culture

A honeymoon is synonymous with relaxation. São José, its capital, is a good example to enjoy pleasant, urban and cultural tourism. However, unparalleled places like Costa Rica deserve the extra effort necessary to take full advantage of everything on offer. Indeed, the concept of adventure should be the most explored in the whole country, through activities that release adrenaline such as rafting, windsurfing, diving, kayaking, sport fishing and surfing.

Another one of the attractive aspects of Costa Rica is its warm and hospitable population. Of Hispanic origin, it is currently the result of miscegenation, and the appearance of ethnic-national groups and colonies of immigrants constitute great value within the national territory. The most important ones are Afro-descendants, although you can also find communities of Chinese, Hebrew, Lebanese and Italian people. However, in addition to this privileged multiculturalism and its stunning natural landscape, democratic experience and the absence of an army (it was abolished in 1948) established peace and harmony throughout the country. All these aspects allow Costa Rica to hold first place in the Happy Planet Index, determined by the New Economics Foundation, a British environmental nongovernmental organization, to qualify which countries are the happiest in the world, in a list containing about 140 countries.
