Three of Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus’ top students presented academic research papers at a special presentation on Wednesday, April 10. Troy Hellen, Kelsey Conn, and Ronald Simon are competing to win the campus’ top Scholastic Excellence Award. All three students will receive monetary awards for their work.
Hellen of Jefferson, Pa. presented “Selection and Installation of a Quad Drive Belt Conveyor”; Connellsville resident Conn discussed “Female Serial Killers: A Rare Phenomenon”; and Simon, of Massillon, Ohio, shared his thoughts on “The Missing Link: The Memristor.”
The Scholastic Excellence Award winner will be determined by a combination of scores from the oral presentations and scores from the students’ 10-page papers.
To be eligible for the award, students must have at least 30 credit hours at Penn State Fayette within the past four academic years, hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.67, and have not previously received the award. The winner will be announced at the annual Student Awards Banquet on Friday, April 26.
The panel judging the presentations includes Dr. Russell Filburn, senior instructor of communication arts and sciences; Dr. Elaine Barry, associate professor of human development and family studies; Jes Hutson, instructor in kinesiology; Dr. Janet Knott, instructor in nursing; and Janet Ritenour, instructor in human development and family studies.
