Couples these days are looking for ways to bend the rules and discover alternative wedding ideas to long-standing traditions. One of those traditions couples are looking to recreate is the wedding guest book – where guests sign their name on each line or write a message in the book to the bride and groom.

Don’t get us wrong; we love a guestbook full of encouraging messages. But it’s sometimes nice to mix it up a little and find a creative alternative that will serve as an interesting keepsake and perhaps something that couples can easily integrate into their new home. We have compiled a few alternative wedding guest book ideas (ok, 20!) that are sure to inspire all of you savvy – and unique – brides!

Themed guest book ideas are the perfect way to remember the details of your wedding. Have guests sign something related to the theme, colors, season or location of the wedding. Or perhaps use something sentimental as your guest book – like this guitar guests signed at a wedding for a music-loving couple. If you are planning a destination wedding, the ideas are endless!

Clever wedding guestbook ideas like these shown will leave your guests smiling as they admire your originality. One couple coordinated a guest book with each table number and asked guests to write a message for them to open on that anniversary year. These alternatives are completely out-of-the box but very practical. They will leave you saying, “Why didn’t I think of this?” Martha Stewart also has some unique guest book options worth a look!

Fun wedding guest book ideas add a light-hearted touch to your wedding. Guests will feel like they are a part of the wedding fun and couples can look back on the memories with laughter. For a simple idea, have guests create a fill-in-the-blank advice sheet. For a messier option, have guests put “leaves” on a finger print tree. Guests can sign Jenga game pieces, puzzle pieces or even corks! Find another creative way to include your guests in your wedding!

If you are a DIY bride, what better project is there than assembling your own guest book, either before or after the guests sign it?
